I always marvel at how you put them together which is different from how I have seen it done in the west. The carpenter creates a formwork and this is then filled casted with iron, granite, sand and cement.

Thank you for this question, around here we mold these decorative columns on the ground and carefully standit it, then cast them neatly. I have seen that it makes for a nearer work, while using less materials like wood, and saving on carpentry labor.

In this building, there are sections of this decking slab that will be suspended over a long span. And there is additional load that will be placed on it when we start the first floor walls. We have to get it right.

Waterproof nylon is being spread on this decking before the reinforcement mat....................

I used the 20mm rods at places where we have overhanging beams. those beams are very deep at 450mm and also stretching along an area not supported underneath by any walls or pillars.

In other words, they are cantilevered. I also considered the fact that the building is planned in such a way that there will be rooms, bathrooms and gallery planned for the cantilevered sections.

We are just planning for the additional load. I will show more pictures as the work progresses.

The whole beam or the unsupported section of it?

Well, the span is 18.9 metres, the unsupported sections, some are as long as 9 metres to the nearest column position. And for the cantilevered span, about 6.3 metres. And there will be some load on the top, like walls for rooms.

We have started bringing in more stone chippings, sharp sand and other necessary materials needed to cast this concrete decking slab.

Cost of a double load of sharp sand in Enugu is now N90,000

Cost of a heaped load of 10 ton 911 truck from Abakaliki to Enugu is now N240,000
