The Nigerian seller operating from Nigeria that would normally sell his product(e.g. well tailored bespoke suit or shoe) for say $100 or 150k naira(delivery included) to someone in the US. That same buyer will now need to pay $180. The incentive to buy from a Nigerian in Nigeria is fast eroding.

Now the seller now has 2 coping mechanisms to explore in order to remain competitive
1. Reduce his charge plus shipping to $20. So the buyer can continue to pay $100. Sadly this will amount to him/her running a charity, not a business.
2. Wait until he has multiple orders so he can spread the $80 Trump money on multiple customers. A buyer now has to wait until you the seller have plenty customers to receive his product. Your product is no longer readily available and that buyer is as good as gone.

Nigerian sellers need to diversify their trade away from the USA. As simple as that. Many nations of the world are affected and will retaliate.

No Nigerian trader should operate at a loss or for negligible profit because of duty Trump has imposed that other nations have not similarly copied.

ogi is made from corn. Corn is indigenous to South America.

Ponmo is cow skin there are more cows abroad than in Nigeria. Boli is roasted plantain- another crop indigenous to Americas.

Kulikuli is not a regular food item for most people abroad. It’s in the African store near me but i have never bought it. Moreover most people that buy or ship food items from Nigeria do so in bulk.

Sending goods in bulk can also be by coming together of different sellers. For example, you want to send fish of 10kg, I want to send clothes of 10kg, we can combine with other senders and make 100kg and we ship as one.

It’s not about the product but the processed product, South America has corn doesn’t mean they will have same type of Ogi will produce here. Every locality has their local food.
As common as rice is, the rice in some part abroad doesn’t taste like ours.

Someone said the $80 duty will have no affect on Nigerian businesses selling to consumers in the US. I simply explained that position is not correct. I did not argue any solution, I did not say if Trump did the right or wrong thing, I did not give any solution.

How about finding markets elsewhere. There is Australian, Europe, other parts of America. Again, an average Nigerian shouldn't be bother about it

Not a fight bro and I am not attacking you but that is what you wrote below talking of "coping mechanisms" and options the Nigerian sellers needs to utilise to remain "competitive" and active in the American market.

Both options suggest compromise should be on the side of the Nigerian seller. Why? Is it not Trump and the US that have done wrong with this blatant trade war aggression.

Many nations of the world are mad and looking to get back at the US now acting as if she is a trade enemy to the world because of Trump and his bigotedly pro-USA cabinet.

We should act same as other nation and not be suggesting our business folks trading with USA must compromise, make losses and financially punitive adjustment just to remain in the US market
