Is This Worth Repairing? by Mineisgrace(op): 5:36pm On Sep 07, 2025
I have a small Ox standing fan I bought in 2022. So recently, we got a solar installation.
It was blowing so fast and nice. Few weeks after using it with solar it stopped working.

We asked a maintaince man to help us check it out, he said we are going to buy a Capacitor. I paid and after fixing it the capacito, the fan still didn't work.
He now said we are going to have to change the coil.

So I want to ask people who have changed a coil before, if it's worth it. Hope if they rewire or change the coil, it will work well and not get spoilt quickly?

. I'm having a similar problem right now as I type....As a matter of fact, once I'm done with re-coiling it, I'll just sell it out cuz my mind and instinct is telling me it won't last long.........

The recoiling should be done with a copper wire by a professional, that's the most important thing.

Please! Man said na "capacito". He change "capacito", the fan no work. Then he says "change coil", and you are considering trusting him and changing coil?

I beg you to come tell us he told you "na your solar installation", and asks you to pay him to change your solar installation.

Alternatively, go look for a more competent maintenance man! Because, even if he is right this time, his previous wrongs show he does not know what he's doing.

That said. You remind me of a doctor I once met. If he behaved like your "maintaince man", I think i might not be alive.

The issue is not even repairing the fan, the issue is your Solar installation might likely spoil it again, and some other appliances if you are not careful.

Do you know the exact make of your inverter, if not take a picture and drop it here.

Nigerians

Where I live, there's a condition on second hand products bought through classified ads like Jiji. If the item breaks down within a stipulated period of like 3 months, the seller is liable for the damages as long as it's no fault of the buyer. In this scenario, you won't be doing wicked things like this or better still, sell under full disclosure but I guess this won't be your intention.

Yes I was surprised too when I asked for the price of the new one. Bought mine 11,000 and now it's 30k. There is most definitely something wrong with things in Nigeria. Everybody is just pretending things are ok.

the OX fan is a fake fan, i bought two of them probably in 2023 or 2024, both had issues and i had to recoil it locally first cost me 5k, second cost me 6k. they are both in storage now grin i dey find person to offload am to.
No 1 just started smoking one day and refused to work, No 2 doesnt even blow like fan sef, also the plastic blade is crap, gets broken easily. i bought one used old Binatone standing fan from the repairer for 5k, fixed my 8yrs old electric fan. But currently heat never dey like that, but i get ceiling fan join. I bought those crap because the house i was given then had no fan.
