Hhh4444:They have other sources of income bro. The gross will never be N30k in a month from all sources. I have a very tiny company and the lowest of my staff in Nigeria earns over N200k pet month and they have to work from home. If a full adult has to work for N30k, I would suggest a skill upgrade and a switch of career. I once worked in a company in Lagos where I completely forgot my salary. I get about N300k in a week from the side from Ago tanker drivers. Omo, life was sweet in those days. There was a time in Lagos I forgot my salary for almost a year. In a week, we made like 400k from ago and tanker drivers and I was always walking around with cash. Why would a full grown adult rely on 30 or 70k per month to survive? |

Nnamdipapa:Life in Nigeria doesn't revolve around you. Go out there in the streets and hear people's story.some private school teachers earn 30k or less monthly. You seem to be out of touch with the reality on ground. |

Nnamdipapa:The egg only needs to be refrigerated because it was washed. Not because it’s inorganic. Organic eggs will still need to be refrigerated if they are washed. And the eggs in Nigeria are not organic. I bought eggs last month in Nigeria. The yolks were all pale like they’re malnourished. I’m sure farmers are having to cut back on quality feed due to hardship. Don’t get me started on the cost of things in Nigeria. I was paying California level prices for basic commodities (not luxury) |

Nnamdipapa:The ban isn't an arbitrary one. It's, of course, the effect of two highly developed regions embracing two vitally diverse approaches to food safety and animal welfare. The US and Canada you mentioned, their model is to wash the egg to sanitise the outside and refrigerate it relentlessly to keep bacteria from growing, whereas the EU model is to vaccinate the hen, keep the farm ultra-clean, and preserve the egg's natural defence system so it doesn't need washing or constant refrigeration. From my academic experience of political economy, US/Canada/EU systems are so different and built on opposing principles that they are incompatible for trade. The EU's regulations require imported products to meet their specific standards, which US and Canadian eggs generally do not. |

BodyCount:I know lots of people earning Naira in Nigeria who makes more than lots of people in the US and Canada. Some even bought houses here and are not politicians. Do not make the mistake of assuming everyone is suffering in Nigeria. |

ekitimanalways:Eggs and milk from the US are restricted in Europe mainly because of differences in food safety laws, farming practices, and consumer protection standards between the US and the EU. 1. Use of Hormones in Milk Production Many US dairy farmers use rBGH (recombinant bovine growth hormone) to boost milk production. The EU banned rBGH in 1999 because of animal welfare concerns (it increases udder infections) and unresolved questions about long-term health effects on humans. As a result, milk produced with rBGH is not allowed in Europe. 2. Food Safety Standards for Eggs In the US, it is common to wash and chemically treat eggs (with chlorine or similar disinfectants) to kill bacteria like salmonella. In the EU, this practice is banned. Instead, regulations focus on preventing contamination in the production process itself, such as strict hygiene at farms and vaccination of hens. Because US eggs are washed/treated differently, they do not meet EU requirements. 3. Different Rules on Antibiotics and Pesticides The EU applies the precautionary principle: if a substance is not proven safe, it is restricted or banned. The US tends to allow more substances unless they are proven unsafe. This leads to conflicts over residues of antibiotics, pesticides, and feed additives in milk and eggs. 4. Trade and Labeling Rules The EU has strict labeling laws and requires traceability from farm to table. Some US products don’t meet those labeling or traceability standards, so they can’t be sold in the EU. |

Brendaniel:Good question. First, I must point out I never regretted leaving Nigeria. My only regret is staying away from Nigeria for too long. I should have been back like five years ago and, I would never discourage anyone from traveling out, my only concern is staying away for too long and abandoning Nigeria. I have learnt a lot my time here on how to survive anywhere in the world, I have a good career here and I think this is the best time for me. I am not saying there are no chances of failure in my plan but if that happens, I would simply hop on a plane and leave again. My job is never affected anywhere in the world and I will make more money in Nigeria than anywhere abroad. I want to take advantage of cheap labour and our population of over 200m. |

Reference:My friend, I am going to rear my own birds and make my own eggs. All my life even in Nigeria, I never planned with or thought of minimum wage as a benchmark for my wellbeing to be frank. I consider myself production oriented and will look to explore farming in a medium scale in the near future. Things like vegetables, peppers, tomatoes, will be planted by me with little efforts and I will raise birds as well for eggs. I know it may not be as easy as it sounds but I will try my best to survive and thrive even if Nigeriais in a full scale war. This is what I have always done. |
