The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has placed new restrictions on campus social events, barring all gatherings from continuing beyond 6 p.m., following the killing of a guest at a student-organized program.

The decision was announced in a statement issued by the Acting Public Relations Officer, Mr. Inya Egwu, who said the directive was aimed at strengthening security and preventing similar tragedies.

The move comes after the death of businessman Chiebonam Nweze, popularly known as Power-Autos, who was fatally stabbed on September 12 during a bonfire night organized by the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies.

According to the university, the event, initially intended as a harmless student celebration, was infiltrated by miscreants from a nearby community who sparked violence, resulting in the deadly incident.

“In light of what happened, management has directed that all social events on campus must now take place only in the daytime, under the supervision of the University Security Unit,” the statement read.

“No event of this nature will be allowed to continue past 6:00 p.m. on any of our campuses.”

The university described the stabbing as “tragic and avoidable,” while assuring students, staff, and the public that it is committed to creating a safer environment for academic and social life.

When you know someone was just killed are you needed to be told to stay at home?

Any gathering of teenagers outside religion platform, be expecting fight at end, if such gathering involved male and female, in which it would end after 7 pm or late, stabbing and killings are imminent.

Some students are stubborn, if anything happens they will blame the school. So the school needs to make a declaration, in order to show proactivity.

Yes bro. I was in year one staying in Akpabio hall back then but left campus before afternoon for Enugu. Then I started hearing how Nsukka was on fire. Abeg what led to that bloodshed and killings sef - Cultism?

Nothing will take me to a university for any reason. Children under the age of 26 are impulsive and quick to react with violence. A small number never outgrow the habit. On average, many do. If I decide to get a sugar baby, na commercial hotels and my room things go take place. I can’t go and risk a child taking my life.
