Celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci has begun serving food from her giant jollof rice pot at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, after more than eight hours of cooking.

Videos circulating online showed Baci and her team serving steaming plates of rice to thousands of attendees, with large portions of the rice remaining from the 200 bags used.

One clip taken around 4 a.m. captured the massive spread, with onlookers exclaiming, “200 bags of rice no be anybody mate!” “Hilda Baci is feeding Lagos”

The pot of Nigerian jollof rice took an unexpected turn when the massive pot suddenly collapsed while being hoisted for weighing. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

PUNCHONLINE reports that the event, which began on Friday, drew a huge crowd of Gen Zers, millennials, food lovers, and celebrities, and it has been described as a festival of Nigerian jollof.

Baci, who previously earned global recognition for her Guinness World Record cooking marathon in 2023, said the goal of this record attempt is to showcase Nigerian cuisine on the world stage.

No integrity check before dispatching such a package. Such should have been subjected to kilograms higher than that of 500 bags of rice before settling for 250 bags or 200.
That's how Structural assessment is done before commencement.

Exactly what I wrote about in an earlier post. The physics showed that her calculation was wrong and disaster was in the making. That's why she even reduced the number of bags from 250 to 200. But disaster still happened.

What Hilda was trying to achieve needed precise mathematical and engineering solutions to handle that much weight of rice. The pot itself should have been polished reinforced steel.

Like I said yesterday, physics is impassionate and brutal.

Abeg make una rest. Hilda is a CHEF and a private citizen. Do you want a chef to build nuclear weapons or perform 'surgeries' with her kitchen spatula?? She is making strides in her profession and putting Nigeria on the world map with her skills doing what she knows best. You people here making these kinds of denigrating comments should go and do what other "great countries" are doing since you don't value your own people. Go and set your records in the fields you have listed since it is so easy.

Hilda is someone growing girls should try to emulate because this young lady is innovative, hardworking and very intelligent.

was about to say this. This is on the company or professionals who fabricated the pot and a start reminder that when it comes to manufacturing , which should be the foundation of any .oder. Day society, we are still decades behind.

Three vital things were lacking in her preparations:
1. Qualified engineers and welders;
2. Consultants;
3. Experienced organizers and event planners.
A qualified engineer would have designed the massive pot to match any risk specifications, with the welder, bringing his expertise to the job.
A consultant will assess the job as it proceeds along, query certain aspect of the job and ensure it meets the standards required.
The organizer will ensure everything required for the smooth running of the event, including the weighing paraphernalia matches what engineer and consultant provided.
So you see, she did it the Nigerian way like tinubu would.
Yes, you cut corners, you allow incompetence and you introduce mediocrity.
