anonimi:What is wrong with you? What does this topic have to do with Tinubu let alone Nigeria. Grow up and learn to behave like a normal adult. |

weslay:It is a problem. The Nigerian seller operating from Nigeria that would normally sell his product(e.g. well tailored bespoke suit or shoe) for say $100 or 150k naira(delivery included) to someone in the US. That same buyer will now need to pay $180. The incentive to buy from a Nigerian in Nigeria is fast eroding. Now the seller now has 2 coping mechanisms to explore in order to remain competitive 1. Reduce his charge plus shipping to $20. So the buyer can continue to pay $100. Sadly this will amount to him/her running a charity, not a business. 2. Wait until he has multiple orders so he can spread the $80 Trump money on multiple customers. A buyer now has to wait until you the seller have plenty customers to receive his product. Your product is no longer readily available and that buyer is as good as gone. |

kaludestiny10:This has nothing to do with Tinubu or Nigeria. It relates to the cancellation of the De menimis exemption that allowed goods of value less than $800.00 USD enter the USA without attracting duty payment. It is the part of the lunacy of Trump who has decided to wage a trade war against the world and China in particular. |

tunapawizzy:You still don't get it. This is Trump fighting a protectionist trade war against the world as some of us predicted would happen. Stop seeing this from a Nigerian perspective alone. Nigerian sellers need to diversify their trade away from the USA. As simple as that. Many nations of the world are affected and will retaliate. Nigeria should do same. Stop presenting us as beggars over an act of aggression by the divisive character Americans chose as their President. No Nigerian trader should operate at a loss or for negligible profit because of duty Trump has imposed that other nations have not similarly copied. It is for Nigerians to accept they need to boycott the US market and seek entry into other markets of the world. I am affected and say "up yours" to the USA. They will regret all they are doing which are essentially actions initiating trade wars against others. |

ednut1:You think it’s all products that has alternative? Kulikuli, Ogi, ponmo, boli etc has alternative like ours? The only best approach is for exporter to come together and make a unit instead of selling bitwise |
| Re: NIPOST: Nigerians To Pay $80 Duty For Every Package Sent To US by ednut1(m): 10:34am On Aug 30, 2025 |
Tohsynetita1:ogi is made from corn. Corn is indigenous to South America. Ponmo is cow skin there are more cows abroad than in Nigeria. Boli is roasted plantain- another crop indigenous to Americas. Kulikuli is not a regular food item for most people abroad. It’s in the African store near me but i have never bought it. Moreover most people that buy or ship food items from Nigeria do so in bulk. |
| Re: NIPOST: Nigerians To Pay $80 Duty For Every Package Sent To US by Tohsynetita1(m): 10:36am On Aug 30, 2025 |
tunapawizzy:Sending goods in bulk can also be by coming together of different sellers. For example, you want to send fish of 10kg, I want to send clothes of 10kg, we can combine with other senders and make 100kg and we ship as one. |
| Re: NIPOST: Nigerians To Pay $80 Duty For Every Package Sent To US by Tohsynetita1(m): 10:41am On Aug 30, 2025 |
ednut1:It’s not about the product but the processed product, South America has corn doesn’t mean they will have same type of Ogi will produce here. Every locality has their local food. As common as rice is, the rice in some part abroad doesn’t taste like ours. The best is for senders to send in bulk. |

weslay:Don't say so bro. I once worked in the courier and logistics services sector. You'd be amazed at how many Nigerians send goods abroad (from food items, to prescription drugs, to finished native materials, documents, etc) |

Good tariff policy , the worst thing about Americas these days is that they don’t know how to delay gratification. |
| Re: NIPOST: Nigerians To Pay $80 Duty For Every Package Sent To US by tunapawizzy: 1:15pm On Aug 30, 2025 |
WizardOfNG:Someone said the $80 duty will have no affect on Nigerian businesses selling to consumers in the US. I simply explained that position is not correct. I did not argue any solution, I did not say if Trump did the right or wrong thing, I did not give any solution. How did i present us as beggars. The much i said was that transferring that 80 dols to consumer will eventually make take that market away- did I say that will be the end of the world or that there are no other markets to conquer. |

TallNigerian:Mr Tola, it's American residents that will pay for those items. It doesn't affect me buying products here in Nigeria |

weslay:Oga, and this is the problem....... The American market for those imports, are HOOOOOGE....... 🤣😁😂 The exact reason trump weaponized the tariff system....... Which other countriy would attempt that sort of madness........ 😁 |

tunapawizzy:Not a fight bro and I am not attacking you but that is what you wrote below talking of "coping mechanisms" and options the Nigerian sellers needs to utilise to remain "competitive" and active in the American market. Both options suggest compromise should be on the side of the Nigerian seller. Why? Is it not Trump and the US that have done wrong with this blatant trade war aggression. Many nations of the world are mad and looking to get back at the US now acting as if she is a trade enemy to the world because of Trump and his bigotedly pro-USA cabinet. We should act same as other nation and not be suggesting our business folks trading with USA must compromise, make losses and financially punitive adjustment just to remain in the US market If the USA is boycotted, Trump and his bigots will soon come to their senses. They cannot bully the world like this whereas, as you suggest, it is those who have done no wrong that should be looking to adjust to what is clearly infractions USA is causing to international trade between nations. Believe me when I say, as British Nigerian who voted for UK to remain in the EU, that the biggest regret of the British people in this century is their foolish decision to allow bigoted and older generation of anti-immigrant Brits vote for the nation to exit the EU. Trade is a mess now with the UK and her SME sector being the biggest losers by far. Trump is towing same path. Watch the video below to understand how the UK literally screwed itself with America doing same under Trump. Now the seller now has 2 coping mechanisms to explore in order to remain competitive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWDjctml7H4?si=YEEOmiC0zaxoPN0u |

Lexusgs430:Myopic of Trump IMO. Yes the US market is "HOOOOOGE" but once others find alternatives then the US will be screwed. UK too thought herself bigger than the EU with the self-important belief the EU needed Britain and not the other way round. Today the UK is in tears and looking for ways to quietly re-integrate with the EU. Let's see how it goes sha but what is obvious is that the world is bigger than the US. |

WizardOfNG:What the USA already done with the world market, would take decades to erase/erode ....... Majority of international transactions, are leveraged on the American dollar....... This alone is world dominance....... 🌍😁 |
