In this video, The Imo State governor has condemned the practice where all seven oil companies operating in the state remit their taxes to Lagos State and keep their headquarters there, diverting revenue that rightfully belongs to Imo to Lagos. Excerpts: "We have seven oil producing companies and none has an office in Imo state. The Imo State government has no access to their nominal roll to even collect pay as you earn tax. Everything is about waiting for monthly allocation. I've now said no, it must change. I had a meeting with all the oil producing companies and I said you must have your address here. Including those that are partly owned by the Imo state government, yet they have no business outfit anywhere in this state. They are all operating from Lagos, I said no"—Gov. Hope Uzodimma. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zegM4hXGYbo?si=JY7B4z3_Q_Y-i1qY

What type of tax goes to Lagos state government from Imo? I have when supposed governor talk like illiterate, when he is not an Obidient. Approach Nass through your representative and request for the norminal roll of the oil company domicile in Imo state from the Chairman of Labour and productivity committee or through the Chairman Committee on Local content. Whipping up sensational words won't change your lukewarm approach to governance |

What is the scale of their operations in Imo State? That's a fair way to make taxation demand. You can't force them to hq in Imo as far as Nigeria is concerned. You have free trade zone around Airport road...Owerri-Aba. Use it. Attract your own industries to Imo State. |

Ignorant Companies do not remit tax to state governments How many times will we repeat this lie? Go to. CHATGPT TYPE IN NIGERIA DO COMPANIES PAY TAX TO THE STATE OR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT This is especially true of oil companies Headquarters is a building and you pay tax ON the building to the state Those who work there also pay PAYE but nothing from Imo State goes to Lagos state Government Fact check so you learn |

shortgun:Is oil exploration ongoing in Imo State? They have administrative offices and camps, which he can tax without issues. If the operation isn't in tandem with the tax, then it should be reviewed. I want Imo to have all monies due them, but I want to be billed fairly. Tomorrow might be my own turn. |

aribisala0:Let me educate you. For an oil company operating in Imo but has it's headquarters in Lagos state. It pays the following taxes to Lagos State. 1. Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) Income Tax Collected by Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) Paid by Employees via deductions from their salaries. 2. Business Premises Levy Collected by Lagos State Government Annual levy on business premises is based on size/location of the office.... 3.Land Use Charge Collected by Lagos State Government Property tax on the building used as the HQ. 4.Signage and Advertisement Fees Collected by Lagos State Signage & Advertisement Agency (LASAA) Company signboards, billboards, and promotional materials in Lagos. I can go on and on..... |

shortgun:You are not educating me You are indulging yourself I already said this here on this thread Yes or No Please don't bother responding if you won't be honest about that and I invited people to check in. ChatGpt So stop try to act like you are educating anyone but yourself Does Imo state or Lagos state receive PAYE for workers living in Imo What proportion of the staff of an oil company work at the headquarters as opposed to those doing work on oil installations You mention advertising and signage? Funny very funny . If indeed they are advertising inLago what is it that they advertise in Lagos that they don't advertise in all the 36 states . Think before talking. What is it that an oil company advertises that must only be advertised in Lagos at any rate you advertise to customers so they must have customers in Lagos Are there none of their customers in the remaining states Everything you have listed is not up to one percent of the tax on the operating profits which goes to the Federal government I cannot fathom how an oil company with engineers and technicians in Imo Port Harcourt etc will pay more PAYE for staff in the headquarters How many staff are there compared to the Niger Delta? Finally everything you mentioned The oil companies have always done it is not new and. Yet in 1999 IGR of Lagos state was 500 million a month These things did not start in 1999. They have ALWAYS PAID LOCAT BUILDING TAX AND PAYE IN LAGOS |

israelinvests:What is it that oil companies advertise? What do they advertise in Lagos that they don't advertise in Imo Does Imo not collect the other taxes If they are doing oil business in Imo don't the people working on sites pay PAYE.? Are those people fewer in number than those at the headquarters? They are doing business in Imo without buildings ? Imo does not charge property or land use tax? |

| Re: Video: All Oil Companies Operating In Imo Pay Taxes To Lagos State —Imo Gov. by shortgun(op): 7:46pm On Sep 10, 2025 |
aribisala0:Under the Personal Income Tax Act, PAYE is paid to the state where the employee works, not where they live. If an engineer lives in Imo or works in Imo but was officially employed and paid under a Lagos-based contract, Lagos collects the PAYE not Imo. Almost all their staff are employed in Lagos. This is a major loss for the host state. the HQ location is a strategic tax advantage. Lagos knows this. That’s why the governor of Imo is right to push for relocation so host states can retain both the environmental costs and the fiscal benefits of resource extraction. we're talking about state revenue streams here and Lagos benefits from these because it hosts the HQ while Imo bears the environmental and social costs of extraction without getting equivalent local tax returns. This should not be...this is exactly the position of the governor |

shortgun:So, which of them is imo entitled to for a companies operating with no single building and address as he said. Ipob/ESN can't allow them to have office in Imo, try to improve security first and lure them with good bargain and incentives to have structure there and not by threatening them |
| Re: Video: All Oil Companies Operating In Imo Pay Taxes To Lagos State —Imo Gov. by shortgun(op): 8:06pm On Sep 10, 2025 |
sreamsense:This is not correct. Security is important, yes, but it’s not an excuse for systemic exploitation. The fact remains that oil is drilled in Imo, yet most of the economic benefits flow to Lagos simply because companies choose to register and base their HQs there. Even if IPOB/ESN were an issue, that doesn’t justify letting billions in state-level tax revenue escape. It’s the duty of the federal governments to guarantee security for strategic industries and oil companies themselves have operated in far riskier environments elsewhere in Nigeria when it suited their profit. The governor is only stating a fair economic principle .... if you exploit our land, you should contribute to our local economy not take it elsewhere. |

shortgun:PAYE don't go to the state the company is based, it goes to the state the employee resides. If you work for XYZ LTD based in Lagos and you are residence in Ondo, your PIT goes to Ondo, not Lagos. On LASAA, some big corporates no even get sign anywhere so they have no reason to pay such, if they wan do ads, they pay the ads agency within the domain they want to place their ads |

aribisala0:The governor has a better knowledge on these matters than you. I support the governor in this crusade. Those companies must set up tax paying operations in Imo. Lagos is for Yorubas and they must generate their own tax. I will advise all oil producing states to join in this agitation. Billions of naira will justly be diverted from Lagos to those states per month |

If any oil company is operating in Imo without filing PAYE returns then shut down the place after warning them. That is what they do in Lagos If any company has buildings and workers in your state without paying the appropriate taxes that is your fault |

I thought the new tax bill is meant to cater for this kind of in balance . At least that was what we were made to believe . But then on a second note, Company income tax is a federal tax and as such the taxes of these companies go to Abuja |
