If it is your Property, he can't dictate what his earnings or commission is, you give him what you feel like (if at all you want to give). There is no Law that says you must pay anyone that brings a Tenant to your property.

I don't really blame the agents but properties owners who gives their their properties. Some owners are even collecting agent fee, damages and agreements now. That says, even in the absent of agents, some greedy property owners will still collect all this money from prospective tenants.

Nigerians are special breed of humans capable of inflicting pains on other for personal gains.

Well I think they should just make sure the 10% fees on commission on whatever they want to rent can be sticked to is the only answer here .


Even in Lagos state sanwo olu announced the 10% but yet only few adhered to it and they haven't arrested anyone yet of such act and it's still going on.


Government can only say words as cheap as anything but for them to manifest it effectively is the biggest problem 😡

..abi..it will not be easy for government to implement it..house agents is like a job or career..and a legitimate job .. house agents are care takers of the house employed by the landlord..in foreign countries abroad they are house agents..if the government ban them how will they survive the hard economy

No need of any intermediary.
In those days landlord or property owner place advert at the front of the available properties or place advert at the media or dailies.
I personal used to go to guardian to place advert,,when there was no internet,not to talk of now that we have internet all over.So agent work is more or less like extortion.

It is not ignorance Sir. I know more than a dozen Landlords here in the mainland of Lagos that don't collect Agreement Fee and will only tell any would be Tenants that he doesn't collect nor give Agent Commission. So, if the Tenants so wish he can part with something.

I was looking for a house for a friend, lo and behold the agent wants to charge 600k for a house of 1.2m rent.

When i say the problem of Nigeria is Nigerians, the regular Nigerian. The millions of them. Not your handful of politicians.
