I doubt Boniface and his friend Osimehn can emulate the frugality credited to Okocha in his playing days and even now that he's retired.

Boniface and his friend seem to be about the social media life , gifting their "fans" at random, paying influencers and sponsoring trips of their influencer friends to stay relevant in the social media space, etc. Whether the aggregate of these social spendings will have a significant impact on their purse in the long run; only time will tell.
Osimhen has plenty room to flex. He is on ten times Boniface salary. Osimhen cannot return to trenches at all plus he is said to be quite "stingy"

This thing na lie.

If you fix like €600,000 i.e #1bn after retiring, wetin you wan spend per month and why you go return to trenches?
Trenches abroad is not like trenches in Nigeria.

What will N1bln do for you abroad

All those Sunday Oliseh, Babayaro etc are in trenches abroad as we speak

If Boniface career quench after his current Leverkusen contract he will have an upper middle class lifestyle abroad..If he does footballer expenses on that same earnings he will end up in abroad trenches like Oliseh them. He can never return to Nigerian trenches like Babangida, Oruma, Rufa and Yekini them

Exactly, if dem decide investigate the spending habits of a lot of us average earners, you'd see it's not so different from these footballers, in that as our earnings grew, so too did our expenses.

Confirm stingy guys like Okocha and Kante are the exception and not the norm, and I mean within the general population, not just footballers.
You are missing an important point here though; the earning cycle of the regular average individual is quite different from that of athletes.

A regular average professional in other fields apart from sports can have regular income from the moment they hit adulthood to let's say age 60 when they decide to retire. An average footballer on the other hand may have to retire by age 38 which means he has roughly 22 years (from age 16) to make all the money he will spend till old age.

If a retired footballer keeps up with the lifestyle he was living in his playing days after he has retired, he may end up broke while the non-sports retiree may still have enough income to sustain his own lifestyle before death comes calling.

I'm guessing Airmark expects he'd retire to Nigeria after his playing days, cause 1BN no plenty like that.

More like 12 solid earning years...it's a tough position that can turn bad if not well managed.

If he was so frugal, I wonder why he's had to resort to advertising for betting companies. He made his money from hard work and making use of his talents, but is promoting a destructive act like betting to the youths just for the monetary gains.

You almost have to get everything right not to go broke.
I was talking one day with 2 retired people and I just casually dropped the "Life is short try enjoy am" both of them replied that "life is not short o, especially when you stopped earning in retirement you will realize life is long"

Players like Amokachi Amunike Oruma Okocha have stopped earning in their main career for almost 20yrs and they still have another 30yrs to live before they die

As a banker at 40 you can misinvest be broke and still recoup before you retire.
I see this example abroad frequently people who liquidate their assets invest in Africa by 5 to 10yrs everything don finish, they come back at 50 and start modestly and still live a fairly average life

Retirement and not earning money is a brutal life. You can try your best to plan for it but many curve balls dey road

Na black tax dey sustain many parents and Naija retirees

If Boniface's post-tax earnings is still hovering around 17K per week, e mean say the guy neva really touch money for the football thing at all.

The guy is a solid player and while I don't know to what extent his shenanigans online has affected his prospects, it's probabaly time he buckled up and faced his career squarely, if not for anything, for perceptions. A failed medical for a pro already at his level is a bad look.

Failed medical in a certain club,no mean say career is on the line, diff club with their criteria...Loic Remy and Nabil fekir failed medical at Liverpool but still got a move to Chelsea and real Betis where they still played for more years.....

That's like #80m monthly, meanwhile his mates like osimhen earn over #300m monthly.

He has been insulting people advising him to focus on his career, and stop cruising online. He doesn't know they mean well for him.

Why TF are you always online posting nonsense, and jumping on useless trends as a top professional?
The guy still has ghetto mentality. He left the trenches, but the trenches mentality didn't leave him.

If he doesn't change how he carries himself, and continue fooling online, it'll definitely shape how people view him whether he likes it or not, even his teammates, and manager would be wondering "why is this guy so crass, and razz".

You can't portray an unserious persona and expect sane people to take you seriously, only your fellow clowns will cheer you on.

Being frugal has nothing to do with making more money by taking advert/influencing sales for brands that approach him for endorsement na.

If his religious /personal beliefs doesn't prohibit gambling, I don't see any reason why he can't use his brand to advertise for bookies.

We have footballers who advertise for Alcoholic brands and cigarettes which can be argued to be as destructive as gambling. If nobody is having issues with those footballers promoting alcohol and cigarette then why should they have issues with gambling?

I wouldn't put gambling in the same category as cigarettes and alcohol, it's far more destructive in my opinion, I mean even India had to ban gambling. For me, it just shows a desperation / need for money which shouldn't be there if he truly had serious pepper.

Simple sturvs my bro. You have to be extremely stingy, even to yourself, for your lifestyle not to change as your income increases massively.

People like Kante aren't the norm.
Some people think being scared of spending money means you're better than others, and you'll never go broke, lmao.

No be real Madrid players I dey see for sporty bet adverte? Unless that advert is fake and done qithout their notice. Still your arguement is flawed and heavily based on emotions.

Good thing u said it is Ur opinion which makes it highly subjective and not necessarily factual. The number of people who die from alcohol/smoking related illnesses on an annual basis definitely far outnumber those who die from health complications that may arise from losing money to gambling.

Methinks u are mixing morality with a man trying to make more money by leveraging on his influence as a superstar

E no sure like that, Cos all the players in bold too made decent money in their primes and they entered trenches in Nigeria. I know many players wey be say na NFA gig and side hustles dey save them from trenches, Not the money they made in active play days. Those Amunike, Amokachi, Mutiu Eguavoen would be full trenches like Oruma Babangida Yekini is not for NFA help. When you look at Taribo sef, Baba looks like say na trenches he dey

The group below them wey no too make money from football Like Kingsley Obiekwu, Emmanuel Ebiede enter wetin pass trenches in this same Naija. Obiekwu begin do cab driver for Anambra

Even Okocha we say dey prudent still get international gigs and advertising from time to time, he was a more flamboyant player where his dribbles were used as ads and could have been fetching him small side incomes

For Boniface, he has about 50 more yrs to live, with inflation and taxes, how much would be left 20yrs post retirement without that big contract?

Actually it's 140 Million Monthly VS 2.1 Billion Monthly.

We'll agree to disagree. I just don't reckon with him as much any longer cos his actions reek of desperation to make money any which way, didn't even know about the yahaya bello one till today. Anyway, it's his problem.

Really? So a superstar getting paid to advertise for a brand that most likely paid him hundreds of millions means he is not "boxed up"?

Even Ronaldo Lima who was at one point the highest paid player in the world did adverts after retirement.

Truth is while football is purely entertainment, and footballers not much different from the likes of Davido and BasketMouth, but fans don't like to be reminded that it's just another form of entertainment hence equate a serious persona to professionalism.

Boniface carry A1 for fooling matter, and in truth, there's very little upside to most of what he does.

I was at a lounge a few days ago, and the table right next to me had some policemen, two men, and a lady. Guess what they were settling? Infidelity matter lol.
One of the men had slept with the other man’s wife, and the husband actually involved police. The policemen were there trying to settle it inside the lounge. At one point, the husband even tried to fight the guy.

Honestly, I never understand why some men behave like this. If your wife or girlfriend cheats on you, isn’t it obvious she doesn’t rate you at all?

A cousin of mine almost landed in jail because of woman matter. The guy his woman slept with nearly died twice in the hospital after my cousin and his guys beat him almost to death. Just because of cheating.
The matter was very serious back then.

See ehn, as long as your woman wasn’t raped, your real issue should be with her, not the other guy. She knew she had a man and still opened the door for another man, yet you’re fighting the man? That’s loser behavior.
Irrespective of how anyone tries to spin it, women are the gatekeepers of sex, no two ways about it.

If I ever catch my wife in bed with another man, my problem will be with her, not him. And even with that, I won’t raise my hand to beat her. She’s already broken the trust, the best move is separation, not violence. What if you kill her? Or what if you go after the man and things go sideways, you kill him or he kills you? Why risk your whole life over someone cheating on you?

No amount of love should ever make you fight or arrest somebody because they slept with your woman, unless she was raped.
I applaud your cousin for that resounding beat. If you decide to sleep with married woman anything you receive na you Sabi. Nobody send you message.
