The police command in Anambra has detained a young man and his girlfriend for allegedly staging her kidnap in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s public relations officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Awka.

According to him, the suspects, aged 23 and 24, were arrested after intelligence-led operations revealed that the supposed victim conspired with her boyfriend to stage her own abduction.

“The operatives also recovered N1.2 million being part of the ransom earlier paid by the girl’s family members,” he said.

According to Mr Ikenga, further information reveals that the suspects demanded N15 million ransom, and after negotiation, N3 million was transferred into the victim’s account.

He said that the operation was carried out by police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu.

The command’s spokesman quoted the Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, Ikioye Orutugu, as expressing deep concern over the rising cases of moral decadence in the society.

According to Mr Orutugu, the incident reflects the rising moral decay in society, where young people increasingly resort to criminality for selfish gains.

He urged parents, guardians, and religious leaders to intensify efforts in inculcating discipline, integrity, and sound values in their children and wards.

The CP also warned youths against engaging in self-destructive ventures, stressing that the long arm of the law would always catch up with criminals, no matter how cleverly disguised their schemes might be.

Once the kidnapping was staged, they would have demanded a little amount of money like 4 to 5m. Not 15m.
This people get big eyes.

One thing about Nigerians is that we are too emotional to reason along logical lines, we really don't care about logic but whatever fuels our emotions.

I remember when the inspector general of police made it clear that majority of kidnap cases in Nigeria are staged, some headless mobs came for him n started foaming in the mouth.

The man also said even advance kidnapping cases always involve locals n informants within so in such cases it's hard to stop it.


Imagine the case of a son who kidnapped his father, tell me how can d police stop that?

The father will definitely trust the son no matter what n d son will always know d father's plans so it will b very easy to carry out.

The major problem we have to nip in d bud is d money worship syndrome in Nigeria, people know they can make money overnight and they will have praise singers always defending them so they are willing to do anything.

If a 12 year old boy from a very poor home should buy a 30 million naira car now and u ask of his source of income, there are some people who really don't know how he made d money but they are ready to defend him with words like

Forget somethings you read online. If you move to east, you will have more peace of mind.

If you enter SE, everywhere is densely populated to show you that it's still secured.

You're not far from the truth, I honestly don't know why people are so lazy to work these days. There are literally many skills one can indulge to make a living no matter how little.
Nevertheless, government are not helping matters to be honest. Things are really getting tough for people to withstand but that's not an excuse tho.

I was referring to the one collected by the girl. Sorry on my side for using the plural word. The money was divided and the girl got 1.5. that's if you make 100k a month. It's huge after that what tangible stuff can 1.5m get u.
