IBBUL: Poorly Written University Circular by Morbeta11(op): 11:01am On Sep 13, 2025
The University Circular.

The circular from Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, banning "signing out" celebrations due to past disruptions aligns with a broader trend, as seen with Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s similar ban in August 2025, reflecting growing concerns over campus safety and order amid rising student-related incidents.

Linguistic errors like "won" instead of "warn" and "in convoyed" suggest potential staffing or proofreading issues, a surprising lapse for a university, with a 2023 study from the Journal of Higher Education noting that 15% of Nigerian university administrative documents contain avoidable grammatical mistakes due to undertrained staff.

The ban on activities like driving cars in speed or drinking alcohol highlights a shift towards stricter disciplinary measures, possibly influenced by a 2024 UNESCO report indicating a 30% increase in campus violence linked to celebratory events across African universities.

grin
Hehehe...

Oya just imagine the rubbish that came out from a supposed university grin

Now one would be wondering why our universities keep on dishing out half baked graduates into our society every blessed year angry. Whereas the system that produced them is nothing to write home about angry

They were doing well...

Well, until they got to the second paragraph.

For an academic institution this is really unacceptable!
Re: IBBUL: Poorly Written University Circular by Efuaye(m): 11:09am On Sep 13, 2025
Maybe they were in a hurry to get the circular out by all means.
However, it takes someone with high intelligence and an observant mind to pick out errors in such write-ups. That's why we have proofreaders.

This is no excuse for a whole university! In fact, I would be offended if such an excuse is needed for ordinary me.

I would definitely be hesitant buying my education from such institutions if I had alternatives, and would create alternatives for myself if not.

High intelligence to spot such insane and clear errors? Brother, a primary school student would spot it, my niece who's in primary 2 would do a better job

Ai should have been better. Look at that second paragraph, they couldn't even arrange the spacing and letters well. Look at how they broke "student" to another line without hyphen it. When appointments are based on nepotism rather than qualifications.

I have been waiting for someone like you cheesy. See your own mistake too, Mr. Grammar Too Know.
It’s “hyphenating it,” not “hyphen it.” ✅
it's "hyphenating it" not "hyphen it" ❌
Since we are all looking for mistakes. It can be acceptable for me and you, but for an institution that impact knowledge to others, it is wrong my dear Mr. Grammar. Anyway, thanks for the correction.

What do you expect when they keep promoting “Quota System” in order to measure up with their counterparts in the South?
Re: IBBUL: Poorly Written University Circular by OkpaNsukkaisBae(m): 3:39pm On Sep 13, 2025
Okay, they should just postpon the celebration to convocation day. U can invite anybody, drink alcohol inside campus too

ChatGPT should be introduced to everyone. AI would have done better.

Coming from a university in Lapai, Niger State; I am impressed. At least they didn't spell convocation as "kwonvokation". I am sure they didn't include it because they don't know how to spell it. We should applaud their effort.

Seems proof reading is not taken important anymore.
A scholar of Professor title signing this shows how degrading our education sector is .
Everyone is more concerned on how to corruptly enrich themselves.

This is a far cry! ..this is what you get when incompetence and corruption is the order of the day ..🤔

Is babangida aware of this? And to think a professor put his name under this travesty. Shame!

The worst tragedy ever on the African continent is finding ourselves where we judge ourselves by the standard of someone else language. A foreign language!

Nothing should stop that school from writing that message in the language of the community where the school is located.

You begin to wonder why a Charlie Kirk has no respect for black people. Ironically, the people sitting at the bottom of the dirt of what's wrong are the ones you call "literary giants" though they were also imposed, they're not a product of African culture.

This letter is terrible.

But did anyone notice that the cursor of the computer used is still on the document, specifically at the date "12"?

It shows this document was not printed out.

It was specifically created for social media post. For whatever reason. Probably to generate traffic.

I am not saying the university could have done better ooo, or they didn't have a letter exactly like this sent out, but this particular letter didn't come from them.

Just saying.
