[Anyone who has experience on NOUN's graduation policies on elective courses should pls help out.[/b] I don't want a situation where they'll use it to hold me down till next year where I have to pay another 30k for semester fee just to take that 1 elective 3 unit course. |

DivergentSony:You want to save cost and and the same time, you are afraid the course will hold you back. Register the course. Although, it won't hold you back but you can register it to be on a safer side |

Fkj202004:We only have to do at least one elective course each semester right? So that means as long as we have done one for a particular semester, we don’t have to register the other pending elective courses even though they still appear on our portal. Am i wrong? |
| Re: National Open University Of Nigeria (NOUN) Students by DivergentSony: 3:41pm On Sep 09, 2025*. Modified: 3:56pm On Sep 09, 2025 |
OK thanks but the general rule on elective courses is one must register one elective course per semester right? Because I think I've met that condition. I already passed 2 Elective courses among my 400L course. I did CIT461 Internet Architecture & Comm & CIT478 Artificial Intelligence at different semesters. What am just wondering is why it's only that CIT463 Intro to Multimedia Tech. that's the only elective showing as outstanding? Any Elective that one doesn't do in a level/semester, is it supposed to still show as outstanding in statement of results from support portal if one already passed the required no. of elective for that semester/level Fkj202004: |
| Re: National Open University Of Nigeria (NOUN) Students by Fkj202004: 6:46pm On Sep 09, 2025 |
Xenob:Elective courses are not compulsory. They are meant to boost your CGPA or so. If you have 1 elective for the semester, you can register the one; if you have 2 electives, you can register one and leave the other but if you have more than 2 electives, you can register more than 1. For MBA students, there are a lot of electives in their third semester in which they are to register 6 depending on the specific they choose. |

DivergentSony:It might be waived if you have passed all other core courses. |

I'm having the same issue with DES303 in my portal. It's among the registrable courses in my student portal but it is not among the outstanding courses in my statement of results from support portal. I'm a final year student and ought to have graduated years ago but project and some other things delayed me, so this semester that I want to wrap up my project along with any outstanding courses I'm seeing it among my registerable courses in student portal. Is it still advisable to leave it/not do it and they won't use it to tie me down for another semester registration to go and do it? Because I heard it's compulsory course for all departments. Enskynelson:How did it go for you last year with your graduation clearance @aliadi2 aliadi2: |
| Re: National Open University Of Nigeria (NOUN) Students by Enskynelson(m): 11:00am On Sep 12, 2025 |
DivergentSony:For DES303, even though the course is compulsory, it was clearly stated that it was compulsory for a particular level then. Help drop your Matriculation year. If it is old enough, I would bother to check to confirm. For instance NOU19xx... won't be required to do that course. Let's have your year of matriculation, let's see. |

OK, my Matric starts from NOU13... .I started NOUN 2014 after applying for admission Dec 2013 Enskynelson: |

| Re: National Open University Of Nigeria (NOUN) Students by DivergentSony: 5:02pm On Sep 12, 2025 |
Hmn! OK, thanks. Pls there's another question I have on graduation clearance. You or any graduate who understands portal analysis should help out. Is it outstanding courses in my statement of results or available courses I'm yet to register in my student portal they use to stop final year students from graduating? In my statement of results, there are 3 outstanding courses (2 compulsory & 1 elective). In student portal, after checking off those I've done, I'm seeing the DES303, CIT191 along with 6 electives I've not done: 1 in 200L - PHY208 3 in 300L - CIT333, CIT371 & CIT332 2 in 400L - CIT463 & CIT484 I'm studying Info Tech, so I'm confused on what to do on the electives so they don't use it to hold me down till next year. My initial budget that I funded was for the 3 outstanding courses in my statement of results: CIT191, CIT208 & CIT463 Enskynelson:

DivergentSony:Note that oustsnding courses on your portal will include all electives which are not compulsory unless you are below the minimum required credits for graduation. That is the major difference between the one you see in your portal and the statement of result. Back to what you presented above... I think aside the electives, both are the same. For u to have only 3 electives left means you have taken other electives and I am sure those are quite enough for graduation. Focus on only the Core courses left aside the DES |

Good morning all I'm trying to apply for my exemption letter via the NYSC portal but it's giving me feedback that no record found. I'm among those that recently graduated and I didn't do the jamb regularisation because my matric is NOU16**** Pls any idea what's happening |
| Re: National Open University Of Nigeria (NOUN) Students by DivergentSony: 3:31am On Sep 13, 2025 |
My current total credit units earned is 149. It's showing outstanding credit as -19. I don't know it's importance and understand how they got it because it doesn't match with the 12 outstanding credits from the 3 outstanding courses units (3+2+1) & project (6 units). I called someone in my faculty to ask about the electives, he said minimum required elective units to graduate is 21 units and above that I should calculate total of all my electives unit and if it's less than 21 that I should add to it. I calculated it and it's 12. In fact one of those elective like CIT484 AI is now C and 2 of the E I did in 200L are currently compulsory. I also noticed I didn't do any electives in 300L & only 1 in 400L 1st semester according to my statement of results. So I'm just thinking of taking one elective per semester from those 6 electives list as that's what I heard is the general rule about electives to be on the safer side. Enskynelson:

Dave0116:DES303 was introduced in 2024/1 semester. If you were above 300L by then, it won't bind on you. |
