The Egyptians are now floating a proposal for an Arab NATO.
The Pharaoh is making his move.

During the Arab-Israeli wars, the dominant Arab powers were Egypt, Syria, and Iraq.
Of the three, only Egypt remains fairly powerful.
An Arab NATO will thus be an Egyptian hegemon.

It will be a huge blow to Erdogan.
The attack on Qatar and Syria has eroded the confidence the Arabs had in him because he is in NATO and has no flexibility.
Egypt on the other hand has historical ties to the Axis (and is in BRICS). Egypt is a natural ally of the East.
Crucially, yesterday, Larijani, the de facto NSA of Iran gave Persian stamp of approval to this proposal.
Apparently, on the sidelines of the Beijing-facilitated Saudi-Iran rapprochement, the Persians and Egyptians started one of their own.
Pezeshkian also visited Cairo late last year. Only the second time an Iranian President has visited Cairo since the Islamic Revolution.
Clearly, the Persians favor an Egyptian hegemon over an Ottoman or Saudi hegemon

I think the Gulf will use this proposal to bludgeon Erdogan and the US.
They will not agree to it, but they'll ask Sisi to build the foundation in secret.
It explains why Egypt made an offer to Hamas to relocate their leadership to Egypt after the Qatar attack.
To join the Islamic Jihad SecGen and Popular Front leadership that are already in Egypt.
It also explains why Sisi unilaterally ended the 40-year coordination with Israel.

Besides the ambition and prestige, Egypt needs the money.
