This was someone that played for grade A clubs o . Inter milan, AC milan, AJ Auxere etc as well as playing for the super eagles.
Are his mates not kanu and okocha? Why are those not complaining?

He must have mismanaged his resources or was not informed enough to 'diversify' into biznaze like the okochas and kanus.

He should count himself lucky to reach the height he reached in soccer out of over 200 million Nigerians.
Majority of them got their exposure through Nigeria. Nigeria gave them the platform. Taribo's son can go and play for any nation that he wishes. Many want the chance.

Like players were making good money then. Seems you are judging some of these players with those who play now or those who played in big clubs.
.

It was good money then if you are not greedy. Please take a good luck at the Nigeria World Cup squad of 1994 and 1998.

Why are you hungry and they aren’t?

Many of them became internationally more influential after their careers, emenelo was director of football for Chelsea and is currently the director of the Saudi league. Loosen became a manager in Belgium and other countries, Amokachi, eguavon, keshi, sis sis, amunike all became international managers or assistants, ekoku and ikpeba utilised their skills as pundits, taribomwas busy wearing white garment, I don’t know what Rufai was doing, maybe he was too proud to ask his influential teammates for a job or to point him in the right direction.

If you want to use the argument that the money wasn’t as high as now, you can go through the list and see how many of those players played at the same time with the same low wages.

Where were Rufai and Taribo when their mates were taking coaching badges or looking for punditry or football related work? Taribo decided to form a church. Life is about choices we make.

Your Nigerian team mate was the technical director of Chelsea for 7 years under Abramovich and you are hungry?

I don't understand why we Nigerians like to blame the government for everything. I don't know any country in the world that pays their retired footballers a salary.

Look at the western world as an example—whatever the players made during their careers as footballers is what they will depend on during their retirement.

We should blame these Nigerian veterans for the hardship most of them are facing right now because some of them made good money during their careers as football players, but they squandered it on immaterial things, like the way Amokachi bought a private jet.

I will never advise my son to play for this country— Ex-Super Eagles Defender, Taribo West says as he Laments Neglect of Late Peter Rufai, Slams NFF and Lagos State at Funeral

Former Super Eagles defender, Taribo West, could not hold back his emotions on Friday as he spoke to journalists at the funeral of ex-Nigeria goalkeeper, Peter Rufai.

The ex-Inter Milan star, visibly shaken, expressed deep grief over the treatment meted out to Rufai after retirement, describing it as a sh@meful reflection of how Nigeria handles its football heroes.

“I share the p@ins and burdens with the Rufai family,” West said. “It is dishe@rtening that Lagos State and the Nigerian Football Federation dropped the buck on them.

This is not how a nation should treat those who gave everything on the field.”

Struggling to keep his emotions in check, West recounted how the news of Rufai’s de@th hit him harder than the loss of his own parents.

“When my mother passed, I didn’t shed tears. When my father d+ed in my hands, I didn’t cry.

But when Rufai d+ed, I had goosebumps and tears rolled down my cheeks. What kind of nation treats its heroes like this?”

The former defender accused football authorities of neglect, pointing to similar cases of late Nigerian stars Stephen Keshi, Rashidi Yekini, and Thompson Oliha, all of whom, he said, were abandoned in their final years.

“Imagine a family crying and begging among themselves just to raise money to bury a national hero.

That is m@dness,” West fumed. “With this kind of example, I would never advise my son to play for this country. Do we even have a football federation in this Nigeria?”

Taribo West ended his remarks by urging authorities to wake up to their responsibilities in honoring and supporting retired players who s@crificed for the country.

They will soon insult him for saying the truth just like Kemi in Britain.
They will tell you how he is demarketing the country and data boys calling him an IPOB agent.

[quote author=franchasng post=136547069]Nothing but the truth my brother, it's disgusting.

These Super Eagles players are too fond of forming abi claiming to be Nigeria's heroes as if they played for Nigeria free of charge angry

Whereas they even lobbied and bribed NFF officials so that their name can be included on Super Eagles squad to give them international exposure.

They misused their opportunities when they were young. Tell me if Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Zidane, etc will expect their countries to take over their responsibilities just because they played in their national football teams.

All these footballers, athletes, actors and entertainers in Nigeria should stop this their foolish entitlement mentality as if they played for Nigeria free of charge, it's really nauseating to hear them complain all the time. They worked for their money, it's a paid and celebrated profession just like Doctors, Nurses, Civil servants, Teachers, Lecturers, etc who worked and got paid for their job as footballers.

Hero my foot.

How did you guys became Nigeria's heroes? /[quote]I dey wonder how Nigeria take owe these people?

From what Taribo said, did he say they were hungry?

Peter Rufai established an NGO helping children achieve their dreams.

What West is saying isn't really about money they way you guys have changed the whole narrative, he's talking about recognition for job done for the country and paying of respect for the day by honoring them during their funeral.

Most of the names you listed, go and check them, some are now into promoting betting sites, gambling, alcohol promotion and the likes.

So it's not about comparing, it's about what the country end up doing for this players as a sign of appreciation at their funerals.

If I'm a cardiologist practicing in government hospital and I fail to plan for my tomorrow, when things happen then I should become a government liability?

Footballers refuse to understand that their career has a short life span. As an entertainment profession they are paid heavily. It behoves them to plan for their future. Sensible ones among them will financial advisors that help them invest.

The majority live bloated lifestyle and forget that a major injury ends the career.

Ok I stand corrected. The sports ministry should have been represented. If that’s his issue. I confess I didn’t watch the video. However there are official protocols for these things. You just don’t bury someone and expect the govt to be there. Sometimes if you want official govt presence and recognition at your funeral, you have to officially notify the govt. don’t just assume that they heard of his death in the news. Former senate president Wayas died and his body was languishing in London for years, he was buried recently and given a befitting commendation service at the senate. But you know what? The senate president said they thought he had been buried all these years because no one from the family notified them of his burial or any difficulties they were having.

When I buried my dad, we were just going to bury him as a family thing, we didn’t know we had to officially inform his former office even though he had retired, he was their former head. They were the ones annoyed with the family for not informing them and We had to make an alteration to the burial schedule to accommodate them and they came with full representation all the way from Abuja to our village in the SW.

govt officials attending a funeral involves many things, they may want to be part of the programme, they may want to hpgive a speech, letter of commendation, possible gift to family, the petrol, the drivers allowance, the out of station allowances for official representatives, all these thing must be requested for and approved officially by someone in the minsyptry. If someone does not make the official request, nothing happens…that’s how govt works. So the question then is did the family give the sports ministry official notice of the funeral? When this story is finished I can guarantee you they didn’t inform the ministry.

If there is one thing I can guarantee about federal govt agencies, no matter how broke, it is sending representatives to funerals of dead high ranking officials from that agency. They don’t play trust me because they all know their own will come and it’s an opportunity for out of station allowances. So long as they are officially informed. Peter Rufai though not a direct ex employee was a national asset, if the family informed them they would have sent a delegation.

How much do they earn then?

All those promises by FG hasn't been given to those heroes.

Was it not last week that the falcons captain said they haven't received any money promised by the FG

Almost those who fought for this country regretted, was it not early this month that the retired soldiers protested again their allowances not been paid for years

Lemme ask you, is this the way the European countries treat their legends

Why is tatibo west angry? He is just been emotional. What he is complaining about has been happening since 1980s and it will still continue to happen . He knew and knows Nigeria doesn't treat her heroes or athletes good especially when they retire . Nduka ugbade broke his leg while playing for Nigeria at Saudi 89, he even played with pains and we did very well ,when he came back ,he went to nfa office for assistance, they only gave him 200 naira taxi fare despite seeing his legs in plaster . So why is tatibo angry. Naija ma zoo ,we all know ,it is all man for himself

I don’t understand the cry about guys who earned millions in foreign currencies playing for clubs abroad, collect match bonuses in $$ to play for Nigeria then waste the money on the fast life and women, some married models and bought private jet they could not maintain at the peak of their careers instead of investing the monies to secure their future.
Then when they go broke at their old age and barely able to cover their medical bill, they and some foolish Nigerians will start blaming the country for abandoning them after their sacrifices
Is their sacrifice to Nigeria greater than soldiers who died or were wounded fighting for the country?
What has Nigeria done for the soldiers or your old poor teachers who taught you in primary school and are being denied their pensions?
You are not fighting the families of soldiers who laid down their lives or became incapacitated defending Nigeria but multimillionaire retired footballers who wasted their fortunes on the fast lane.
