Politically speaking, it’s clear he wants to silence the clerics — to stop them from calling out the failures of poor political leadership. But on the flip side, there's an objective benefit: it could help the government expose fraudsters and scammers who hide behind religion to exploit people. Just last week, a so-called man of God publicly declared that Opay loans are “from Hell fire.” Imagine that — a multi-millionaire preacher, someone who could easily offer interest-free loans to his own church members, yet he chooses not to. Instead, he condemns platforms that are actually helping the average person get by. The irony is wild. |

So the Christian preacher must face panel headed by a Muslim Director-General of religious affairs in Niger State to get a license to preach?. If a Christian-majority State should introduce same rules, you'll see Muslims condemning left, right and centre. They want to suppress Christianity and other religious faiths by all means but it won't work. |

guywitzerogal:Religion has always been the opium of the people,it determines the socialisation patterns of so many people.... Many of these clerics who are the gate keepers and moral entrepreneurs are often times the compass used to navigate their lives by their adherents......you do not allow such influence be used dysfunctionally......there are many of them that have grossly deviated from the message and are only propagating their own philosophies. |

owobokiri:Then let them monitor them, it's just a stupid and senseless idea Cos this is also saying all social media post should be reviewed by government before we post cos some people are posting anti people and anti government Anything they don't like, whether right or wrong will be teared down |

fergie001:This is clearly the result of too much consumption of marijuana by some of the Nigerian politicians because if not, how can such a statement or order be given in a lawful society? What instead should be done is making any erring preacher pay for his or her sin in the proper court of law and not this nonsensical charade Mr Gov is showcasing |

Damn this foolish governor that fail to understand that the unity of Nigeria is hung upon freedom to religious right. You want to review the word of God that is the only hope to a poor man and fail to tell inec to review election drama before announcing the winner, if the people accept it so be it. |

wiseone28:It is good because it is not affecting you directly. Soon they will ask you to tell them or give the government prior notice before you have s*x with your wife. In as much some preacher preaches hate what is wrong is wrong. U can't ask them to be submitting their messages. For me it's totally not okay. If we permit soon it will reach all of us. |

Lithiumite:You're not so smart, why do Saudi Arabia and UAE still need US protection if it was a noble policy?!. Why is there ban on the church in Saudi Arabia, why's there no single church in Saudi Arabia?!. Nigeria is a secular state and no government can control religion. We've had it during the barbaric era and this is the era of civilization and we will never allow such thing as state controlling the church. You can go to your Saudi Arabia, UAE and Iran if you want to be ruled by ISLAMISTS. |

Dogalmighty17:Seems you don understand the influence preachers have on their followers, what they teach to their follower right, they shouldn't use their opportunity to spread hate, create religious extremist and other things. It's good to know what they preach except the governor has another motive. |

smokinloud:Where did the gov mention that the policy was for only churches.....you people always twist narratives based on your myopic reasoning......Niger state ha a bigger problem with Islamic associated fundamentalism than xtianity but that goes without saying that people have been indoctrinated from places if worship to go kill their fellow citizens......you dear not preach radical islam in Saudi Arabia or UAE why should it b different hear. |

''overnor Umar Bago of Niger State has said it is mandatory for preachers to submit their sermons for approval. Speaking on TVC’s Politics on Sunday, the governor clarified some aspects of the law seeking to regulate preaching in the state. “I didn’t ban evangelism… For everyone going to sermon on Friday, he should bring his scriptures for review, and it’s normal. Even in Saudi Arabia, this is done. We cannot say because you have been given the opportunity to be a cleric, you will go out and preach the gospel that is anti-people, anti-government and you think it’s normal.” Asked if it was out of fear of indoctrination, the governor said, “It’s in that direction. We want to be able to see what they are preaching, hear what they are saying. We are working together with security agencies; the Department of State Services (DSS), the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the military.” THE INTENTION MAY BE GOOD, BUT THE MODUS OPERANDI IS SURELY FAULTY. PUBLIC PREACHING, LIKE THE PRINT AND ELECTRONIC MEDIA USE, IS AN AVENUE TO PROPAGATE IDEAS AND VALUES, WHICH UNFORTUNATELY, HAS BEEN USED TO SOW BAD SEEDS FOR THE DETRUCTION OF THE CORPORATE PEACE. HOWEVER, I HOLD THAT ANY SOCIETY IS DOOMED WHEN POLITICIANS START TO VET THE WORDS OF FAITH FOR ANY REASON. TO AVOID VIOLATION OF THE RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND AT THE SAME TIME DEFEND THE PUBLIC PEACE, THE BEST WAY TO GO IS TO PROSECUTE, WITH HEAVY DETERRENCE, ANYONE WHO PREACHES HATE. BY THE WAY, CAN THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT AT ALL LEVELS CLAIM IGNORANCE OF THE IDENTITY AND LOCATION OF THE AGENTS OF VIOLENCE AND THEIR SPONSORS? WHY ARE THE VIOLENT PEOPLE REWARDED AND THEIR VICTIMS ABANDONED? DOES THE GOVERNMENT REALISE THAT THE NIGERIAN SYSTEMIC CORRUPTION IS AN ACTIVE CONVEYOR OF THE OBVIOUS SOCIO-ECONOMIC VIOLENCE THAT BIRTHS OTHER FORMS OF VIOLENCE? ARE THE LEADERS NOT THE PRACTITIONERS AND DEFENDERS OF THE OBNOXIOUS SYSTEM? HYPOCRACY IN GOVERNANCE IS THE NORM IN NIGERIA, AND THE EARLIER IT IS ABANDONED, THE BETTER. |

When I talk some people just think am just talking nonsense or in vain. A governor just agreed with the truth I talked about below. Thank you JESUS! The truth is when a country is full of religious hypocrisies, unrest is what happens. A State/country that rejects the truth will have itself burnt. You can't be raising TERROR islamic children and expect peace at HOME.
