Sealing off a business? Yes, I understand it. But what does sealing off an estate mean? Does it mean that the residents (families) should relocate elsewhere? With whose money? Why not fine them and give them a week deadline/warning to fix the mess or be charged to court with options of imprisonment and fines? |

Mr commissioner, did Lagos State Government provide sewage evacuation drains for waste water? Why seal off an estate if Government does not provide required infrastructure. Does LAWMA expect the residential property provide waste water drainage? Why do people pay taxes and tenement or land use charges? Lagos is called MEGA city fir mouth. In every MEGA city, the authorities provide central drainage system in Lagos, individuals build their home, build their water supply system, provide their electricity, renovate their access roads, yet pay exhortation taxes. This needs to change. LAGOS TRULY SMELLS BEVAUSE GOVERNMENT IS MORE OF OWAMBE |

An Over priced hyped slum is still a slum, a slump painted white is still a slum. A slum priced at N100,000,000 naira is still a slum. Incase you no understand: I mean: Superficial changes don't alter reality, if you spray p00p chocolate flavoured scent it is still p00p The overcrowding, poor infrastructure and lack of basic amenities are still pervasive even in that Lekki. Illusion of value Vs. Actual value: Inflating cost of property because an area is “up and coming” because Dangote just built a fertilizer plant and an oil refinery nearby or federal government just built a super high way (all these are hazardous to human health and you should not build a residential property near a refinery or fertilizer plant or a super high way for obvious reasons but Nigerians get coconut head una go learn the hard way but google Cancer alley USA) Back to the topic “up and coming” road, refinery etc. Does not automatically translate to genuine value. There are many properties that are worthless despite being located next to a super high way due to a-lot of reasons. |

Validated:You have a point here but the practice now is to do a Soakaway pit and have a regular evacuations when necessary and also dig a smaller soakaway pit for waste water to enter the ground. This is what most people do now in areas where there are no Government Constructed Drainage. |

Did this happen overnight? Wahab should be explaining why his agency never knew about the violations. Don't they have agents to monitor the community for violations? If so who were responsible for not reporting this or and taking action? What is the policy of the City regarding such violations? This is foolish to lock the estate...what happens to the residents? ...would the problem go away? Makes no sense. I expected the City to impose a hefty fine and order to cleanup in 24 hours. If not...the City can get the work done and the cost forwarded to the landlord to be paid in full within 30 days. If not...then the City should either confiscate the property or sell it . I blame this on Wahab for failing to monitor the area and enforcing the laws |

alphonsoolajide:Where does government want them to channel the water to? No drainage in Lekki, most drainage are not flowing with trapped waste water, what is the job of the town planning? land use ? There should be big canals like the ones you have in Jakande first gate, The only alternative that can safe Lekki is to create canals across Lekki Epe expressway to the lagoon that run behind Lekki , the only solution, it will cost billions, and the earlier the better , this is not a project one estate can handle, it’s the duty of the government Sealing estate is mere chasing shadow , it’s not the solution, rebuilt Lekki drainage canals into the Lagoon, some properties will give way though |

SmartPolician:The residents would continue to fly fence till they settle the government which includes also fixing said issue. As fort hose wey get motor, if e dey inside compound while it was sealed, it would remain in there BUT if it were outside the compound before it was sealed, then you go go find car park. As for those wey no fit fly fence, no wahala. na dem sabi |

Really? Is this not supposed to happen in a city of shanties, slums and ghettos? Does Lagos have a drainage system that connects drains to a central wastewater collection area? Why can't they develop lagos beyond the disaster Bobo Chicago left for them to manage? Until they use judiciously the funds Lagos gets due to its privileged status, it will continue to stink. |

SmartPolician:Definitely. Probably open one gate, as it's would be constitutional breach of freedom of movement for LASG to try that on residential area. As you said, you can seal business premises and order everyone out. But an Estate where people live? No way, reason why you can't even evict a tenant without court judgement, cos right to shelter is sacrosanct |
