Human rights lawyer and political activist, Deji Adeyanju, has intensified his criticism of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, accusing him of political inconsistency, dishonesty, and attempting to compromise him with money during the buildup to last year’s general election.

Obi Left APGA Despite Sworn Oath.
Adeyanju, in an interview on Channels Television on Friday, described Obi as a “political fraud” who reneged on a public vow never to abandon the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the party under which he first rose to prominence.

“What did I say? That he is a political fraud, parading himself as a messiah. Of course, he is. Didn’t he swear never to leave APGA? Yet he left. That makes him a political fraud,” Adeyanju stated.

He went further to brand Obi a “political prostitute” for what he called his opportunistic cross-carpeting between parties whenever it suited his ambitions.

‘Hobnobbing With Criminal Structures’
Adeyanju accused Obi of contradicting his own rhetoric by now courting alliances with parties and politicians he once condemned.

“Look at him today: the same people he called operators of a ‘structure of criminality’ are the ones he’s now courting. One leg in PDP, another leg in ADC, and still in Labour Party. Confused politician,” the activist said.

Toxicity of the Obidient Movement
The lawyer further alleged that Obi’s supporters, popularly known as Obidients, created an atmosphere of fear and intimidation during the last election cycle.

“Obidient mobs became practically uncontrollable. They threatened Supreme Court and Appeal Court judges, harassed artists, insulted Prof. Wole Soyinka, and attacked almost everybody who criticized Obi. We had never seen that level of toxicity in Nigerian politics before, except perhaps under Buhari,” he said.

‘Let Obi Do His Worst’
Adeyanju stressed that he was not afraid of possible litigation, arguing that the truth is a defence in defamation.

“Everything I said about Obi was true. In a civil or criminal defamation case, truth is a defence. So if he wants to do his worst, let him,” he declared.

Background: Obi’s Political Journey
Peter Obi first entered national politics as a member of APGA and was elected governor of Anambra State. Though initially ousted by Chris Ngige of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obi regained his mandate after a landmark Supreme Court ruling in 2006.

Obi governed Anambra under APGA until 2014, when he defected to the PDP, pledging allegiance to former President Goodluck Jonathan and promising to help strengthen the party in the South-East.

His defection drew criticism at the time, given his earlier vow never to abandon APGA, a party he had described as representing the Igbo political identity.

In May 2022, Obi left the PDP abruptly, complaining about internal party structures, and joined the Labour Party, under which he contested the 2023 presidential election.

He positioned himself as an alternative to Nigeria’s dominant political blocs, portraying the Labour Party as the platform of a “new Nigeria.”

However, since his loss to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Obi has been accused of quietly courting political alliances with both the PDP and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while being a member of the Labour Party.

Here is a serious thread where Obi should either defend himself or use style to withdraw case at court. If he thinks Deji doesnt have evidence, but later have. It might be disgraceful. Somebody or group of people maybe using Deji at background to expose Obi (Don't take my word for it, just an assumption), and if obi mistakenly falls for it; it may impact his reputation and affect his political journey. However, if obi is so bold and knows he has no skeleton in his cupboard, he should go ahead to teach Deji lesson. I don't support tarnishing somebody image just because of pride or arrogance that you can't say simple apology for being wrong

Adeyanju even hates Tinubu. He is a PDP guy. I don't see any reason why Atiku would want to get back at Obi.

What happened was Adeyanju sued Serah on Monday. Serah, Peter Obi's now rumored side chick, called Adeyanju's wife ash××wo. Adeyanju sued and gave Serah a week to retract the comment. Instead, Obi also counter-sued Adeyanju 2 days later.

When Obi's wife was dragged, Obi did not even care until Serah got dragged

Because I dont understand why Obi would stoop low and be dragging with Adeyanju, who thrives on controversies if not for some issues of the heart
