This is very inaccurate.

Nigeria has always had violent crimes like armed robbery. The intensity varies but it has always been there.

Nigeria had military regimes in the 70s, 80s and 90s. Armed robbery and murder were serious problems then and they are still serious problems now. There seems to be an organised effort on social media these days to paint military rule as some kind of social paradise - wheareas nothing could be further from the truth.

Who can forget Lawrence Anini? Or Shina Rambo? Or Ishola Oyenusi? These men ran riot while the military were in power in Nigeria.

Get your facts straight.

I don't know about the 100% seriousness to tackle crime then. Yes Anini and co. were eventually caught and executed but they should never had come up as robbery kingpins in the first place.

And...firearms were not very scarce in those days. There weren't Kalashnikovs on every street corner like we have now but firarms were plentiful in Nigeria from way, way back, particularly locally fabricated ones.

I first saw an armed robbery victim with gunshot wounds in 1986. The military were in power then. From then well into the 1990s, I saw many, many other victims of murder and armed robbery, some with gunshot wounds. The military were still in power then. From the Babangida years to the Abacha years, violent crime has been part and parcel of this country's history. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I don't flaunt my possessions or disclose my profession to others. I reside in a safe and respectable neighborhood. My lifestyle is far from extravagant. I avoid going out late at night or early in the morning, and I steer clear of unfamiliar places with questionable histories. It would be quite a challenge for anyone to consider robbing me, as they wouldn't even know who I am.
