Don’t worry Sir. Nigeria we will rise, and there will be statues of you and other patriots who led us to that era.

What are the policies?
Check Nigeria economy before and after.

Check citizens welfare before and after, ( that would be if you old enough to understand it during military, and for the teachers, wen they bought cars most)

Check where he met power generation and where it ended it ( I will advise you to be neutral from useless political lies afterwards)

Check our savings before and after

Check security situation during his time compare to the rest.

Check how he distributed positions across the sections of the nation, compare to the rest.

Check the respect we got from international community compare to any govt in history. You can Google what he did in Sao Tome Principe and in Togo, compare it with how current president barked like toothless bulldog on Niger republic saga. I doubt if Ur age and brain large enough to know all these.

Make sure you do all these with pure mind.

Baba, you have tried jare.
Even Gowon is still hanging around the neighborhood! grin

But please, on the day of Departure, check around the departure lounge very well, if you see that Man that uses One Hand to stop a moving Jet Plane, l mean that "Tinubu Ambassador" that carries Ogogoro in a Golden Flask, just rebook your Flight jejely.
You can always travel the next day.

But if it is that Woman that uses Big Bweast to confuse Pilot you saw, you can proceed with all confidence, knowing that your head will rest well on those two Airbags , even if you encounter severe turbulence during flight.

Either way, l wish you, "Sape-Tee", in Buhari's voice. grin

It's not in my nature to reply agbado miscreants but I have to do this for the interest of nairaland guests and for public enlightenment.
I have been privileged to have access to government houses and important government officials and I can tell you for free that Yar'adua is the best and most honest governor Nigeria have ever produced.
I witnessed Mbadinuju, Ngige and Peter Obi tenure in Anambra and whether you like it or not, PO is the best governor comparable only to Yar'adua.
Believe whatever you want to believe but FYI, I witnessed live the swearing in of OBJ in 1999 at Eagle square. I'm no kid

Basic123:
This your narratives about your saviour Peter OBI has been debunked several times by his successors and the debt management office
I don't know about yaradua Sha
9jatriot:
Yar Adua better than Donald Duke?? I know you did that just to insert another failure Obi into the discussion. Obi is in the same category as Ortom, Bello and Orji.

Yar Adua was no where close to top 15 in his time, he may not have been known to be corrupt but nothing else. Some argue that he was mostly sick during his tenure and may have impacted his performance, but Obi was not sick so no excuse for poor performance. And please this is not about Obi, do not insert him into this discuss.

Obasanjo took over from military regime, after over 2 decades of wasteful military junta in Nigeria. He laid the foundation for democratic system, which APC came and destroyed.
all the problem we are facing today, obj laid the foundation

Name one sector that is having problems n we will trace obj to it.

Power - obj took 16 billon dollars loan for electricity to light up Nigeria but stole it.

Boko haram influx n insecurity- Nigerians gave the government money for national id card b obj with one man from osun state stole the money and dagrin even sang about it

Agriculture - hope u know Obasanjo farms Nigeria OFN used to b called operation feed the nation OFN?
He converted government investment to his personal property.

N many more

Name any other n I will tell u more

Anybody using a telephone today to post on Nairaland and also make calls should know that the father and chief initiator of the Telecoms revolution you enjoy today was President Olusegun Okikiola Obasanjo.

He is the most influential former Nigerian leader alive today.

Some people envy him so much especially in this present administration but his antecedents and unbiased model of headhunting talent seperates him from nepotistic tendencies of this administration.
Re: Obasanjo: I'm Getting Closer To Departure Lounge by 9jatriot(m): 4:02pm On Aug 25, 2025
LOL... The man de really vex you. You are right about elections or rather during his time. Many people do not know or pretend not to know that elections are far far better now, much more difficult to rig which is why we non have vote buying.

But in truth Obj had his good side. He managed inflation very well, he was targeting single digits and also grew our reserves to the highest if not in our history but at least since return to democracy. Then you cannot mention GSM and not mention Obj

Factcheck0001:
y will he pick his successor himself?

What was d role of inec?

Why not make it the battle of the best?

This was the same thing he wanted to do in the last election by supporting obi, OBJ have always wanted to b in control.

It's funny how today he's talking about electoral malpractice, go n read about Maurice iwu n OBJ era

We were in the voting field when results was announced, we never even vote.

Many people don't even have election materials in their area when election results was released.
That's y I look at some kids today n get angry cos they really don't know what this man did but today they are praising him.

This obj man is responsible for all d problem we face today, he introduced everything.

Name one problem we are facing today n I will tell u how obj caused it?

In the history of Nigeria, there is no other past president that has performed better than Obasanjo

I do not know what metrics you use in your own assessment, but if you consider Obi a good governor then I can imagine that your metrics must be very low quality.

With respect to the dead man, he was not close to being among the best governor in his time, not first 15 even.

Obi is best compared with Orji, Bello and Orthom. He was better than Mbadinaju at least no doubt.

2 opportunities to change Nigeria. It’s funny how they have so many good ideas when out of power. But when in power, they are occupied with looting, re-election and power show.

That's right...

I was watching his podcast recently and couldn't help thinking the same.

Unfortunate he might never see Nigeria get better.

He was one of the greatest leaders Nigeria ever had though. I can see how passionately he sometimes speaks about a better Nigeria.

Dude did his best as president but somehow the trajectory of progress after his tenure was diverted by those after him. Instead of building on what progress was made under him

It's unfortunate we now find ourselves in the situation where we presently are in!
That is his fault. Because instead of building strong democratic institutions, he chose to entrench the politics of patronage and electoral fraud.

oga don't try to smuggle your agulu packaged fraud into this, we were old enough when your obi was governor and people cursed him to high heavens.

His performance was so bad in his first tenure that when it was time to campaign for second term he had to go n bring ojukwu that said they should vote obi as his last wish, due to the rigorous stress ojukwu went to he fell ill after the campaign and to add insult upon injury obi still left the party.

Till today Bianca had issues with obi n that was y the apga chairman cursed obi that he will never amount to anything till he returns back to apga.

Kindly tell us what system(s) he put in place as a military and civilian leader?

Is it bribery of Legislators for 3rd term? or the killing of political opponents like Bola Ige? or the removal of seating state governors by minority state legislators? or the wasted $5b for revamp of Refineries that never worked? or the wasted $16b of Power Projects that never changed our power generation level? or the selling of our commonwealths like Ajaokuta Steel, Oshogbo Special Tools, Delta Steel, Eleme Petrochemicals, etc for peanuts? Please tell us his legacy because I can go on and on and on. Is it the attempted murder of Senator Tejuoso so Iyabo (his daughter) could go to senate? or the "do or die" politics that led to the disqualification of political opponents by EFCC a day to election?

The only thing you can talk of was GSM. Even that, there are question marks because the GSM company were allowed to rip us off by "per minute" billing and all other shenanigans.

He is the most amoral leader you can ever think of. He even slept with the wife of his son.

Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo was the worst thing that ever happened to Nigeria both as a Military and Civilian leader. And like one Yoruba comedian said, "O di igba ti Segun (Obasanjo) ba ku ki Nigeria to ni atunse." Literally translated into "Nigeria will not be great until the death of Segun Obasanjo."
Re: Obasanjo: I'm Getting Closer To Departure Lounge by Global2000: 4:13pm On Aug 25, 2025
Obasanjo is a man with enough bolls. Most of his reforms is what we are still enjoying today. He has his lapses. Still he did tremendous efforts in many sectors. Not unlike this mistake.
Re: Obasanjo: I'm Getting Closer To Departure Lounge by johntolu:
Fiscus105:
If Nigeria's successful leaders after him, had followed his policy and programs, Nigeria would have fared better than this.
OBJ was president when UAE was building
Dubai Mall, Dubai Metro, Burj Khalifa.
He had 8 years as civilian president and about 3years as military president. He even lobbied a 3rd term.
He and Atiku built personal farms, universities and other businesses instead and like Obi, 'saved money'.
Imagine your dad saving money when you were supposed to be in school.

Dubai Metro started construction 2006.
Cost: ≈ US $7.6 billion

Burj Khalifa started construction 2004.
Cost: ≈ US $1.5 billion

dubai Mall started construction 2004.
Cost: ≈ US $1.2 billion.

'Before you say maybe money no dey', Obasanjo's government had committed approximately US $16 billion to electricity with nothing to show.
You can guess where the money went
.

It was the same period that they sold PHCN and NITEL.

Democratic institutions were at the strongest during obj's time...

Some of you don't have basic compression. In a class of 10 even if all the students failed one person will still have the best result.

And I'm not saying obj failed... I'm just saying he was the best leader however you looked at it.
