The purpose of this post is to seek help on how to navigate this tpain era. It's been quite difficult for me since this new government took over power. 400k was my monthly budget for a family of 7, and we were living just fine, but right now 1.2m isn't even enough for a month. HOW CAN I CUT COSTS? I would have loved to give rough estimates on how i expended my monthly budget so that anyone willing to contribute can give advice on my shortcomings, but i wouldn't want to bore you with my list. Going forward, how can I cut costs because Sincerely, I'm so tired, and i can't save anything at the end of the month. I'm not living a luxurious life, no vacation, no eating out, no dorime, just a normal basic life. The system seems to be keeping us poor. After working for years to have a better life, boom devaluation will occur , and inflation follows, which in turn cut down our purchasing power and keep us lamenting. I'm so frustrated and exhausted. Mods kindly push this to the front page for more views |

Family of 7? It's alright. Tinubu is doing well to curtail some excesses. At least those that haven't entered the trap will learn. |

Make this be a lesson to each and every one Nigerian. Economic problems affect everyone, whether or not they voted bad government. |

Dear OP, you didn't tell us what makes up the 7. Is it a dual income household? You need to give depth to be given good advice. |

It’s a huge problem, almost everyone has cut down on luxuries and have resigned to spending almost all their income on food and transportation. With the new tax bill in the offing, I’m genuinely scared. |

Don't fret. Everyone is facing the inflation even the wealthy. Cut party, unnecessary outing, drinks with friends, unnecessary cooking or eating out, children habits for fun(cost incurred), snacking etc should be curtailed etc. Buying of fuel and driving can also be fine tuned to using public transport when driving is not necessary. If you buy band A power, then reduce your use of electricity by regulating use of appliances in the house to only energy saving freezer for cooling. fridge, microwave, washing machine etc must be regulated. ( Extreme but it's what it is) Lastly 1 million today is equivalent of 300k of 2017. So forget the illusion you are a millionaire with 1 million. You can't even buy a decent new freezer and TV with that amount again. |

Antivenom:I look at my lifestyles but nothing luxurious in it. I don't drink alcohol, not womanizing ,no clubbing, no eating out,no vacation for the past 15 years, just a basic lifestyles. I do bulk purchases to cut costs, things are just so expensive and naira has lost so much value, band A takes about 125k monthly, car fuel 30k per week., this economy is just so depressing |

Caaz:35k for a family of 5 in a Month? Biko break it down how you use the 35k. If you are a salary earners, it's either You are stealing company items to sell or doing runs at work? Or asking for bribe to process request in the course of doing ur job to augument ur salary. |

We don't know where you live or the standard of living you had when things were good. Someone who lives in Ikoyi has a different standard of living compared to someone who lives in Ogudu, and the cost of living in Ikoyi is also different from that in Dutse GRA. Where do you live? Does your wife work? What do you do for a living? Do you pay rent or own your property? What assets do you have? What is the age range of the 500 children that you have? Why did you go on to have 500 children in the first place? Were you not alive when Buhari destroyed the Nigerian economy between 2015 - 2019? So, why have 500 children then blaming an innocent Tinubu? Tinubu sef does not have 500 children, nor his son Seyi. |

gerizzim:Nairaland is a market place. When you read such a post, automatically assume that you both don't share the same standard of living, and that is very much okay. |

Gerrard59: ![]() They are fond of blaming the current government or economy on their woes. Useless people. You will see them claim they have what it takes to take care of their kids when warning them. Some will say mind your business, they didn't come to beg you for money to train them. The truth is, when you look deeper to their claim of being able to take care of their families, you will see it is just so called Basic life - eat basic food, pay average school fees and that is all. You will think these set of people can even give above average life to their kids and themselves for claiming to have what it takes for breeding like rabbits - eat balance diet (emphasis on BALANCED and not just eating to survive), good schools (emphasis on Good and not just basic), then we go into extracurricular activities like swimming, boxing/taekwando, music class, going to cinemas for movies, occasional outings and vacations, even health/education/life insurance for principal and beneficiaries. You will think most of these idiots breeding like rabbits have all these but NO, majority don't yet they boast of how they have what it takes to take care of a large family. |
| Re: Nigeria Inflation Is Draining Me Oooo.i Need Help by Gerrard59(m): 12:57pm On Aug 23, 2025 |
emmaodet:To be fair though, basic living is common with most people. Most humans are average, including in the abroad. Nothing too exceptional. Even if na well known public schools, it is still okay. My focus on having fewer children is because of the costs involved as they become older. In the olden days, children were assets, but today, they are costs. Also, I am more concerned with my standard of living. Just because I have children does not mean my own standard of living should drop. I had a life before children, and must maintain (with room for increment) that standard after having children. |
