remember you're just a sales boy and if there's any shortage it would be deducted from your salary. Insist on full payment and give him a deadline or you have to pay with your money. He's a serial debtor and don't fall for his blackmail. People are wicked

You've done what's supposed to be done in that circumstance, the business isn't yours, so if your boss comes you can show him you have the indebted customer's phone in lieu of his balance of 25k. If I am to be your boss, I will praise you for your no nonsense stand. Most customers take the dealers magnaminity of giving out goods on credit for granted by paying for goods whenever they feel like or not wanting to pay up at all.

So there is this man that I know and he owes other people too, he should be in his forties and I'm 21, so he bought goods from my shop today worth #60k and told me he will pay me once he gets back from were he wants to use the items he bought so he decided to drop his phone because I didn't allow him to carry my goods without paying. so this evening when he arrived he was sweating and complaining that the customer has not paid blah blah blah..as usual of them

He couldn't even pay up the person that went to work with him complete. He tried explaining to me sweating and all that that what is left in his account is #35k which he paid to me but I didn't allow him to go with his phone, I turned deaf ears to his ranting and assured him he is not leaving there with his phone without paying the remaining balance of #25k. He had no other choice than to leave without his phone and now am worried if I have done something wrong .

Was I wrong to keep his phone? What would have been the right action I would have taken because I'm feeling very bad now like what will he tell his wife about his phone.

Phone is not a necessity of life. It's not as if you held his kidneys ransom.

Wait for him to pay your money or else you will be the one paying that money.

I'm saying this multiple times because I've been a sales boy before and trust me wetin my eyes see for debtors hand eh, it almost crumbled my oga's business until I resolve to stand firm.

Sure some customers stopped coming around but they were never customers but people that always owe for months and pay only when you've spent money calling and visiting their homes or threatening to fight them.

Trust me, it's not good business. Hold onto that phone and every other debtors phone I beg you for your own good.

When you run your business, you can turn it into a charity organisation.

Agreement is agreement! This is business and emotions don't run a business. It would be different if he had borrowed the money on a personal ground.

Imagine two or three people coming to his shop to do that on a daily basis. How would he restock or pay his bills?

The guy should hold the phone till he pays.

Next time, he would make a proper arrangement with his client before going to get materials on credit.

The man too should go to his client and pull off those stuff if he refuses to pay.

You did the right thing bro... Don't give him that phone until he pays the balance or you'll never see him again, and even if you report to the police they'll first tell you to mobilize them before they make any move

You are obviously a salary earner, or don't know anything about business. It doesn't mean as a business person people won't owe you, but, there's a level to which you can give out debts. For even calling the guy wicked is a sign you too are not considerate.
First, he explains he's a sales boy. Do you know the risk of giving out debts as a sales boy? What if the customer suddenly disappears? Who pays the debts? You say he should get his address. Can the selller restock with the Phone he dropped as payment, and of what use is the phone to seller at the expense of his Money

Credit sales is a Privilege, the seller has sole right to protect his/her interest and decide terms n condition ...if you dont like it go else where but dont term it wickedness .... If you give him that phone without collecting your money completely, you may not get the remaining money back again. So hold on to the money until he pays the balance.
