Elijah Fled From Jezebel Despite His Great Anointing! Many Lessons To Learn! by Daejumong(op): 8:48am On Aug 31, 2025
Elijah ran away from Jezebel despite all his anointing! Why was he so scared that he prayed God to take his life? What lessons can we learn as ministers and children of God?

Looking at 1 Kings 18–19
Elijah had just called down fire from heaven on Mount Carmel, proving God’s power over Baal and leading to the execution of 450 prophets of Baal. But instead of national repentance, Jezebel—furious over the loss of her prophets—sent a death threat to Elijah, vowing to kill him within 24 hours (1 Kings 19:2).

Why did Elijah run for his life?

• Fear of Jezebel’s vengeance: Despite his boldness, Elijah knew Jezebel had the power and ruthlessness to carry out her threat.
• Emotional burnout: After intense spiritual warfare and public confrontation, Elijah was physically and emotionally drained.
• Disillusionment: He expected revival in Israel after the miracle, but saw no change. This crushed his hope.
• Isolation: Elijah felt utterly alone in his mission, saying, “I alone am left, and they seek to take my life” (1 Kings 19:10).

He fled to the wilderness, sat under a broom tree, and asked God to take his life—an expression of deep despair. But God met him there with food, rest, and a gentle whisper, not rebuke.

Food for thought
- Men of God no matter how powerful go through periods of self doubt, fear, isolation and burn out. They need our prayers.
- Men of God often keep their challenges to themselves and this can lead to emotional and psychological distress.
- Men of God are humans and make mistakes. Constructive criticisms can help guide them in the right part! Elijah thought he was the only righteous prophet left until God corrected him there were 7000 others! Gentle criticisms are very valuable to a man of God.

Some biblical principles are difficult to understand! Elijah fled from Jezebel according to the above but Elisha cursed 42 lads to death just because they called him baldhead!

Life they say no balance!

2 Kings 2-23-25
From there, Elisha went up to Bethel, and as he was walking up the road, a group of boys came out of the city and jeered at him, chanting, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!” Then he turned around, looked at them, and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Suddenly two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys. And Elisha went on to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.…

like putting on make up and planning to bewitch him, makes sense why he ran and didn't even Elisha avoid

Jezebel was not only wicked and occultic she had the power of the political state behind her. A state shaped by immorality, intrigue and violence.

She was an exceptionally dangerous woman. Their are few modern equivalents. Even those Queen of the coast ruling over some politicians do not have official state power.

Fleeing foreshadowed the advice of the Lord

"When you are persecuted in one town, flee to the next..." Matthew 10:23

My point being that fleeing evil is not a sign of spiritual weakness. Context is important.

There is no lesson there.

He fled from the government in power.

No matter how powerful your Daddy G.O may claim, Tinubu can render him useless by a single pronouncement. We witnessed how churches and mosques were shut down by government during covid and heavens didn't fall.

A case study is in Anambra state. Three notorious babalawos are languishing in detention for months now. All their powers failed them against the government. Go figure!

The only thing religion propagates is FEAR to keep people in check.

Re: Elijah Fled From Jezebel Despite His Great Anointing! Many Lessons To Learn! by blackboy2star(m): 10:26am On Sep 14, 2025
He fled because of the bolded below... His hand is filled with blood already and the devil (Jezebel) knows that's an advantage to her bringing him down. It was the perfect pretext to hunt him down. She could frame him as a murderer to justify her own actions, even though her true motivation was to eliminate the man who had exposed her gods as powerless and her agenda as corrupt.

According to the Bible (1 Kings 18), Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal to a contest on Mount Carmel. After the prophets of Baal failed to get their god to send fire, Elijah called on the Lord, and fire consumed his sacrifice, the wood, the stones, the dust, and even the water in the trench around the altar.
After this demonstration, the people acknowledged the Lord as God. Elijah then commanded the people to seize the 450 prophets of Baal. He had them brought down to the Kishon Valley and slaughtered there.

1 Kings 19 Jezebel was furious. She sent a messenger to Elijah with a chilling death threat, vowing to kill him within 24 hours just as he had killed her prophets.

Not actually; The fleeing is an error in God's eyes.

A general of Gods' charge is not suppose to drop in faith. Without faith, you cant do anything significant with God.

He fled because he felt he was alone is the battle and Jezebel would increase the velocity of attacks against him next time.

Kindly note:

It is not God's will that Elijah should flee the scene at the crux of the battle for God's revival.

He demonstrated lack of faith in the God that had rained down raw fire before him to consume an alter and the king's soldiers more than once.

That was why God corrected his error to him first (I have 7,000 that has not defiled themselves) before sacking him on the mount and asked him to go and anoint Elisha as a new prophet in his chamber.

this is a lie

Due to the religious diversity of the Nairaland community, it's impossible to come up with policies that will make everyone happy. We can't give everyone what they want, even if we try, because some people want the opposite of what some other people want.
Re: Elijah Fled From Jezebel Despite His Great Anointing! Many Lessons To Learn! by MaxInDHouse(m): 11:10am On Sep 14, 2025
The false prophets were slaughtered due to the reminder Elijah gave Israelites as written in God's laws {Deuteronomy 13:6-11} but when it comes to the life of a politician no servant of God should disrespect them {Romans 13:1-3} otherwise such a person will face the wrath all alone. Romans 13:4

John the baptist is the greatest of all the ancient servants of God according to Jesus {Matthew 11:11} he was arrested and killed for questioning the authority of a politician who snatched another man's wife! Matthew 14:2-4

When John called to know why Jesus isn't taking any action regarding his unlawful detention Jesus told his that he is doing his own assigned duty! John 11:2-6

Servants of God are not to interfere in the personal life of politicians we can only speak with innocent people who don't know what is happening regarding falsehood!

Y didn't he pray to God to burn jezebel with fire? This goes to show how using your God giving sense works ..he knew he was in danger instead of staying and firing prayer he ran to safety....if as a Christian u dont use your sense u r a foolish person and u cant blame God if things happen to you

What you said is exactly the issue God had with him.

However, spiritual battles of that magnitude are very tense my brother. It comes tru intense prayers and fasting. So calling the great man of God foolish in this context may be harsh.

In fact, God did not rebuke him (like he did to Moses), he just subtly sacked him instantly and replaced him gently. That is because he had worked much for God, and must be rewarded and the glory of God must still be preserved before the eyes of the people.

You will notice that both Elijah and Moses did not die physically like everyone of us. Their departures were secretly handled by God himself.

Because He wasn't stupid. He had already killed many soldiers already when Ahab sent for Him then still killed baal prophet's in their hundreds after disgracing them. He knew fighting was no more an option, it's not like He couldn't stay to fight. And U can see God supported His running away..
