OP, if you were a child in that situation described, would you have been happy or something? Before you say yes, consider the case of the millions of orphans in Nigeria today who roam the streets every day and night, many of them with living relatives who refuse to take them in.

Not everyone should go around having children because children are not meant to be solutions to problems, not even of the kind you describe.

I was thinking you will be talking about how a man of 56yrs lived without having a lawyer or a written "will" at age 56. Even some illiterates do have a written "will". It would have been better he willed his property to the orphanages than leave it for $uch a brother.

Having children is not compulsory, one can "will" his/her property to the poor, orphans, churches, etc.

Many people don't know this.

Some months ago a brother and member of our community Association based in Delta State went to village to see the extent work has gone in his new house which he gave his eldest brother money to roof.

This man Mr. Don as popularly called is a jolly good fellow.
He says the truth not minding who will be affected.
He is bold and fearless.
He was married but his wife died without bearing any child for him.
Instead of remarrying, he was bent on finishing his house before marrying again.

Noted: He was 56 years and hypertensive.

Back to the story.

He travelled home to see the work that is going on and to attend a burial in his village in Imo State. On Alighting from the bus inside owerri he had a partial stroke but instead of him to head to hospital in owerri, he decided to get home first. On getting home, his family members said he was poisoned and decided to visit native doctor who also said that he was poisoned.

They started giving him medicine and conducting so many sacrifices but nothing improved and he died 3 weeks later.

Remember he has roofed his house already but this is the most surprising thing. His eldest brothers children shared the room's of his house and furnished them but abandoned the seating room where he will be lied in state for the last time when his corpse return from the mortuary.

The seating room of that building was not touched but the rooms are already being occupied by his brother and children but couldn't plaster or decorate the seating room at least for burial purposes alone.

When we got to their house and saw this I shed tears. Oga Don suffered to build a house which he did not slept in it.
No wife, no children.
Nobody to oppose his brothers or caution them for neglecting the seating room.

This is a true life story.
Even if you hate yourself that you don't want to eat your money, please ensure you have children who will consume those wealth before strangers will do justice to it.

May his soul rest in peace.

Have gone through the first two comments, only yours made sense. Many will not understand the importance of your own family (wife and children) until it's too late. If you find a good woman that is focused and ambitious having a skill or career, don't wait till your late thirties before settling down. At most do that by 30 years as a man. If you're waiting for the right time. That right time may not come

I'm 39years doing well for myself with a wife and a one year 2months old daughter. Sometimes I still regret not settling down while I was 30years.

I reflected over my life when I attended this man's burial.
Do you know that the eldest brothers boy's had their girlfriend's in the rooms when the owner of the house is being buried and they could not come out to assist in bringing the corpse out from the ambulance?
It is our members who assisted the ambulance driver.

However...
There's no guarantee that his children would have inherited his house. I mean, this is Nigeria, the land where we say "wives are not your family, will everything to your brother so that he will take care of your kids", then sit back and cry when human greed manifests.

There's no guarantee he would have been a good father. He could easily have followed Nigerian society's bad morals and have cheated so much or even have broken up his marriage for the sake of his side chic and disinherited his children.

I guess the moral of the story is: "live well but don't store your inheritance on earth, think and work always towards Heaven".

✓ Your thought is not considerate; it is selfish. Having children is fundamental duty binded on man to do by nature. China is having a low child birth rate, many countries apart from Africa are having low birthrate. The reason is that they choose prosperity against posterity. Prosperity brings wealth while posterity ensures that wealth is maintained thru generations

✓ So don't overthink yourself on how your children will survive if you re no more. They will survive as you re surviving now without parents.

I bet you haven't traveled out of Nigeria to one of these countries you mentioned, cos if you had, you wouldn't write this rubbish. Lol. And don't you read wide? Try to read about political issues in other nations. If you try a bit to read about the UK which is close to you, then, you should know the reason Nigerians japa there. Use Google to research "care visa" cos obviously you don't know the details. I'm sure you only just hear about care this..care that...to the UK.

You can't understand life assurance in those nations so, let me not scatter your brain. The fact is that if you have any of those policies there, most cover your funeral so that when you die, your children doesn't need to pay 1 cent for your funeral. Most people arrange for their funerals before they die. That's a working system.


Your mindset is that which is flawed. I haven't said having children is bad, but I wrote that you should not depend on them as your investment that gives you roi during your old age, and for them to care for you when you are weak. Japan has a good health system too. And their kids don't necessarily carry the whole burden. In most cases, kids visit them in the care homes. And they unite with other families to take care of their old ones. Get this issue clear.


The you will keep getting messed up. Rather build your health system. If you keep this mindset, you will be messed up.

Let me explain. When you are rich and can afford to pay $12 - $30 or more per hour for a care to come to your home and do the job, it is fine. It's your money working for you. You are at a liberty to pay for such service. Do you hear me. Most rich people do it. Let's say you so called Uncle had money, instead of those people carrying him about to one herbalist, they would arrange for carer to take over after seeing the doctor. And the so called herbalist was free to visit him at home also. Na poverty and illiteracy dey worry many Nigerians.

So, do not twist my words. Children are blessing, no argumemt. I only wrote that they shouldn't be your investment to cash put during your old age. And they shouldn't be your primary care when you are weak.

If you don't agree, you will be disappointed the same way your Uncle is. Best of luck!

2. Children are gifts from God yet not once have I heard of a Nigerian couple that never had sex conceiving and birthing a child indicating that children are instead the product of the sexual desires of either a man and a woman or at least one of them.(Children are not a gift but a result of an action in the past of humans.)

3. They will survive yet every year, 10s of thousands of children die before their 5th birthday of ordinary malaria. Many others die from other preventable situations such as malnutrition/starvation. The suffering of many of these beings is what you consider survival?

However what I Will say is that without constant reproduction human lives won't be existing right now. Death of children will always occur e.g. Davido lost his son to death.so it is far better to have children so that they will survive according to Darwin theory (survival of fittest)
