If we administer subsidies the way the US is doing fuel subsidies, petrol would not be this expensive and we will even make money exporting to other african countries. The issue with the way we handle subsidies is that it creates room for stealing and presenting fictitious receipts for fuel importation.
If we had administered subsidy correctly and properly, that would have been the best incentive to build refineries and sell fuel cheap.

Petrol is expensive in the USA.

Plus US does production subsides and we were doing consumption subsidies. Consumption subsides always cause problem. Ask Iran, Venezuela,Libya , Angola etc.

The "Giant of Africa" can't afford a paltry $4.5 billion dollars per annum to subsidize petroleum for its poor citizens?
Subsidy costs as at January 2023 for six months was higher than that .

The thing is, subsidy costs rise year in and out. Tomorrow it might be 8 billion dollars

1. I didn't create the thread

2. You seem to lack serious comprehension skills. I was remarking on the absurdity of petroleum being subsidized for citizens of the richest country on earth, while some of the poorest people on earth had their own subsidy taken away from them even though they probably need it more than the Americans do.
compare USA GDP to Nigeria GDP, compare their economy, compare debt and revenue. Do you know lately Trump is begging citizens for donations? If it was Nigeria , hell fire go close down.

Go back and read the article. It was spelt out in black and white what the usa subsidy covers .
They will NEVER understand. The article is too complex for them.

Like seriously do you have at all or you just want to use it.. why don't you compare the minimum wage
You people are always jumping from one lane to another whenever you get caught.

You were informed that their subsidized fuel is still more expensive than ours and what you could think of was to immediately jump to another laneundecided

You are very right Genius since both countries are on the same level economically. Make una dey use una head even if it’s once annually na🙏
So you think the largest economy in the world would be affected because it spends that amount annually? Please be using that thing once in a while, It’s not there for decoration.
You're calling on them to use what they don't have and even if you give it to them for free, they will reject it.

The subsidy is just to support some producers. Not for everyone

Represent $31B as a percentage of the U.S. annual budget, then compare $4.5B as a percentage of Nigeria’s budget for better perspective.
🤔That's an awakening call for some individuals who are quick to judge without proper analysis on the correct perspective and context.

Subsidies on oil production not consumption. Let's clarify this before gullible Nigerians start deceiving themselves.

You mean, the Giant of Africa can't afford a paltry $4.5 billion per annum to make life easier for its citizens?
Yes my dear and especially when the vast benefits of the subsidy payment are enjoyed solely by a few people. Being the giant of Africa doesn’t make us the largest and richest economy on the continent.
In fact, countries like Togo and Benin enjoyed the Nigerian subsidy more than we Nigerians.
Na una dey think say Nigeria rich, relative to other economies in the world, we are nothing but church rats.

Instead of you to focus on the issues you decided to go tribal. The day you guys will start being honest to yourself maybe Nigeria will be better but I doubt cos a lot you are just unapologetically biased. Who is your sponsor and who are you defending

You know the drill very well.
China, India,Russia, America Germany, UK etc subsidise fuel for their people. These are world big economies. Control comes in different forms.
Subsidise and tax them.
They will give you textbook explanation. When reality show face, you cannot met up and run to them for loan. That's what they did to tinubu. They hold the man for blokoʻs. If you get sense like them, they will topple your govt and put a puppet they can control.
Very wickëd people . . . angry
