Kosoco:Do not mind this man, op. Business thriving in Nigeria is as a result of astuteness. Be mean sometimes otherwise they will crumble you. Also what is the track record of the debtor? If he has been delivering, cut him some slacks otherwise no gree. |

Tharmon:Don't . Remember people who borrow money always act like victims until time to pay up, keep d pone until he pays, business is business. U delivered he didn't. U even tried by letting him take d goods away, that pone will make him pay up quickly else he will start avoiding u n try other shops |

Tharmon:remember you're just a sales boy and if there's any shortage it would be deducted from your salary. Insist on full payment and give him a deadline or you have to pay with your money. He's a serial debtor and don't fall for his blackmail. People are wicked |

You've done what's supposed to be done in that circumstance, the business isn't yours, so if your boss comes you can show him you have the indebted customer's phone in lieu of his balance of 25k. If I am to be your boss, I will praise you for your no nonsense stand. Most customers take the dealers magnaminity of giving out goods on credit for granted by paying for goods whenever they feel like or not wanting to pay up at all. |

Tharmon:Phone is not a necessity of life. It's not as if you held his kidneys ransom. Wait for him to pay your money or else you will be the one paying that money. |

Kosoco:You obviously don't run a business. I borrowed a customer N20K since April. That day was the last day he responded to my chat |

Business wise, you did well. But as a human, you could have considered other options. I guess that's why your conscience keep telling you. That we are humans b4 business men. God bless your hussle. |

It seems you are still a small boy, when you grow up, you will understand the meaning of agreement and business in Nigeria |

Host78: Very intelligent comment. God bless you. That @kosoco has never done business before, worked for someone, or lives in paradise — I don't believe any of these options. People are the same everywhere, without a effective leverage, you'll become a beggar for your own money. They did it to me because just like the OP, I felt bad for doing the right thing. They're doing it to my mother. |

Tharmon:Don't hand him his phone yet till he completes his part of the agreement.... The phone is the only leverage to make him come back to your shop. Don't listen to people telling you people are going through a lot. What if he doesn't come back to complete the money as agreed |
| Re: I Collected A Customer's Phone Because He Couldn't Pay, Now I'm Bothered by advanceDNA: 8:51am On Sep 06, 2025 |
Tharmon:Don't make that mistake.... If u drop that phone...u don't have any leverage The chance he would pay back is running towards zero.... In Nigerian business world, there are different strategy of increasing profit...one of them is through reducing your cost...and that includes scamming the supplier ......no lose guard |

He did nothing wrong! Do nt jump into conclusion without reading, did you see where he mentioned that a lot of people are owing him? Did you also read the part that they had an agreement which the customer is trying not to fulfill? he force him to drop off the phone Why can't the customer return the good or half of it.. How long do you think it will take a business to run down of people are paying half price of goods bought . Let your yes be yes! quote author=Kosoco post=136703916] You are a very wicked person.... After he squzzed his last 35k for you, you still kept his phone... now you are asking us about your action...... You could hv just note his contact and adress since you knew someone he tends to use the material for did not pay him... The only thing you can't run aware from is conscience look at how you're feeling now cos you hurt your fellow man... locate that man and give him his phone for your peace of mind.... On a final note always have compassion for your fellow man.[/quote] |

Tharmon:Don't allow anyone gaslight you. You're running a business and should be strict about it else you won't either have money to pay your rent or stock up. Business is not charity. |

Kosoco:I disagree 💯! Agreement is agreement! This is business and emotions don't run a business. It would be different if he had borrowed the money on a personal ground. Imagine two or three people coming to his shop to do that on a daily basis. How would he restock or pay his bills? The guy should hold the phone till he pays. Next time, he would make a proper arrangement with his client before going to get materials on credit. The man too should go to his client and pull off those stuff if he refuses to pay. Let's learn to do things right. |

Tharmon:You did the right thing bro... Don't give him that phone until he pays the balance or you'll never see him again, and even if you report to the police they'll first tell you to mobilize them before they make any move |

Kosoco:You are obviously a salary earner, or don't know anything about business. It doesn't mean as a business person people won't owe you, but, there's a level to which you can give out debts. For even calling the guy wicked is a sign you too are not considerate. First, he explains he's a sales boy. Do you know the risk of giving out debts as a sales boy? What if the customer suddenly disappears? Who pays the debts? You say he should get his address. I laugh 🤣. How? Anyone can formulate anything and drop as an address. Do you know how many people count losses- everytime they close their accounts- due to unpaid debts? Shey na business abi charity foundation the owner open? Secondly, he said the customer said the person he used the curtains for did not pay him, so what? How's that the seller's fault? Imagine collecting loans from a bank to start a business and the business collapse. Would you refuse paying the loan or interest because the business collapse? Never. Them go come collect their collateral and pray for you before they leave 😂😂. I heard of a pastor's wife who's sugar business crumbled because she was dishing out debts to her members in hope they pay. In the end, they either refuse paying, or change church. She said her husband refused giving her money many times because he warned her over giving out debts but she thought members would pay. Advising him to do business being considerate is ok, but you calling him wicked and the tone you use is more wicked than the seller you are calling wicked. |

Kosoco:Is it not there agreement He will come back Pay and collect his Phone ... is half payment in any of the agreement so how is he wicked Can the selller restock with the Phone he dropped as payment, and of what use is the phone to seller at the expense of his Money Credit sales is a Privilege, the seller has sole right to protect his/her interest and decide terms n condition ...if you dont like it go else where but dont term it wickedness .... People can not be trusted, anything can happen, imagine a buyer you give credit lose his life days after .... whose loss ![]() |

Nwaiyoo:Exactly. He was busy gaslighting the guy into thinking he was wicked. He should start a business and give everyone who cares to take on credit and let's see if he will not go bankrupt and close shop in less than one year |
| Re: I Collected A Customer's Phone Because He Couldn't Pay, Now I'm Bothered by Lekby25: 9:01am On Sep 06, 2025 |
Boy, you are a smart boy for holding on to that phone. You said that man use to owe other people, that means that is usual behavior. If you give him that phone without collecting your money completely, you may not get the remaining money back again. So hold on to the money until he pays the balance. Afterall, you are not the owner of the money, it belongs to your oga. If you are the owner of the money, you can leave the money for him |

You did the right thing as a business man. Business is business. However, call him and give him his phone back. I am sure he will pay the balance since he is your customer Tharmon: |
