I don't know if taribo was being overly dramatic or entitled.
Entitled.

Just like most famous persons out there -actors, musicians, etc.

They act like whatever it is they do is more valuable to humanity than the researchers and medical personnel out there saving lives. undecided

I understand your point but logically, Nigeria of those days of little or no investment ideas, unknown tomorrow ,etc. They can slightly be exonerated. That's y we still have old actors, retired civil servants, etc in the society still struggling. In next 5-10years, u will see most people will be independent. Nigeria was once like a forest, zoo, primitive but today, it's developing and learning. Do u know that England pays it's old players some stipends till date? Life is learning everyday
Nice points.

If they can't have business sense or what you stated then they should invest in building of houses for tenancy purposes. Can they buy land and build mini estates. Most of them live very flamboyant life and think they will continue like that. Omokachi bought chopper around 90s and he became brook cos he didn't envisage of a knee injury that will later terminate his career. If not for NFF and later buhari who appointed him special advicer, na sorry case he matter for be. He now live a modest life. Imagine he went to Abuja and buy some lands in high brow area then and develop them with block of flats. He can afford to buy land in Asokoro back then and build a mini estate.
Amokachi was never that broke. Besides, the aircraft was more of an investment.
The guy coached several Nigerian clubs, did some gigs for super sports too.

That's a lie, even though it wasn't as huge as it is it is now,but it was huge to give you and your family luxury life till the end if you manage it well. I remember when we were small during those times when complete football Magazine was our Internet for everything football, the wages then were as mind blowing as it is now. If you lay your hands on those wealth then and got broke later in life na you do yourself, nobody should gaslight Nigeria for not taking care of anybody even their colleagues in Europe are not been taken care of by their country at old age
Again read my original post
Going back to when rufai played unless you invested in real estate or stocks or you were maradona, platini or a superstar you were payed a pittance compared to today
Oh and you might want to check where dodo mayana played compared to west, ikpeba and kanu.
Nobody is gaslighting anybody
Bobby moore,England's only world cup winning captain went through this exact same thing and his family reacted the same way
You detest Apcheat ?
💯
But taribo was just dropping facts

In as much as i am an advocate of financial literacy and building good legacy.

He spoilt everything with the "Jailing Part" what is jail connection with financial illiteracy or squandering your personal income.

I don't know if taribo was being overly dramatic or entitled. But these people have no business depending on aid to organize their funeral after demise because they should have lived at least a decent and comfortable life with what they were exposed to. They are people without half the opportunities these guys had that are doing well... even if not rich but comfortable.

Imagine if I have just 10% of the fame, popularity, exposure (not even talking of the amounts he received during his career for now o) someone like rufia has/had then still solicit funds for my funeral.

I agree not only should I be jailed, but I should be sho. T dead again after dying.

Like I said maybe na taribo just dey over play the matter for his own reasons.

Everything falls back to planning and going easy on the extravagant lifestyle. (Rufia has never struck me as extravagant though) saving something decent especially when you know and understand the kind of country and football FA you have.

Why can you depend on them?
you can never say from a distance that he was extravagant or not. Most of the players lived a very expensive live , clubbing, night parties, wasteful spending quietly for the ones that are not loud.Another angle is families and people around them milked them down because they couldn't know when to say *no* and some of them wanted to do investment and get scammed big money because of irrational thought and reasoning because ordinarily people who is exposed to such fortunes should never be poor ever again but those above reasons were responsible for their mistakes.

What Peter Obi is doing is not giving back to the society, he is only campaigning. Giving back to society is charity, you are not doing it for gain. A politician who stole from a State, is going about sharing that meagre amount of money, hoping to gain votes in the next election is not giving back to the society.
You buttressed my point.

Nothing so serious Bro. The JAIL part is just a figure of speech for more indepth expression. Not really referring to that in the real sense.

That part about jail is on the chochocho side
Exactly.
Can we say it is true?

Maybe Brown Ideye forgot that he was lucky with his own life. Many players, far better than him, did not make it to the top. Many joined local clubs and could not be favored to get foreign clubs. Local clubs pay very poor salaries and have always paid very poor salaries. By the way, is the football federation in touch with the reality of poor salaries paid by Nigerian clubs. How can the players save for the future with such poor salaries?

When Brown Ideye talked about football players, he should have differentiated between players in the foreign leagues and players in the local leagues.

Again in the days of Rufai or before him, players in foreign countries did not earn as well as current players earn. Osimhen for example earns close to 300k or more weekly. Rufai invested in properties. His sickness took the toll on his finances and he was not in anyway a broke man. Infact even in Idimu where he comes from, he must also enjoy certain benefits as a member of the royal family. He could have been the Oba of Idimu if not for football, whic was his passion. Unfortunately a new Oba was crowned in Idimu on the same day that Rufai was buried. The Oba was reigned in his stead was buried.
Very sad.

He is making some points. The problem is the entitlement that most of them have as if they weren't paid doing their playing days.

If they should be pampered, then all retired civil servants should be taken care of too.
Not having good money management skills is a general problem in the country. It cuts accross footballers and the rest. Most people have this problem. Money management skill is a course that should be taught right from secondary school through to the university. If you are able to make just one million naira in your life, with very good money management skills, you should not be poor again in your life.

99% of Nigerians including politicians and salary earners have 0% financial literacy. This is why they don't know what to do with a windfall and resort to borrowing immediately after a windfall. The desire to live larger than life is one resounding reason for their financial recklessness. The 1% that have financial literacy can be found amongst the illiterate market traders
90% of Nigerian salary earners can't take care of their needs talk less of investing. Checkout the salary range of the Nigerian workers, only 10% of them can burst of a good wages in comparison with the level of inflation in the country. Commot them for your analysis.

Go to AMCON for explanation.

I have no time for argument.
If its about his hotel and the alleged debt, its not directly linked to any bank. Has amcon won the case yet cos its still in court. Even if they do, he will be fine cos he's got great investments all around. Worst case he'd forfeit one of them and still be ok, unlike his mates struggling for survival. While they were driving porch cars all over Europe and buying private jet, he drove only prado and busy investing. The difference is clear today

Ideye is 100% correct.

You can't waste all your money balling when you were an active footballer and expect me to raise funds for you when you go broke later in life. I dislike people with entitlement mentality.....E nor get who nor like flexing.

The money these footballers earn weekly most civil servants won't have up to that amount in their accounts for a whole year.

You can't compare Diego jota's situation, not similar man. Jota's situation is unplanned sudden ending. Moreover, the family are not crying for help or labelling their country or club authority in a bad light. Jota situation is a compassionate driven, individuals, clubs are willing to give to support the family left behind. We have not even heard gift announcement from Portugal his country
How is it different, infact Rufai had a greater impact than Jota, yet the NFF failed to recognize that

Is Former President Buhari family also not wealthy enough to bury their father, so why did the government took everything upon themselves

There are stuffs that are not justifiable

Footballers/ other sportsmen should always be more grateful to the country rather than the country grateful to them. Without the country's platform that showcase them to the world, who or which club will know them? During their prime time, they enjoy the best of hotels, women, allowances etc at the expense of the government. Why the likes of Odegbamis, Amsiemekas of the older generation, and the Kanus, Mikel Obis, Olisehs, Ahmed Musas of the younger generations not crying for breakfasts from government?
It is even irresponsible on the part of government to be wasting huge public fund as gifts for them, National honours and token is enough as appreciation for them.

I hope that the aggrieved people about the $100,000 of the Falcons can relate.

It was a paid off job/contract. They can't (shouldn't) expect the government to continue to monitor their lives either they are broke or successful

I repeat, the debt isn't linked to polaris. When you see a tribalist, you can spot one. I'm yoruba. I have confirmed from a reliable source and top manager at polaris the moment I saw your post before responding to you. Read details of the court judgement and when amcon stepped. He's not indebted to polaris.

Kanu didn't lead flamboyanly unlike his peers. In 1995 when going to Ibadan,on the expressway I saw rashidi yekini inside an expensive benz jeep, black colour. He was stuck in the then mowe traffic. How did he end? What of the head master adepoju? Amokachi, etc? Okocha can't even brag of Kanu's investments. He's surviving through advert today. The ighalo and taiye taiwo that i mentioned , are they also ibo? Tribalism is the worst disease of man
