Instead of sacking customs boss and holding the customs responsible for their failures ,govt after govt keeps increasing price and it doesn't work

Buhari and every other president who didn't remove the subsidy have Nigerians at heart somehow.
Their not removing the subsidy led to debt service eating 90% of our revenue and our effective forex reserve being at 4 billion dollars as at late 2022.

Subsidy money comes from somewhere in the budget , and the resulting hole needs to be filled with taking on loans.

Lol and replace them with angels?

At one point , one could make profits of over 500 naira per liter transporting fuel across the border.

Not only Nigeria. Libya had a bad oil smuggling issues even when Ghaddafi was in charge. Venezuela too loses tens of billions of dollars to snuggling . Iran has issues with smuggling diesel

No country with subsides on fuel can stop smuggling. Profit dey.

When was the last time you see the queue at filling station, when was the last time you here that our custom and other security officers have to battle fuel diversion at the border, when was the last time you hear states saying they want to borrow money to pay salaries?
Bring back our queues and return fuel to 216 per liter. Black market will then be the alternative, selling fof #400 per liter, still far better than this 900# per liter.

And what did the masses benefit from tinibus removal of the petrol subsidy? Shey the wahala is still ongoing.
You still think policies are made to favour the masses? It is a poverty-driven mindset if you think like this.On paper it is like that but in reality it doesnt happen anywhere in the world. The masses are only used to drive economic development and activities.

All these stories because a certain man called Alhaji Aliko Dangote saved the country and citizens from the disgrace and misery. If not for him and his refinery, these people will continue with their stories endlessly.

As of today, none of the state owned refineries work. Obasanjo tried to sell them off and get investors, but some people who opposed him has other thoughts. That none of the state refineries work, is a pointer to how horrible leadership continues to set the county back.

Have you not heard about supplementary budget? A good leader would've considered the masses and done the needful. But No!, he blatantly and arrogantly removed it from the first day of resumption.

You are sensible with your post. The supplementary budget would have been able to dowse the economic tension a great deal cos he had the opportunity and right to raise it as president. After all, he raised a supplementary budget in other areas too. That shows the height of insensitivity to the sufferings of the masses and act of wickedness.

The supplementary budget would have taken care of the palliatives for subsidy that was removed. How can a president promise palliatives on resumption on an empty budget? Since 2023, he's not revisited that side. Like I've always said, democracy is primarily set up for the masses. Call a prado jeep any amount, the rich can always afford it in any economic situation.

The man has proven several times he's not for the masses. See the osun state LG allocation he's been withholding for 7 months now. Thanks to the adeleke family who have been paying them salary steadily from their pocket. He wanted osun to boil but this never happened. I hope Nigerians are seeing what's happening. If those who voted him dare make same mistake again, they'd see the version 2 of the ongoing economic woes

See the contradicting statement, price adjustment removed subsidy during Buhari regime but Tinubu still had to remove subsidy because it was inevitable.

This country is indeed fantastically corrupted
There is nothing contradictory about the statement. What he meant was that , the moment he increased fuel price there was no more sibsidy. But ofcourse the subsidy later came back due to other factors( Rise in crude oil price, fall in the value of the Naira e.t.c.) which Tinubu removed on assumption of duty as the President.

Buhari and every other president who didn't remove the subsidy have Nigerians at heart somehow. IMAGINE removing the only two things Nigerians can ever ever benefit from a corrupt government and converting them to your personal revenue. That's what Tinubu did and some people are praising him. Dollar subsidy gone, fuel subsidy gone. Proceeds are going into the hands of the top guns to use for buying private jets and biscuits worth billions of naira, lol.

Subsidy should be considered as a financial scholarship to the citizens and removal of it is wickedness. The government can pay subsidy and still have large amount of money to function if they really want to. Now subsidy has been removed, where is the proceeds going to? Into individual hands of course. Used for silencing and bankrolling once APC opposers. It is a pity.
I pity your ignorance. The federal government was paying for Subsidy on Petrol but some corrupt people are diverting it to another country { NIGER, Togo, Benin republic} at a cheaper rate causing scarcity of fuel in the country that subsidize the product for her citizens but you don't have problem with this. Do you even know Petrol Subsidy put this country in so much debt and the citizens are not enjoying the benefit. How can you keep borrowing money to Subsidize products for another country? Do you remember the last time you queued at filling station? I guess your hatred won't open your eyes to something like that.

I still don't see how subsidy removal can stop the snuggling , that's a lazy excuse , the price of our surroundings neighbors will always be higher than ours , even if we make a litre 5000 it will be 5200 in neighboring countries

Government has deceived this one. Now that they are not paying subsidy where is the money? Why is the government still borrowing? No queues for filling stations because many people cannot even afford buying fuels. People don't have money to fuel their cars and generators anymore. How is that a merit? I laugh at your ignorance. Suffering and smiling no dey end for your side?

Abeg help me ask Tinubu which subsidy he stopped on his inauguration day.

Cause i keep telling these thieves that Subsidy regime stopped with Buhari long time before the 2023 election.
What made the price fluctuates most times were the infractions in forex n devaluing the currency

[quote author=ChizzyBuna post=136753219]The only thing buhari did right was not removing fuel subsidy[/The former minister said he introduced a policy of “price modulation,” allowing petrol prices to reflect international market realities.

He explained that the slight adjustment not only removed the subsidy but also cleared fuel queues nationwide within 48 hours.

“That singular price adjustment removed the subsidy. There was no more subsidy. And within 48 hours, magically, every queue in the country stopped. It never happened again until I left. That was how I could at least sleep better, and the government made more money,” he said.]
Read that part well

The same way most past governments too lied.

Most Nigerian governments did not want to do total subsidy removal. Even tinubu, his own total removal was forced by high debts. So they do partial removal.

What buhari did re subsidy is what GEJ, Yaradua, Obasanjo, et Al did. Partial removals .

Because you guys don't want total removal
Kachickwu said he removed subsidy totally not partially, it reflected the price of international market.
Subsidy was removed since 2016 kachikwu was the GMD NNPC...
During covid i still remember there was price increase n decrease almost within 1month cos crude price dropped during that period.
What made it looked like they were paying subsidy was the exchange rate regime, The devaluation of the currency, thats what made them jittery about subsidy.
They even came up with the term UNDER-RECOVERY cos they said NNPC was importing fuel at high price n sellling at a lower price.

Subsidy regime stopped since 2016, i dont know what Tinubu removed on 23rd may 2023...

The problem is that while Kalichukwi did remove subsidy , he maintained price control

By the time landing cost passed the price set by government, subsidy came back

That's been the game since 1973.

The only time one can believe subsidy is gone is when the market sets the price. As it is now.

From that article, kachikwu said he removed subsidy and the price reflected the international market price.
What keeps price still slightly modulated is cause of dangote refinery.
If that facility wasnt there, we will be hearing landing cost and rubbish.
They r just trying to hide their greed cos dangote is here doing his business.
Ask them why they still waste scarce forex to import fuel?

I'm glad you are still able to laugh so channel that energy into making things better for you and your family then you will stop complaining and feel bitter towards someone that wants to save the future of your unborn kids. The fact that you have no issue with people diverting our subsidize Petrol to another country means you are a greedy person. By God grace I'm not suffering and smiling and if I'm going low on funds I channel my energy into making life better for me and my family. Do the same then you will have less time to complain about government since you have not been complaining about the Cancer that finished the economy till this moment.

Fuel is imported because we still can't meet domestic need. It's going to take a while

5billion dollars was wasted on port Harcourt n warri refineries, why hasnt Tinubu prosecute those involved in the scam?

Why can't we do things for posterity sake than try to be politically savvy...

How will you fund the supplementary budget? You have to be specific, because it seems you are smarter than the opposition leaders who tend to carefully avoid this topic by focusing on how it's done rather than what is being done.

Subsidies often benefit the rich more than the poor; they only make things cheaper for the poor in the short term, at the expense of a better future.

As for the Osun LG allocation, that is a Supreme Court decision—unless, of course, like typical Nigerians, you expect the president to disobey the court simply because the judgment doesn't favor you. Yet you'd cry blue murder if the political gladiators were the ones benefiting from that same disobedience.
