Gunmen Kill Three Police Officers During Attack On Kogi Checkpoint by treesun(op): 12:41pm On Sep 10, 2025
Three police officers were killed on Wednesday morning after gunmen launched an attack on a security checkpoint in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.

According to local sources, the incident occurred in the border town, which shares a boundary with Kwara State. The gunmen reportedly stormed the checkpoint, engaging the police officers in a fierce gun battle.

The assailants came for their guns, which they carted away. Three police officers died in the gun battle,” a source at the scene told SaharaReporters.

Videos obtained by SaharaReporters show vehicles allegedly used by the attackers as they fled the area after the assault.

Earlier on Wednesday, SaharaReporters reported that bandits launched a deadly overnight attack on a settlement in Bokungi, Tsaragi community, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing one person and rustling several cows.

SaharaReporters gathered that the incident occurred around midnight and into Wednesday morning, leaving residents in shock and fear.

Sources told SaharaReporters that the assailants stormed the community at about 12 a.m., shooting sporadically to scare residents before carting away dozens of cattle.

One of the sources explained that the attackers targeted the Fulani settlement belonging to Alhaji Garuba and Alhaji Mumini, where Mumini’s first son was reportedly killed during the raid.

The source said Alhaji Mumini’s son, Muhammadu, who got married a month ago, was killed.

Meanwhile, when the bandits were unable to force open Alhaji Garuba’s door, they went straight to rustle all his cows.

The source told SaharaReporters that the bandits came through Bokungi and moved straight to the settlement.

The source noted that the bandits started firing into the air, and everyone began running for safety. They took away many cows, leaving destruction behind.

"They came around 12 a.m. when the kidnappers entered through Bokungi and moved nearly 700 Fulani cows, shooting as they went. They passed through Fengewa before vigilantes and Nigerian soldiers attempted to intercept them, but as of now I don’t know if the soldiers and vigilantes succeeded,” the source said.

"Alhaji Garuba and Alhaji Mumini were affected, with Alhaji Mumini’s first son killed by them. The stolen cows are estimated to be nearly 1000. People are asking why the Nigerian Army made no real effort."

Residents further explained that as the attackers advanced through Fengewa, the gunshots alerted local vigilante groups and security operatives, who mobilised quickly to confront them.

It started from SS, then to SE, then to NE, now, it's NC.
And the government keeps talking propaganda.
The earlier we brave up against banditry and terrorism, the better.
It's been handled with kid gloves for now.

Over coming banditry is more of the will of the people. Until the day the people rise to challenge banditry, that is the day we will find a solution. They live within the people, the feel accepted by them even though the are still being killed by same bandits who the share affinities.

What a great loss to the Federal Republic of Nigeria

This is shameful and disgraceful. The culprits must be arrested immediately and made to face the wrath of the law.

My sincere condolences to the families of the slain cops. We shall never forget their service to mankind.

God bless The Nigerian Police Force.

In one week alone, Nigeria has lost close to 500 citizens officially while scores are being kidnapped daily. Do we even have a government at all? It seems people do shiit and get away with it. God have mercy

Where in the world has insecurity been completely curbed?

We making progress and almost there. His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) is consulting with all security stakeholders and adopting resolutions.

The perpetrators of this crime don succeed in dropping Nigerians mentally before proceeding to attack physically. Nothing will change if the mental side no fix.

The things happening today have been happening very long before now and there is a reason why Southwest is the least affected.

Let me take you back to 2000. Buhari had to travel down to Oyo State when Lam Adesina was Governor. He came along with Bubba Marwa to plead on behalf of his Fulani tribe because the people of a place, a big city though called Saki in Oyo State stood up against the invasion of Fulanis at that time. They were taught a lesson which till today, the mention of Saki sends shivers in their heart.

It was a fight by the people, for their own survival. All it takes is courage, determination.

Overcoming terrorism is about the will of the people?

Do you guys even listen to yourself or have sympathy fpr all the lives lost on a daily basisto insecurity and acts of terrorism? Why are you so desperate to absolve the government of its responsibility to the people?

How exactly will the people rise and challenge terrorists who are usually armed to the teeth? With juju or bare hands?
