Hi All.

Want to apply for a passport for my boy. We have a certificate from the village council certifying he is a native and the local government and state where the village is located. It's in certificate template.

But not a certificate from the local government council yet. Don't know whether to go on with the certificate from the village council or wait for the LG certificate from the LG council.

Any advise would be appreciated
Wait for LG govt cert.

You can still go

Just go with all the necessary documents...NIN, state/local government certificate, birth certificate etc

You will be told what to do by the immigration officers, and it will be resolved right there
Thanks for your response. Can I use the birth certificate that was issued by my Local Government of birth?

Should the documents I'm to go with be in colour or black and white?

Is coloured copy compulsory?

Have been waiting since morning of today 26th March 2025 to drop feedback on how my biometric and capturing went. A bit backstory I made my DIY application and completed everything including payment on 24/02/2025. Afterwards I booked my appointment for 05/03/2025. Well I waited up till 04/05/2025 to recieve the approval email and for my application to show vetted or approved but it didn’t came through, so I reached out to my processing office (NIS Headquarters Abuja) via phone call and the agent that picked said I have to wait for the application to be approved before I can come for capturing, I wasn’t satisfied with the response so I reached out to General immigration phone line and they said I can come physical for the vetting. Well regarding the nature of my job and my location I had to wait further till the application gets approved so I can go. I waited for more three weeks and started sending emails to them and calling their phone lines after all that happened on 19/03/2025 I was able to reach my processing office on phone and the agent apologized and asked I come physically to their office and meet with servicom unit and right after the call they responded to my email and apologized for inconveniences.

So finally today 26/03/2025, I finally made it to NIS headquarters in Abuja for my vetting, capturing and biometric. I got there as early as 8:00am. On arrival I got to the venue where various people were seated and I met an officer whom I told I was looking for servicom unit, he directed me but as I was about to leave he asked me why, I explained to him and he said I should go directly to the processing unit that they will go through it first and direct me to servicom if need be. So I joined the seating venue and got my form signed on and given number. I entered the processing venue and people were seated and being attended to. Well I wasn’t satisfied with the information by the immigration officer because I wasn’t ready to waste time waiting so I went to servicom building and the person I met there told me same thing to go to processing unit. I went back and sat and soon an officer came and started collecting our papers then took it back to them. Soon he called my name and told the officer there to direct me to servicom office and we went there (it wasn’t the first office I visited earlier, this unit was inside the processing building). I met the man incharge who took my paper and asked me if there is anyone that helped me with his application I said no and he asked the other lady seated who said yes. He then told us to wait at the waiting room. Not upto 10 mins he came back with the papers and wrote vetted on top of it and said we can go for capturing now. Then immediately I checked my portal it changed from awaiting approval to vetted. I submitted back the papers and after 5 mins they called my name and said the payment has not dropped that I should wait. After like 20 mins an officer approached me and took my form again and took it back to them to check after like 10 mins he came back and said it hasn’t dropped.

Well, people kept on coming and doing their capturing and going. I had some discussions with other people I met and around 12:07pm I had to go and meet the first servicom officer that attended to me, he took me to a man and woman at servicom and told them to check my application which the man did and said my payment has dropped but my schedule date has passed, at this point I tried to explain but the lady collected my form and said I should wait outside for sometimes. Around 12:43pm I had to go again to meet the woman and just as I was about to enter the servicom office she opened the door and gave me my form and said she has written my enrollment number that I can go ahead for my capturing, I thanked her and joined the seats again for capturing.

It got to my turn and the capturing officer asked me for some details to confirm my earlier supplied data after which I captured and did my biometric and he showed me to check the screen to make sure my details are correct I did and he gave me a piece of paper with some details on it which I can use to come back for my passport collection.

General observation at the NIS headquarters Abuja
The staff there are friendly and respects people too
They are punctual and committed to their work
Nobody asked me for money or to pay for anything
Their service is seamless too
The activities at the headquarters is organized and well structured
However more attention are paid to people that have some staff helping them do the registration process.
I did mine on my own and was able to stand up for myself in all the stages to make sure I get captured. My application has also changed to passport in production stage.

So in summary DIY process is seamless if you want to capture in NIS headquarters Abuja, it was a seamless process for me. I will as well update this thread on whenever I collect my passport.

You will use the birth certificate issued by National Population Commission (NPC) for those born from 1993 upward. If you don't have one, you can alternatively provide a Declaration of Age, which is obtained from a Federal or State High Court.

Thanks boss, for coming to my aid.

I was born in 1992, which means I can still use the one issued by the local government of my birth.

Also, is it compulsory for the documents I will take long to be in Colour?

Please can place of birth be issues?

My place of birth is Ikorodu but what's on my NPC birth certificate is Ikeja?

So during the online registration I imputed Ikorodu.
Will it cause issues during capturing?
What I'm asking is will it affect anything during biometric?

It is required that all your personal information are accurate and consistent.
It could be an issue if found.

So, greetings to everyone here. My sincere appreciation goes to Jenifer007 , JaceyOpara , and everyone who contributed to this thread, as it has been constructive.

I will be narrating my experience at the Immigration Office in Ibadan today, so that it can also help those who will be needing this DIY idea and experience soon.

I made my payment (DIY) on 27/08/2025, and my capture was scheduled for today, 03/09/2025, despite having 'Waiting for approval' on my application page. I sent emails and reached out via calls, all to no avail.

So, today, I stepped out to capture and got to the Agodi Immigration Office in Ibadan around a few minutes past 8 in the morning. People were already seated and already reaching out to those who assisted them with the registration.

At 8:50am, an officer came with a bunch of booklets to call out those whose files had been submitted through their respective officer assisting them to process the registration. After calling out the names and marching them towards where they will be captured, I sat there looking like I was the only DIY applicant there. Anyway, I wasn't even expecting my name to be called.

I stood up and walked up to the security guard to ask for the SERVICOM office. I was directed to an office, which I went to, after narrating my ordeal, the officer I met described another SERVICOM office for me... I went there and I met this well-mannered officer who arranged my files, signed them, gave me back, and led me to the next office.

I got to the next office and my booklet was collected, the officer there started asking me some questions to confirm if the application truly belongs to me. Then he signed and asked me to go and sit under the shade.

While sitting, people were already reaching out to those who helped them with their application, while I was patiently sitting, waiting for a miracle from SERVCOM. At around 12:15pm, this officer walked in again and called names. Lo and behold, I was among. He narrated that there was a network issue, which was why we were delayed. So, we sat at the seat provided to us closer to the Capturing office, and by 1:00pm, I was already done with my capturing. Even the birth Certificate and Other documents aside my registartion slip were not requested.

So, after capturing, the man wrote a paper for me, with a number, and I signed it.....While I was about to leave, he held my hands and asked me to tip him. I jokingly told him I am broke pass the lowest earner in this office, and every one of them laughed. I promised him that when I come back for my passport, I will surely prepare something for him, and he said no problem.

That's not all, back to my benefactor, SERVICOM. I went back to the man, I greeted him, and appreciated him. I wasn't with much, so I thanked him with the 2k in my pocket. That was how I did my Registration without paying those outrageous fees being called by those people there.

My first passport application was in Alausa (back in 2021). I recently applied for renewal in Ibadan cos I currently reside in Ibadan.

Take note: Recent threads suggest that Alausa is still a friendly passport center for DIY applicants.

At Alausa, on the day of biometric, Diy applicants are attended to just same way those that do express (through immigration officials) what matters is that your file should be vetted on time (go early in the morning) so you can join those on the queue for capturing. You need be sound minded during the vetting process , questions are going to be asked in random to what you filled on your form, answer correctly,so the servicom officer dont question your Diy process and be ready to appreciate with something (1k will do good).
Your vetted document will be collected at the queue and you and some others (8-10 applicants) would be called upon to proceed to the capturing room.
If you make it there early enough ,your stay shouldn't exceed 1hr and half.

I think most applicants faced similar issue with this place of birth during vettting .
I experienced same during vetting at Servicom when asked of my place of birth , what I filled on my document was different to what i uploaded. The Servicom official that attended to me had to sign on it with a red pen ,my thought was for correction sake , because I told her what was on the file was different to what I filled myself, I was vetted and captured same day.

Then you were not VETTED.
Did you see the requirements there when you did it online.
It states there the exact type of documents required..

Better go to high court and do age declaration or go to your local NPC with your hospital birth certificate and get NPC attestation of birth.

Then go back to immigration with the corrected copy

Hello Boss, I went for capturing today and I was told to pay 50k for my CHANGE of DATA (7yrs date change) can be processed for capturing by Servicom. The lady attending to me said that the 50k she's asking for is for rectification of age and the money will get sent to NIS HQ in Abuja to effect the change on my data
Is this true? Should I go ahead and pay the money?
