Terrorists Launch Midnight Attack On Kwara Community, Kill Resident As Governor Vacations Abroad

Terrorists, locally dubbed as bandits, launched a deadly overnight attack on a settlement in Bokungi, Tsaragi community, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing one person and rustling several cows.

SaharaReporters gathered that the incident occurred around midnight and into Wednesday morning, leaving residents in shock and fear.

Sources told SaharaReporters that the assailants stormed the community at about 12 a.m., shooting sporadically to scare residents before carting away dozens of cattle.

One of the sources explained that the attackers targeted the Fulani settlement belonging to Alhaji Garuba and Alhaji Mumini, where Mumini’s first son was reportedly killed during the raid.

The source said Alhaji Mumini’s son, Muhammadu, who had just married a month ago, was killed.

Meanwhile, when the bandits were unable to force open Alhaji Garuba’s door, they went straight to rustle all his cows.

The source told SaharaReporters that the bandits came through Bokungi and moved straight to the settlement.

The source noted that the bandits started firing into the air and everyone began running for safety. They took away many cows and left destruction behind.

According to the source, "They came around 12 a.m. when the kidnappers entered through Bokungi and moved nearly 700 Fulani cows, shooting as they went. They passed through Fengewa before vigilantes and Nigerian soldiers attempted to intercept them, but as of now I don’t know if the soldiers and vigilantes succeeded.

"Alhaji Garuba and Alhaji Mumini were affected, with Alhaji Mumini’s first son killed by them. The stolen cows are estimated to be nearly 1000. People are asking why the Nigerian Army made no real effort."

Residents further explained that as the attackers advanced through Fengewa, the gunshots alerted local vigilante groups and security operatives, who mobilized quickly to confront them.

A combined team of vigilantes and Nigerian Army troops engaged the bandits in a brief exchange of fire, but it remained unclear by Wednesday morning whether any arrests were made or if the stolen cattle were recovered.

"We got a call this morning from Shegbe that they saw some cows and had stopped them,"another source said.

The killing has heightened fears in Edu Local Government and surrounding areas, with residents lamenting the rising wave of insecurity in parts of Kwara.

Community members also expressed frustration that the attack happened while Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was reportedly away on vacation abroad, leaving locals to rely heavily on vigilantes for immediate protection.

SaharaReporters reported previously that the staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Patigi and Edu Local Government Areas of Kwara State have abandoned their duty posts and locked up their offices, citing the escalating wave of kidnappings and bandit attacks.

Top security sources told SaharaReporters that operatives in the intelligence community had advised INEC personnel to stay away from the volatile areas, warning that they could be targeted as “soft victims” by marauding bandits.

One of the sources disclosed that Lade town in Patigi LGA had been largely deserted due to repeated attacks by criminal groups.
“The INEC staff are scared. They don’t want to risk being kidnapped or attacked."

Another senior source added that the abduction of INEC officials would not only cause a national embarrassment but also pile pressure on the Tinubu administration.
“The fear is that if INEC staff are kidnapped, it would not only be a monumental national embarrassment but would also put the Tinubu administration under intense pressure and scrutiny,” one of the sources said.

“The INEC staff are scared of being kidnapped or attacked. They were told to seek clearance from security agencies before going to their duty posts. Hence, if anything happens to them, they are on their own.”

Residents confirmed that INEC offices in both local government areas remain locked for most days of the week, frustrating the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise that commenced in August.
Many locals say the suspension of services has further weakened confidence in government promises of security.

Another staff member revealed that the INEC chairman had bluntly stated there would be no funds to pay ransom in the event of abductions.

“We can’t risk our lives in the name of national service. There is no assurance of our safety. If bandits could attack a community barely two hours after the governor visited the place, then who is safe?”

“The INEC chairman has said that he doesn’t have money to pay as ransom to any bandits,” one INEC official told SaharaReporters.

The governor of Kwara State is not doing enough. What is happening in the North is at the result of years of negligence of many things.

There won't be a single peace anywhere until open grazing is totally banned. By then everyone will start monitoring who is coming into their community.

The governors also needs to start spending security allowance on security instead of looting it.

Gov. Fashola template of tackling insecurities in Lagos with partnership with Nigeria Police birthing RRS is a good example on how to tackle insecurity.

Gov. Peter Ayodele Fayose prohibiting open grazing, equipping and supporting the local hunters in Ekiti State make the state so peaceful with no single report of farmers and herdsmen clashing.

Enough of people hiding inside the bush in the year 2025...

Stop all these nonsense you people are doing, do you know how many states that have banned open grazing including Benue, what then is the problem?

Enforcement, and that is where Tinubu is supposed to give the states support, but he is not, Amotekun got tired of arresting herdsmen and some of their members even got shot by the police for arresting herdsmen.

Tinubu is not ready to ban open grazing because of politics, hold him responsible, just one executive order will end open grazing in the whole Nigeria, states wouldn't need to even start enacting laws for that.

How you people sit conveniently and blame everybody and exempt Tinubu is something that needs to be studied, the people I even see their own as unique are the south westerners:

They made loud statements during election that it was only Tinubu who could fight Fulani and that Peter Obi is a weakling and Atiku is Fulani so he won't fight them, fast forward to Tinubu's administration and it is even worse than Buhari's own a Fulani man, even your Obas were killed in Yoruba land and now Kwara has been added to the list under his watch.

But today you people are not even holding him accountable for anything even though most of the security chiefs come from Yoruba land, the power is just useless to you people to protect yourselves not to talk of protecting others, yet you people are not calling Tinubu out, it is to be blaming other people, something is definitely wrong with both Tinubu and you people supporting him, it is clear you people just wanted power for bragging rights and to hate on Igbos, because the power is not even helping you people and you people are not even bothered.

By begging and negotiating with bandits, the state is now a slave to bandits, this is the beginning of their end.
Re: Bandits Launch Midnight Attack On Kwara Community, Kill Resident by dgr8truth(m): 8:39am On Sep 10, 2025
The primary duty of any government is the protection of lives and property. Unfortunately, in Nigeria this obligation has been consistently undermined. What we see today is not merely a failure of capacity, but a failure of will. Security has been reduced to a political tool, where leaders downplay threats or shift blame depending on who is in power, while supporters echo excuses instead of demanding accountability.

The long-term consequences of this approach are grave: unchecked insecurity weakens economic activity, discourages investment, deepens poverty, and erodes public trust in state institutions. When citizens begin to see the state as incapable of protecting them, they turn to self-help, which only accelerates instability.

Government must therefore treat security as a non-negotiable priority, above politics and partisanship. Anything less will come at a cost too high for the nation to bear.

The EDIT-
Rugged Jihadist when to hustle cows for offering and sustainance for the struggle. The willing donators gave them wishing a successful conquering of more territories.
Soldiers and vigilantes shot in celebration as the jihadist went with the gifted items into the bush. In the heat of the celebration a lenghty public holiday was declared as inec staff did not come to work and won't be coming for a while

I can only hope and pray these people aren’t gradually infiltrating and spreading into the Southwest. Because if you truly understand how these bandits operate, then you’ll know this is a serious red flag that should worry the entire region.

Instead of blaming the leadership for failing in its mandate you are saying god will heal the victims.

People like you are the reason we have bad leaders in power, pastor that reason like you are the promoters of bad leadership.

Because when these leaders come to your church you clear the front seats for them allow their bodyguards to molest members all because you want to eat their cursed crumbs, shame on you.

You don't have to bark before you make your point. If you have anything against Tinubu wait for another thread to do that. You stylishly input Benue State into the discussion as if you traveled into the moon when the governor of Benue State confirmed to the press statement that the major problem is communal clashes in his state.

Majority of people arrested so far in connections with Benue killing are indigenous people.
