Stolen Vehicle From Toronto Found In Ghana, Owner Speaks (Photos/Video) by Glimpsetv(op): 11:04am On Aug 23, 2025
This is the shocking moment a car stolen from Toronto, Canada, was traced and found in Ghana, West Africa. A man who introduced himself as David Common, an investigative journalist with CBC News, put a call through to one Green Leonard—the original owner of one of the stolen vehicles—after finding a paper inside the car that contained Leonard’s details.

He later requested permission to FaceTime him, and during their conversation, Leonard explained how his car had disappeared since last year.

In his words, he said, “It was stolen September/October last year.”

When asked what happened, he explained: “So we were going out that day in the morning. My wife went out to get the car, and it wasn't in the driveway. When we checked the camera, the video from the ring doorbell—about three in the morning—you see a car and two guys pull up towards the driveway. And about four minutes later, the light goes off. They're gone. The car is gone from the driveway.”

“That is the second car stolen in six years from my driveway,” he added.

Watch the shocking video and share your thoughts in the comments.

Summary:

A car stolen from Toronto, Canada, was shockingly discovered in Ghana. CBC journalist David Common traced the vehicle and contacted its original owner, Green Leonard, who revealed it had vanished from his driveway in late 2023. Security footage showed two men stealing the car around 3 a.m., marking the second time Leonard’s car had been stolen in six years.

The dummies actually left the original owner's documents in the car!
I mean, how careless can you be!

*Modified
On second thought maybe it wasn't carelessness (nobody can be that careless), maybe they used it to transport the car, being sure the owner had NOT reported it stolen at that point (because he was in on it!)

I don't know how best to digest this your comment.

In any case or context, crime does not pay.

Why is it people always repeat popular aphorisms, no matter how false. If not for crime will Tinubu be president today? If not for coup crime would Buhari have served two terms as president? And IBB, OBJ, Abacha, Rawlings, Gowon, etc. Crime clearly paid them.
Even in this case, the original person(s) who stole and sold the car will probably never be found, assuming even the CBC reports it to the police

Perhaps there are gangs stealing cars and shipping them to west Africa countries.
The Canadia police needs to do their homework and bust those criminal syndicates

Toronto Police are very useless. They dont care to retrieve those cars at the port before being shipped out of Canada.

So one can go to Berger in Lagos, buy a vehicle, and then be arrested a few months later for buying stolen goods.

That's very concerning.

Even if you bought innocently and have receipts, and even take the police to the place you bought it from, that won't stop Nigerian police from making your life hell.

They may even parade you to the world as "part of a gang of people who buy stolen imported vehicles', and people on social media, including Nairaland, will demand that the person be jailed. Some will even demand the person be jailed for life huh

And so, in one fell swoop, the person's reputation and life is destroyed.

Our parents who pray every morning that ako ba, ada ba, olorun ma je ka ri, know why that prayer is important o.

Toronto Police and Canadian Customs or Border control definitely need to upskill their training on car theft detection at the ports of exit.

If I buy a car in Nigeria as foreign used, you won't come all the way from Canada to claim a car I paid for legally. I don't have any business with you. I didn't steal the car; it was bought and fully paid for.

Maybe they have already prepared the Shipment Documents before stealing the car.

I hope it's a luxury car cos if it's anything else the cost of shipping it back to Canada will probably be more than the value of the car undecided

The question I have always asked is how these cars easily leave North American ports and find their way to West Africa and after all that, the blame eventually falls on the local car dealers who may not even know the cars were stolen from Canada or the USA.

This security lapse at the foreign ports need to be addressed above every other thing.

That's theoretically. In practice Nigerian Police will parade you and throw you in jail until u give them huge money, knowing all the while you had nothing to do with stealing the car!

You're clearly ignorant of the law! Don't repeat what you just said in any police station or court of law....you'll go to jail

You better thank me for this free legal advice, because on a norm, you'll have paid for it
