Nigeria Needs New Breed Of Leaders — Ezekwesili, Bakare by Omooba77(op): 5:25pm On Sep 06, 2025
Former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili and the Founder of the Citadel School of Government, Pastor Tunde Bakare, have noted the need to groom a new generation of leaders who are grounded in values, equipped with the competencies to champion good governance, and are completely called to nation-building.

The duo made the call on Saturday at the official opening of the CSG and the onboarding of the pioneer class of its Advanced Diploma in Public Leadership and Statecraft program, organised in partnership with the University of Lagos Business School.

The event was held at the Citadel Multipurpose Hall, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos.

Recall that the UNILAG Business School and the CSG signed a Memorandum of Agreement in June to launch a nine-month Advanced Diploma program in Public Leadership and Statecraft.

The MOA was signed by the UNILAG Vice-Chancellor and Registrar, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, and Mrs. Victoria Wickliffe; and the Founder/Board Chairman of CSG, Pastor Tunde Bakare, and the Company Secretary, Mr Tope Adebayo.

Ezekwesili, who delivered the keynote lecture at Saturday’s opening ceremony, lamented what she described as the “democratisation of corruption” in Nigeria, noting that the country could not continue to pretend in the face of institutional decay.

She decried the ‘institutionalisation of corruption,’ noting the need to nurture an army of nation builders committed to nation-building and reversing the country’s failures.

She said, “We have no business to fail; failure is not our destiny. However, all existing institutions in our country are struggling. Corruption is corrosive. For years, people carried on as though they did not see what was happening until it festered and became systemic, democratised. Now everybody says, ‘If you can’t beat them, join them.’ Join who?

“We must stop normalising corruption. No matter how competent you are, if you lack character, you will go nowhere. Building Nigeria requires people who are restless about nation-building, people willing to take a stand when others choose compromise.”

On his part, Bakare said the programme was established to bridge the leadership gap in Nigeria’s public sector governance by equipping young people with the values and tools for effective governance.

Bakare said, “Our mission is to raise nation builders like you—leaders grounded in values and equipped with the competencies to champion a new philosophy of governance across diverse spheres of public leadership.

“With your admission into this programme, I am confident that Nigeria is about to experience a new wave of transformative leadership across sectors.

“With your induction into this program, I do not doubt that a new breed without greed, a radical opposition to corruption, and a cohort of changemakers is about to be equipped for high visibility and maximum impact.”

Bakare emphasised that the partnership with the University of Lagos would ensure that participants benefited from both academic rigour and practical exposure to governance.

“With the strategic deployment that will result from your participation in and conclusion of this program, I am convinced that the first fruit of a unique breed is about to emerge to begin to lead the change Nigeria needs at all levels, from the local to the subnational to the national to the continental to the global.

“By taking this initial step, we are on course to bridge the leadership gap in public sector governance in Nigeria, Africa, and, by extension, across the globe,”
he said.

“We will do this by providing current public sector leaders with exposure to cutting-edge tools for continuous development and by facilitating the mobility of quality leadership from the private to the public sector.”

Bakare urged the participants to brace themselves for the vigorous nine months ahead.

You have just accepted the call of destiny by joining this pioneer cohort. The road will not be easy, but the opportunities for service and leadership will present themselves both during and after this training,” Bakare said.

He commended the University of Lagos Business School and its leadership for collaborating with Citadel School of Government, saying the partnership was “a model of how the ivory tower can meet the policy roundtable to generate solutions.”

He added, “While the University of Lagos Business School offers you access to the highest cadre of academic competencies, we at Citadel School of Government bring you access to our rich public governance networks as well as our think tank operations, which have facilitated our nation-building engagements through the years.”

The Advanced Diploma in Public Leadership and Statecraft will combine classroom learning with field engagement, mentoring and policy simulation, aimed at producing leaders who can think globally and act locally.

Some people want to be recycling some bundle of dead woods as leaders because they feel they are "doing " others.. Imagine Obasanjo and Buhari coming back to "rerun" the countey as they like..

My attitude to it is very simple; since you like ancient and modern to be running the country, when Tinubu is done go and get Gowon, Danjuma or Babangida to do another 8 years.. Make them president on their dy-i-ng beds..

Or you can dig up Murtala, inject him with fresh blood and make him the new president of Nigeria. You have to because you guys are running out of "materials". Buhari is gone and Obasanjo said he has entered the "lounge" to the other side..

What is needed is what we have now in His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR)

A new breed of progressive leader who has in-depth knowledge of local and world economics. A risk analyst and same time conflict manager who has extraordinary knowledge in planning and execution of what drives the economy.

What we looking for is exactly what we have now. Our priority should be giving our all to support His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR)

New breed of leaders from these citizens or from another planet?
These set of corrupt, selfish, greedy, unethical and immoral citizens?
Make I laugh small grin

Your leadership is a microcosm of your citizenry. As long as most Nigerians are corrupt and unethical, you will always have the leadership that we have today.
Even these 2 loud mouths are part of the problem.

Return campaign funds or face legal action, ACPN threatens Ezekwesili
by
Ebunoluwa Olafusi
February 7, 2019

The Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) has demanded that Oby Ezekwesili, former presidential candidate of the party, return all funds generated during her campaign.

On Wednesday, Ezekwesili had accounted for “every penny” spent on her campaign.

The former minister said the campaign raised N48,957,416.00, $17,645.00, and £200, from October 1, 2018 to February 2, 2019, before she withdrew from the presidential race.

He said the accounts rendered by her was unacceptable, while alleging that there was no transparency in what was stated.

“We are rejecting everything she submitted in entirety, we want to know all the content of the accounts and see the accounts because at the end of the day it is not the presidential candidate that INEC will hold responsible according to the law but the party, and whatever any candidate generated for his or her campaign belongs to the party,” he said.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Chief Olawale Edun has said the last time Nigeria’s economy looked stable was about a decade ago.

He made this statement during his maiden press conference as Minister of Finance where he outlined President Bola Tinubu’s vision, agenda and strategy for the economy.

He said, “I think as we all know, we are not where we should be. The economy is barely growing above the rate of population growth.

“But it was not always so, and I think in trying to look at the way forward, if we now have a situation of slow growth, double-digit inflation, weak/depreciating exchange rate, as well as security concerns that are resulting in an economy that is not growing and not taking Nigerians out of poverty.

“If we think back to the last time when the economy was stable- when it was growing, when inflation was low, and the interest rate was affordable, that period was about a decade ago. Growth was about 6% in 2013 and 2014.”

NEWS‘I am number 16, Buhari is number 15.‘ The Pastor Bakare prophecy that got everyone talking (video)

Published 6 years ago on September 23, 2019

Founder and Pastor of the Latter Rain Assembly, Tunde Bakare has told all who care to listen that he would succeed Muhammadu Buhari as the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Bakare who made the declaration during a Sunday sermon said nothing is going to change it because he was born for that purpose to be president even as he said he is confident that, while Buhari is number 15, he would be the 16th president of Nigeria.

According to the controversial clergy, God had prepared him for this job for more than 30 years.

“I will succeed Buhari as President of Nigeria, nothing can change it. I am number 16, Buhari is number 15. I never said it to you before. I am saying it now and nothing can change it.

“In the name of Jesus, he is number 15. I am number 16. To this end was I born and for this purpose came I into the world. I have prepared you for this for more than 30 years,” he said.

Buhari’ll reduce petrol to N40/L —David-West

FORMER Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Prof. Tamunoemi David-West, said that Nigerians should expect sharp drop in petrol price from the current N87 to about N40 per litre, saying, “the president-elect, Gen. Mohammed Buhari, will reduce the fuel pump price to N40 per litre.”

Petrol should never cost more than N70 per litre, says APC

January 19, 2015

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as mere tokenism the reduction of petrol price from N97 to N87 per litre, saying the petroleum product ordinarily should sell for N70.

On Sunday, the federal government announced the reduction of petrol price, citing the fall of global crude oil price.

But the APC through Lai Mohammed, its spokesman, on Monday accused the government of making a show out of deceit, saying “a 10.3 per cent slash in the price of petrol was a mere tokenism at a time the price of crude oil has crashed by about 60 per cent”.

It argued that the pump price of a litre of petrol should not be more than 70 Naira, alleging that at N87 per litre, the government was forcing Nigerians to subsidise the massive corruption in the oil sector by N17 for every litre of fuel.

The corrupt military rulers dragged us into this after recruiting touts into politics at that time to ensure they were not probed. Touts continued to recruit more touts from council to state level until our system is dominated by these category of persons who are in control of our nation without the basic knowledge of what nation building is about.
