Tragedy At Ogudu Flyover: Pedestrian Dies After Hit-And-Run Attempt In Lagos by eyesoflagos(op): 6:45am On Sep 15, 2025
A tragic scene unfolded at the Ogudu flyover bridge, inward Ifako, Lagos, when a pedestrian was killed after being struck by a Nissan Jeep (KJA 354 ET) whose driver allegedly tried to flee the accident scene. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

LASTMA Intercepts Fleeing Driver

Confirming the incident in a statement on Sunday, the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, revealed that instead of assisting the critically injured victim, the driver attempted to escape.

Fortunately, LASTMA operatives stationed around the area acted swiftly, intercepting the fleeing suspect and ensuring the victim received immediate medical attention.
Victim Could Not Survive Injuries

Despite efforts to save the pedestrian, the victim was later confirmed dead.

Bakare-Oki explained that the crash occurred after the driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to outmanoeuvre a heavily loaded articulated truck, striking the unsuspecting pedestrian in the process.
Handover to Police for Investigation

The suspect was immediately handed over to Ogudu Police Division for further investigation, while the mangled vehicle was evacuated and deposited at the station.

Bakare-Oki commended the swift response of traffic officers and security agents who coordinated the rescue operation but expressed sadness over the pedestrian’s death.
Warning to Motorists

He also used the incident as a warning to drivers against reckless speeding and dangerous manoeuvres, stressing that such actions put the lives of both motorists and pedestrians at risk.

“Every life matters. Motorists must realize that speeding and reckless driving not only endanger them but also other innocent road users,” he said.

May God Almighty console the family left behind. Drivers be speeding as if where they are going is running away or disappear. Let's take life easy guys for nothing, no matter what we are going with to the grave!

The way some drivers move in Lagos even with the speed limits is discouraging of any hope of sanity. Even if the system works, the people usually fail.

Truth is that we are all mad in this country....
We tend to blame the government for everything.
There is an over-head pedestrian bridge there, but people would prefer a shorter and dangerous route by crossing the high risk roads.

Driving on lagos roads you have to drive for yourself and others.

You'll be looking everywhere for cars bikes keke even korope buses sneaking into tight spaces besides you.

Pedestrians are another issue. Worse at traffic lights they'll be there at a red light talking, and try to cross when it turns green. Very shocking thing to experience.
