With or without state police the governors will achieve anything they want while on the seat of power.
It is only enemies of this country that will counter it that state police will offer no good to lives and property of Nigeria.

They don't want this govt to lay hand on any good thing doing so that their candidates can shine but all they could receive is disappointment and frustration everyday and more disappointments are still coming.

The federal police system to me does not have any fault for now. The solution is, just improve their welfare, training and re- training of officers, well equipped and increase their number; dat's what I think we should be looking at and not create another Avenue for state governments to abuse or hijack the system

Additionally, community and local government vigilante and other military systems should also be considered. If all and grassroots have zero tolerance for banditry, then eliminating it won't be harder

The issue is, we say we want decentralisation yet state governors who are so corrupt and lazy are waiting for FG to start state police for them. Indigenes of states must vote in the right people as governors, these set we have are just political jobbers.

Who will pay state police?
The federal government is still owing salaries,gratuities and pensions of present and retired police officers.
How many states can afford to pay state police?

If you are from South West and you are not in support of State Security, you better think twice.

Northerners bring food and cattle to the region because that's their biggest market.
Easterns bring container into Nigeria from the region because that's their biggest market also.
The region is Nigeria economic power. So criminals (terrorist , banditry, kidnappers, fake products traders and even criminals who are southwesterners) from all regions comes in also. They also share our resources with South West.

With state police we can count them all and in charge of resources control.

Do you need state police to arrest and prosecute those bandits that are taken pictures and hobnobbing with government officials? Come on! Lets be serious for once in this country. Cleric Gumi said it time without numbered that security agents know where the bandits are. Failed country.

That means if an indigene of the state and an indigene of another state have a quarrel or dispute the state police will automatically take sides with the person from their state abi?

State that can't fund it will retain the old structure, using the FG police. Is that too hard? While state that can fund state police will be relieved of the Federal Policing system and hierarchy in the state.

And how will cross boundary policing be done? What will be the battery limit?

How will they recruit them? Good and bad people are in every local government.

This post is silly. We are all Nigerians and Nigeria's resources has been used to develop all parts of the nation.

To create State Police in Nigeria, the following would be my recommendations:

1. Any State that wishes to create State police must ensure that its annual Recurrent expenditure did not exceed 70% of its budget for past 3 years.
2. Every state must have a Police Governing Board consisting of represntative of Nigeria Bar Association, Nigeria Chamber of Commerce, Organised Private Sector, Nigeria Judicual Council, Christain Association of Nigeria, Muslim Association of Nigeria etc to control their affairs. The CP of the State Police should report to this board. The Governor can manage day to day affairs, but the broad objectives, rules of engagement, discipline, oversight etc should be managed by the Board.

He has been advocating state police for each sub national,he has further reiterated it's urgency,have you asked your gov what he is doing to effectively initiate state policing to be able to secure you!! Tinubu doesn't know upto 3/4 of all the LG in Katsina and all other states barring Lagos but the gov does,who is better placed to secure his state if not the gov

Th imperialist policing architecture we are running is rather outdated and counter productive to our current realities......due to our heterogenous complexities a single layer policing structure is most inadequate,we need a multi layered policing architecture like you have in the US where the states have there respective police units......how do you expect egbetokun a Yoruba man to know the socio cultural cum economic factors of a place like ugep in criss rivers or damboa in borno and be able to handle it effectively but a police from those locality who was born and lives there is better suited to effectively secure those places..
