It's cool but you have to warm up the soup every now and then because the tomatoes thickening the soup every 10 minutes

Today, on our way to the market, Hubby, Baby Light, and I made a quick stop at my parents’ shop. It’s conveniently located just off the highway, a little before the market, so we decided to drop Baby Light off with my mum to make shopping a bit easier.

After we were done at the market, we swung by again to pick her up—and ended up staying a while to chat. As we were gisting, Mum glanced at the small quantity of fresh tomatoes I had bought and asked, “Will this be enough for you?”

I replied, “I’m going to mix it with Snake Tomatoes.”

The look she gave me—pure disapproval! “No o!” she said immediately. “Don’t mix it. It’ll spoil your stew.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. “Mum, have you even tried it before?”

Let me tell you—if you ever taste Snake Tomatoes, you’ll not just like them… you’ll love them.

They’re so underrated! You won’t find them in our local markets; you actually have to grow them yourself. To be honest, I hadn’t even heard of them until last year—Hubby was the one who showed me Snake Tomatoes and how it's prepared.

Can you describe how to cook it
If possible with pictures
Thanks 🙏❤️❤️❤️

How is it prepared for stew.
Very much plenty around me.
I'll make a video for you.
For now, I'll try to describe in the best way possible.

How I do prepare mine:

Use a spoon and take out all the inner thick part of the tomato into a plate.
Throw away the outer peel.
Some people blend it in but I'll advise you throw it away if you want to enjoy your stew.

The seeds in the middle has to be thrown away but you must first take out the red coating out of the seed by just touching your hands on the seed and it will come off.
That's what makes the stew red.

Use a spoon to mix well in the absence of blender.

Then prepare it like you're making stew.
Best enjoyed with fish.
Add little curry leaves not sachet curry.

I've been eating snake tomatoes for years.

The first time I came across it, I thought it was weed but later found out that it is delicious and just two of it can make delicious stew.

It is also very easy to grow in sacks compared to normal tomatoes.

The problem with Nigerians is that they are too stuck in their ways. No one wants to try anything until everyone has tried it.

I've been thinking of starting a small snake tomato farm, drying and packaging it like dry pepper.
I think it is an alternative to the main tomato in the time of hardship because that stuff is tasteless. Anyway we are already in hard time.

All you need are the right spices and you are good to go 😁

I noticed it has a delicious flavor and taste when it is unripe though
