For those already on this, kindly indicate your location so others willing to patronize same can have an idea where this is currently active. Besides the fact that the available locations aren't up to date on the MTN platform, it also helps to reduce comments solely asking for locations.

Awka is listed since last year.
FibereX is available in major Estates in Awka. Ngozika, Merlyland, Udoka etc.
They are also available in most parts of Amawbia too.
They are currently now in Onitsha.
GRA and Trans Nkisi Federal Housing.

Mtn is taking the fight to StarLink and I am loving it.

Check the link on their website to confirm this.
Just search Mtn FibereX on Google and select your state.
It will load and show you Awka and Onitsha.
Select Awka to show you the multiple streets currently available.

The best way to know if your location is live, and I have mentioned this before, is to fill out the FibreX form on their website .. I would have posted a link to the form here but I am sure nairaland spam bot will not allow me.

Click on 'Get FibreX' and fill out the form.

You will be contacted

MTN has had a Fibre broadband service for quite a while now but is now quickly expanding its coverage. I looked into it at the start of the year, and was happy to see them finally begin rollout in my estate months ago.

Here's a rundown of all you need to know about the service.

This post is not sponsored and is just my own personal experience.

1. Installation begins in my area around April 2025. Poles are installed, with the Fibre device mounted on poles.

2. After access point installation, I reach out to MTN customer service about joining the program. Also even go to the nearest MTN office to inquire. They are unhelpful and provide no information on when the service will become active in my locale.

3. I see them installing the poles around the area in May and take the contact of a salesman. We keep in touch and he promises to let me know when service begins.

4. In early June he tells me service has begun. I verify from a friend at the MTN office. I pay for it in late June. 25k. NIMC servers go down nationwide. All forms of registrations are put on hold as a result and I'm unable to have a profile created. Not MTN's fault.

5. NIMC servers are fixed in late July. On July 30th I receive my FN ID. The very next morning, Thursday July 31st, I get a call for installation. Installation is done but installation is done wrongly and the inept technician lacks the tools to troubleshoot.

6. Monday August 4 I receive a call from MTN for activation. But activation cannot be done because installation was done incorrectly. Issue is escalated. On Tuesday morning I'm visited by four MTN engineers who come to troubleshoot. They figure out what the issue is and team lead asks the installer to come and fix it.

7. Wednesday afternoon my installation is fixed. I call for activation and by ~7pm the service is active.

Why do I outline the events? To give an idea of how MTN's customer service is. I was impressed. The only big issues I faced were:

- NIMC servers
- Bad installation initially (MTN does not provide their own installers, and this is actually outsourced)

Now for the important details.

1. MTN's FibreX is a fiber connection. A cable goes from the access point on a pole in your street, into your house. That, of course, means it's susceptible to more infrastructural issues. Poles may fall due to wind or anything, and access points may fail like all electronics eventually do. On the flip side, it's also a more stable service since it's not directly tied to signal reception I believe.

2. Installation is free. I only paid 25k for the 50mbps plan.

3. Availability is currently limited. As at the time of posting this on August 8 2025, MTN's FibreX is only available in 14 states. Abuja, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Kaduna, Kwara, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, and Rivers. They are currently expanding, though. Two months ago it was only available in six states. It's also only available in select areas in these states. Typically the most high-brow areas where they're likely to have the most customers for a service like this.

4. You can confirm availability in your area using the MTN app. Just open FibreX, select new customer and plan you want, and all available locations are listed. It's not always up to date, though. My street hasn't been listed yet, for example.

5. There are currently five plans, defined by bandwidth.

20mbps - 15k monthly
50mbps - 25k monthly
100mbps - 50k monthly
150mbps - 60k monthly
300mbps - 100k monthly

And on to more technical information.

1. My Fibre X router is a ZTE F670L. It's not a particularly great router by most accounts, but that can be expected considering the fact that it's free. It also gets the job done.

2. The ZTE F670L lacks any sort of battery or backup power. And runs off a 12v 1A power supply. Ideally you need a steady power supply, or a power bank with a 12v output. Thankfully I have one from an older MTN router I bought. You can theoretically also buy a USB to 12v barrel connector cable and use with a regular power bank, assuming the power bank supports 12v output anyway.

3. The router interface is solid. Has all the necessary features including security controls, firewall and DNS settings with filters and the rest. There is no data usage page, however, but that's not really necessary seeing as FibreX is unlimited. Regrettably, my router does not pair with any of the ZTElink apps. I'm not sure if that's down to the router itself or modifications by MTN. Either way, you're stuck with just the standard web interface.

And on to speed
.

I'm on the 50mbps plan and Ookla's speed tests generally always give a dl of 47-55mbps, and ul of ~25mbps. Ergo, just as advertised. Idle ping is typically under 30ms.

I've not had my speeds drop at all, even in peak usage periods around 5-9pm. I should point out, though, that I'm probably one of the few people on the service in my area at the moment. Not sure if that's a factor.

So far I've been able to stream ~8GB 4K movie files off my RD service without any buffering. I'm happy with it. It's a significant upgrade on Airtel's 30k monthly 20mbps unlimited plan which I was using prior. Speed tests usually start off with dl speeds of up to ~150mbps before dropping to 50mbps as capped by my plan, so I believe anything up to the 60k for 150mbps plan should be fine. I'm not sure it can deliver 300mbps, though.

As for range, I've had no issues anywhere in my reasonably large apartment even on the 5GHz network.

Pictures attached below.
How many days after installation was it activated? Mine has been 4 days and it hasn't been activated. I've really been disappointed with them, took over one month after payment to install, now 4 days no service yet.

The guy that installed mine told me it would be activated in 24 hours ...

One hour later I was activated 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

4 days is too much... contact their customer service about the activation.. or call the agent that did the installation, he may have forgotten to give MTN feedback.

@HeavenlyBang, your pings are too high for a fibre. Contact them to work on it. It's not normal.

Definitely can't cover an entire building of flats. You're better off just doing the 15k for 20mbps plan if budget is an issue.
Hello, good afternoon. I checked their website but it had nothing on the 15k plan, is it only available after initial 25k payment?

I tried to get more information from them on twitter and email but the email they gave me is yet to respond?

Not really.
This ping is too high for fiber service sir.

Most fiber pings are between 2-10ms on the average.

What you posted above is even obtainable with StarLink.

Acting like ping is a flat value, instead of something that's in part determined by your location and distance to servers. I'm connecting to MTN's Lagos servers on the Ookla test, so naturally my ping will be higher.

Yeah, presumably the 25k plan is the minimum gateway subscription.

Fiber Internet will beat satellite Internet like StarLink all day.
The issues with fiber networks are the downtimes mostly as a result of the destruction of the infrastructures and the availability in the remote areas.
These are the places that StarLink has upper hands but it terms of speed and ping fiber always carry the day.

That has always been my worry with Fibre. The frequent disruptions as a result of infrastructural damages. Sometimes, it takes time for the provider to mobilize for rectification. That could leave you with no Internet for days or weeks.

I have been using Starlink for 2 and a half years now, and the only time I experience partial outage is during rainfall and like 3 times we have had global outages, which only lasted 1 to 2hours.

Fibre is the best but the disruptions makes it unattractive, especially in this country where response from service providers is poor.

Go for it
Currently using it for months now and it's amazing.
Data speed is very good. I stream like king.
I don't sub my dstv anymore.
Before now I spend a lot for data for my family but now, just my 25k, no dstv cos I stream all matches crystall clear in HD, watch all TV channels. Just sub small data for my phone whenever I go out

Yeah, it has always been available, it just never shows up on my device. Same thing when I am connected to MTN 5G broadband. Although it shows up on my brother's Pixel device.

So it is a Samsung issue. The 5gHz Wi-Fi never showed up on my device, until today when I noticed it.

Maybe it was a setting I modified on my phone unknowingly, or it may have been the last OneUI update I installed 🤔

Will check if I am also able to connect to 5gHz Wi-Fi on the MTN 5G broadband

Hello, are you in Abuja? If yes, please can you share the contact of the guys that did the installation?

Seems like the customer care don't have information about the availability in my area.
