nani667:Okay. I am trying to get the contact of the guys that installed the fibre for a company close to me, unfortunately the staff don't even know who to ask. Manager is no where to be found, hopefully I get the person tomorrow. |

radautoworks:You're welcome! I was considering it for months and there was pretty much zero information online from actual users, which is why I made the thread. |

First downtime today since installation. Lasted ~7 minutes. |

: nani667:I got to confirm from their marketer it hasn’t gotten to my street, even though it’s on a street down the road. I guess I’ll settle for Airtel unlimited for now. Thank you. While typing this it popped up again ![]()

Mykcool:If it is on a street down the road I am sure it can easily be extended to your street. That will probably be the Job of the agent that comes to do the installation. In my case it also wasn't in my street, my street was not part of the locations available.. but some other streets in my estate were available, there were also some areas just outside my estate. So what I just did while filling out the form on their website was to select the closest street to mine. When the agent came around the connection ran from outside my street. The installation took about four to five hours. And the rest is history 😏 |

I've installed 2 separate fibre optics services in my house now. My issue with them is downtime, even though both networks are good and fast, 5 - 7 days in every month there'll always be a cable cut or downtime. Is it the same on mtn as well, before I add this one join. |

Mykcool:Is the airtel truly unlimited boss and what's the monthly cost.... |
| Re: MTN FibreX - Installation, Speed Tests, Availability, And All You Need To Know by Mykcool(m): 1:18pm On Sep 02, 2025 |
Tochex101:Most reviews say it’s unlimited, personally I don’t think I’ll be hitting above 500gb per month. Their subscription starts from 30k for 20mbs, reason why I preferred the FibreX. |
| Re: MTN FibreX - Installation, Speed Tests, Availability, And All You Need To Know by michlins(m): 7:48pm On Sep 02, 2025 |
Tochex101:yes it's truly unlimited if you have a very good network around you |

michlins:Airtel is capped, NOT truly Unlimited |
| Re: MTN FibreX - Installation, Speed Tests, Availability, And All You Need To Know by michlins(m): 4:14am On Sep 03, 2025 |
nani667:I have used this thing for over a year and I have friends who also use it. It's completely unlimited. Just like this MTN, you buy the speed |
| Re: MTN FibreX - Installation, Speed Tests, Availability, And All You Need To Know by Zankut: 5:27am On Sep 03, 2025 |
michlins:It's not truly unlimited in the sense of say Starlink or MTN fibrex. I can confirm to you that there's a FUP and once you hit it, your speed gets seriously throttled, you probably have not so your speed remains as advertised |
| Re: MTN FibreX - Installation, Speed Tests, Availability, And All You Need To Know by michlins(m): 7:51am On Sep 03, 2025 |
Zankut:what is the FUP? Do you have the router personally? |
| Re: MTN FibreX - Installation, Speed Tests, Availability, And All You Need To Know by Ebubemg(m): 8:47am On Sep 03, 2025 |
michlins:1tb cap After that u will get shit speed |

michlins:You may feel it’s unlimited, that might be because you don’t use as much data as a very heavy user. I’ve got two neighbors using the unlimited, the one using above 1tb experiences slower speed (throttling) when he crosses a certain data amount. Terrible speed

First month of use was as good as it gets. I experienced some downtime on about four different days, but each of those didn't last more than ten minutes at most. Most people wouldn't even notice, and regular mobile data gets more downtime than that. Renewed my subscription at 25k for 50mbps. If September and October go well, I will likely switch to the 6 months plan for 120k and save some money. |

| Re: MTN FibreX - Installation, Speed Tests, Availability, And All You Need To Know by comatekeke: 11:41pm On Sep 07, 2025 |
HeavenlyBang:My opinion on the downtime. For the average Nigerian internet user, your best bet is likely a wireless/5G modem. The key reason is that it bypasses the major infrastructural challenges (cable cuts, power grid instability) that plague Nigeria's fixed-line networks. While the technology itself may not be as powerful as fiber, its reliability and ease of access make it a far more practical choice for daily use in most locations. However, if you live in a well-established, premium neighborhood that has a proven, reliable fiber optic network, and your internet usage is extremely demanding (e.g., you are a professional gamer or your business depends on zero-downtime), then fiber is still the superior choice. |
| Re: MTN FibreX - Installation, Speed Tests, Availability, And All You Need To Know by HeavenlyBang(op): 5:01am On Sep 08, 2025 |
comatekeke:I have MTN and Airtel wireless routers and experienced more downtime on those than FibreX. All the times MTN network disappears counts as downtime. Airtel was even worse. |
| Re: MTN FibreX - Installation, Speed Tests, Availability, And All You Need To Know by nani667: 9:07pm On Sep 08, 2025 |
HeavenlyBang:True, I have experienced even more downtime on their wireless devices. Happened quite frequently when I was using MTN 5G broadband. The Network just decides to go off from time to time. A month and about two weeks into my FibreX life and I am yet to experience any downtime 🫱🏻🫲🏼 Even under heavy rain my FibreX still blazing |
| Re: MTN FibreX - Installation, Speed Tests, Availability, And All You Need To Know by HeavenlyBang(op): 9:35pm On Sep 08, 2025 |
nani667:Yeah, the best thing about FibreX is that it's not affected by peak usage periods or rain. Usually with mobile data, speeds tend to drop in the evenings. That isn't the case for FibreX. Also completely unaffected by rain. That said, I had a weird outage last night. Wasn't like previous ones where internet service disappears for a few minutes, this one had my router LOS flashing red for over an hour--indicating a lack of signal entirely. I think likely there was a power outage at the main service point. First time I've had such an occurrence and not something I'm keen on. Fingers crossed it doesn't happen again. |

HeavenlyBang:Thanks for this, very helpful. I'm wondering, can I use my MTN 5G Router with it? I'm guessing it will work way better than whatever they're giving for free. And I see it has a port for a network cable (not sure if input or output though) |
| Re: MTN FibreX - Installation, Speed Tests, Availability, And All You Need To Know by HeavenlyBang(op): 10:18am On Sep 10, 2025 |
Gravy17:Probably not, since each router is linked to the FNID. There's a single network-in port for the fiber optic cable (which is how you get your service, it's not a wireless service), and four ethernet ports. |
