Goke7:You don't know me. So don't hide under calling me a kid. Let's stick to the fact. 20k in 2008 was about 300% of the minimum wage then. If we extrapolate it to today, that should be around 210k for the 70k minimum wage. Now I'm asking you how many people are earning 210k today as farm manager in Nigeria. Besides as at the exchange rate of N85 to a dollar then, 20k you're earning will be $235. As at today, 210k which is the direct equivalent in wage terms is $140. So are you richer or poorer than the equivalent earner today? Answer that yourself! I won't even go into rent issues. That's a totally dead end. Telecoms and banking are part of the services sector of the economy. Comparing them directly with agriculture which is a sector on its own shows you don't even understand what is being said here. Under Agric, we have livestock, crop, agric processing etc. More importantly, agriculture largely exist in the informal sector of the economy while telecoms and banking are part of the organised private sector which is what I'm referring to. Those two are easily the largest employer of labour in the organised sector. That said, if we're to go to the informal sector, I believe that claim that Agric is the largest employer is outdated. Most Nigerians today are into trading. From petty trading to larger shops and outlets. Trading is the largest employer of labour in today's Nigeria not agriculture |

OneCandleAway:I saw it already. When I saw the amount he mentioned, I worried because at that time I easily earned over 2000% more than of that. And we are talking some twenty years ago. Therefore my heart tugged at what he was saying: there was suffering in there. I didnt feel it was right to make assumptions the way you did. Anyway, for a short time, I will be watching you. |

Goke7:You sef look at what you're quoting. So you mean from 1999 to 2025, more federal universitieshave been founded than before? 36 universities have been formed by FG since 1999? You really think so? |

Kukutente23:20k in 2008 was still nothing and could not keep anyone for a month my boy. |

DeepSight:I have not said it is big money. But it had far better value and purchasing power than 210k today. That's a fact!! |
| Re: From $4.99b To $43.17b: How Did OBJ Achieve This? by DeepSight(m): 10:04am On Aug 24, 2025 |
Kukutente23:Lets try and do a comparison of what 20k could buy then and what 210k can buy now. |
| Re: From $4.99b To $43.17b: How Did OBJ Achieve This? by Kukutente23: 10:08am On Aug 24, 2025 |
DeepSight:What nonsense. So you're going to go that route too? At N70 per litre, 20k will get you 285l of petrol At N900 per litre 210k will give you 233l of petrol What next? |
| Re: From $4.99b To $43.17b: How Did OBJ Achieve This? by DeepSight(m): 10:12am On Aug 24, 2025 |
Kukutente23:Well thats close enough and frankly I wasnt particularly looking at the disaster of the last two years alone. PS: You need to learn respect. I am still coaching you my boy. Lets look at it this way: how far could 20k take anyone in a month in 2008. How far can 210k take anyone in a month today. Limit your considerations to a poor person focused on basic needs such as food. Also, put the minimum wage thing out of your mind. Its nonsense. |

Goke7:Go and take the same bank job now and see if u can be better off. All i see is either u are unemployed or doing menial jobs... I could remember sales girls then on 10k to 15k salary could buy bag of rice then today those things we saw as nothing is now far from reach |

CodeTemplarr:Whats a defended naira? Are they not defending the naira event till today? Are they not injecting funds? Why didn't they leave it when they said they will allow ot to float. As u can see the naira started coming down from 1850 now 1400 to 1500 |

| Re: From $4.99b To $43.17b: How Did OBJ Achieve This? by Goke7: 1:21pm On Aug 24, 2025 |
Kukutente23:Agric is still the largest employer of labour and largest gdp contributor in Nigeria so get your facts right or research on it. There are no large or small shopping outlets in many towns and villages in Nigeria abeg fear God! And your extrapolation and you know it does not verify in any terms that earning 20k in 2008 in Nigeria means I was well off than those even earning 200k today again fear God. I know the agenda you’re trying to pull but it can’t work. Oya tell me how much you were earning in 2007 or 2008 if truly you’re working then! |
| Re: From $4.99b To $43.17b: How Did OBJ Achieve This? by Goke7: 1:27pm On Aug 24, 2025 |
Kukutente23:Do your research please, before the military came in 1966, are you saying the govt then did not establish universities? Again from 1979 to 1983, we had civilian govt and you think these folks never established universities or polytechnics. It’s obvious so many of you think there was never democracy before the military so I get where all these military did blablabla is coming from. |
| Re: From $4.99b To $43.17b: How Did OBJ Achieve This? by Goke7: 1:43pm On Aug 24, 2025 |
004gist:😂 really? so sales girls will just carry their entire salary to buy bag of rice, no transport no other expenses. And you call my job or the sales girls menial job? 😂 something I was doing five days a week, even sales girls worked full time way back anyway left the job for my masters and my friend who took over and still confirmed to me just yesterday was earning 25k monthly 5k increase from where I stopped. The other workers on the farm were even earning 9k. Even all the so called bank jobs I know so many who still lost those jobs due to the hammer from sanusi on banks like intercontinental and oceanic, then and so many of them till today are yet to recover. |

Kukutente23:It’s not frivolous but you trying to avoid the major essentials. You can’t use one single commodity to accurately extrapolate the standard of living and it’s not done anywhere in the world. That’s how some folks will say Ghana economy is better off but when someone come up with an experiment to show what the same amount of money will afford in terms of groceries in both countries Una go run cos it doesn’t suit the agenda 😂 |

Goke7:I already told you you're using outdated stats. The services sector which banking and telecoms is a part of is the largest contributor to Nigeria's GDP. That of agric is old story. It's obvious you don't travel a lot. If you do, you'll know that trading employs the largest number of Nigerians not agriculture. People are now engaged in groceries shops and buying and selling even up to Mallam's from the north. Almost every corner and street has shops in Nigeria today. I was not a worker in 2008. I was a university student. I've shown you and the other guy with facts that someone earning 20k was better off than someone earning 210k today. Even electricity bill alone in today's Nigeria is totally crazy. You mentioned rent. How much was a single room in 2008 in Lagos compared to today?

| Re: From $4.99b To $43.17b: How Did OBJ Achieve This? by Kukutente23: 3:43pm On Aug 24, 2025 |
Goke7:Only 4 universities were created by the civilian govt from 1960 to 1966. However the military from 1975 to 1980 created 6 and another 3 from 1985-1990. Shagari govt also created 4. So you can see from above that the military created more FG universities because even those 4 created by shagari were already planned by the military govt of Murtala Mohammed |

Goke7:Petrol is the single biggest driver of cost inflation in Nigeria as we have seen from fuel subsidy removal. So petrol goes a long way to determine cost of living. That dude is just being ignorant. You're the one pursuing agenda here by looking to delegitimise OBJ to cover up the inadequacies of your tin god |
| Re: From $4.99b To $43.17b: How Did OBJ Achieve This? by 004gist(op): 4:09pm On Aug 24, 2025 |
Goke7:Just look at what u are typing. In 2010 just 2010. 10k can buy a bag of rice. A sales girl earning 15k or 10k can get it. Stop supporting this failure |
| Re: From $4.99b To $43.17b: How Did OBJ Achieve This? by Goke7: 4:21pm On Aug 24, 2025 |
Kukutente23:You obviously was not working then so you can never ascertain that 20k was better off bruv but just to extrapolate and there’s no way 20k despite with fuel subsidy then will afford accommodation and other basics in 2008. Anyone saying that is not realistic |
| Re: From $4.99b To $43.17b: How Did OBJ Achieve This? by Goke7: 4:23pm On Aug 24, 2025 |
004gist:Who will use all his or earnings to buy a bag of rice? The minimum wage today 70k or 80k can buy also buy a bag of rice but who’s going to do that |
| Re: From $4.99b To $43.17b: How Did OBJ Achieve This? by Goke7: 4:25pm On Aug 24, 2025 |
Kukutente23:No dude you have to factor other essentials of living which you did in your earlier post! That’s how you truly calculate cost of living. 20k couldn’t afford any descent living even 20 years ago |
| Re: From $4.99b To $43.17b: How Did OBJ Achieve This? by Kukutente23: 4:33pm On Aug 24, 2025 |
Goke7:As I was not working, I was not living abi. Oga shift. I've shown you with facts that 20k then was better than 210k now and I still stand by it. As a university student then, I buy fish 3 for N100 to make soup then. That same fish goes for about 4000 today. Even transport was how much then? N50 to and fro school. I lived off campus |
| Re: From $4.99b To $43.17b: How Did OBJ Achieve This? by Kukutente23: 4:38pm On Aug 24, 2025 |
Goke7:20k cant afford decent living then just as 210k can't now Meanwhile, have you reached out to the fish farm to find out how much the manager is earning now? I can bet it's not anywhere near 200k sef |
| Re: From $4.99b To $43.17b: How Did OBJ Achieve This? by Goke7: 4:48pm On Aug 24, 2025 |
Kukutente23:😂 omo I no know o my friend was even asking me if the farm is still there. We can only hope that lower income earners in Nigeria will one day breathe cos it’s not funny Meanwhile I concede to you that services sector is now the largest gdp contributor thanks to the entertainment sector and others like real estate so you’re so right on that one. Thanks for the interactions, cheers! |
