Hello Nairalanders,

I’ll be relocating to Lagos soon, with my office based in Ikeja, and I’m currently exploring good areas to live. I’d really appreciate your suggestions on neighborhoods within or around Ikeja that are:

Safe and family-friendly

Have good network coverage and stable electricity

Allow easy movement to and from Ikeja without too much traffic stress


House rent rates (for a standard bungalow or duplex in such areas)

Good schools nearby and what their average fees look like


If you live in Lagos or have useful recommendations, please share your thoughts—I’d be very grateful for any advice.

Maryland with their high Rents.
Op consider Ogba, Agege, Iyana Ipaja, berger, their rents are considerable and they are close to Ikeja. Berger and Ogba electricity is considerable too, I don't know for Agege Iyana Ipaja in terms of electricity.

It depends on your budget. The axis of Ikeja you work in also matters.

Ogudu (if you can afford it), Ikosi-Ketu, and maybe Anthony/Mende area.

Allen Avenue is your best destination

Ikosi side of ketu.

I once lived there when I was working in ikeja.

They have good schools in the environment too.

Opebi, Awuse estate is your best bet. 10 mins drive to Ikeja. The cheaper option is Oregun....the industrial estate side. They have a few gated streets there and electricity is superb.

Op said she needs a standard bungalow or duplex. Realistically, she needs #10m upwards per annum to get such in Ogudu.

Your best bet is to download the Jiji app from apple/play store. Under "apartments for rent", select the state (Lagos), choose the area (Ogudu), number of rooms, condition of the building (old or new house), etc. You will find realistic up-to-date, vacant apartments with their prices, pictures, and agents' contacts.

Oh, don’t give up oo. You can get something very nice in other locations within your budget. Lagos is a small city. You can get to Ikeja from most locations on the mainland in about an hour or less.

Ogba, Olaniyi, Abule Egba, Ogudu, Ojota, Ojodu/Berger, etc., to Ikeja are all less than 30–40 minutes. Commute time is basically the same, so you don’t have to limit yourself to a particular area.
