A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has said that President Bola Tinubu was likely unbothered by those declaring their intention to challenge him in the 2027 general election given the disunity among northern politicians.

Jibrin, who represents Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency of Kano State on the platform of NNPP, disclosed this on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’.

“What we’ve always done, if anybody rises up in the North, we gang up to bring the person down. This is what has been happening. And I’m pretty sure those who said they are going to contest, or even to be specific, the Bola Tinubu that some are saying they are going to contest against, or defeat, must be smiling because he can see how disunited we are,” he said.

The lawmaker recalled how former Vice President Atiku Abubakar clashed with the then President Olusegun Obasanjo, partly because of opposition from northern politicians who resisted his attempt to consolidate regional leadership.

He added that former Vice President Namadi Sambo and current Vice President Kashim Shettima had also faced similar internal resistance within the region.

Jibrin’s comments came amid heightened political manoeuvres ahead of 2027, with debates over zoning and coalition-building shaping the early race for the presidency

That is an elected HOR opposition member from Kano o. Not a politician from states with insignificant voting strength. He's telling you that North is not united and anyone who attempts to consolidate power like Asiwaju did in his base is not going to achieve it. He is telling you that the best way for the north is to plan ahead for 2031. By then, Asiwaju will throw his political advantage in the SW in favor of a Northerner.

SW and NW are the twoajor voting blocs in Nigeria. SW is already behind Asiwaju and NW will be split if not already in the kitty for APC.

Yes. Tinubu only won 3 states in the core North. It was the margins he got that made him President. By 2027, he would not only lose these states again, he would get less margins. Elrufai delivered 400k votes to Tinubu in Kaduna in an election that Northern votes were split between Tinubu, Atiku and Kwankwaso only for SW to accuse him of working against Tinubu just to justify the betrayal. It is easier to deliver states like Kano and Katsina than it is to deliver Kaduna because Kaduna is highly cosmopolitan and heterogeneous like Lagos but Kaduna is still the headquarters of Northern politics.

Just as Tinubu defeated Atiku in the NW and NC on aggregate, he will do it again in 2027.

Atiku is not match for Asiwaju Tinubu. Insha Allah by 2031 we will support a competent Northerner after Tinubu 8 solid years.

It's naive to think so. Rather, if they vote massively for him in 2027, it is because of political expediency and the internal division Abdulmumuni just cited.

It's politics, not permanent friendships but permanent interests. Voting Asiwaju Tinubu is a joker for political positioning by Northern politicians for 2031. It looks more promising than the PDP or ADC route and not prominently about love for the President.

Tinubu cannot prevent power from returning to the North whether now or by 2027. Infact, going by his treachery and inability to keep his word, Northerners know that the SW will turn against the North come 2031 if Tinubu manages to win his re-election. Once bitten, twice shy. The highest margin the SW as a region can deliver to any candidate is 4m votes and even that is a huge stretch. New alliances will be formed.

The North are the Northern voting populace who are feeling the brunt of Tinubu's rudderless leadership. Tinubu is also not the Southwest. He does not even have his Southern base in his full grip. In 2023, he only won 4 out of 6 and lost his traditional base, Lagos. He's now hoping to win the SW by stoking tribal hatred and bigotry as a strategy.

If you don’t/cannot understand the North and still don't understand the SW, it's clear that you are not from the zones with the power brokers and voting blocs.

Lol. Which of the promises that Tinubu used to gain support has he fulfilled. He has rather betrayed a lot of those "powerbrokers" and is set to betray even more. He has cornered everything for himself and Lagos. What will he be negotiating with in 2027. The promise of handing power to the North in 2031? I just told you it's not in his power to change that.
