One of several innumerable lies concocted by Biafra propagandists and revisionists is that the then head of the Nigerian army, Ironsi had written a security brief to the PM that there was an impending coup plot on the way.

This is of course meant to exonerate Ironsi from complicity in the coup and divert attention from Zik and his Enugu Marxist clique from plotting to overthrow the govt.

The narrative then follows their usual path of deceit by claiming the coup plotters had wanted to install Awo instead.

So to them manufacturing this pure and outright outlandish lie that Ironsi as the then head of the army had warned Tafa Balewa of an impending coup will some how exonerate Enugu from the ethnocentric coup.

Now , what will Tafa, a civilian who before delving into politics was a Teacher do with such information?

Isn't it now up to Ironsi to sanitize his army of mutineers ?

Or is it Tafa ,a teacher and civilian that will come and clean Ironsi's army for him?

The truth is that the Police Espionage branch had written to the PM and Azikiwe of an impending coup in the making.

Tafa sent the report to Ironsi to respond to the Intel but no correspondence ever came back from Ironsi, instead the set date foor the coup was moved forward by the coup plotters.

The Police had informed Ironsi of a planned coup 2 weeks before it happened and had asked ironsi to arrest Maj ifeajuna the coup leader,Nzeogwu, Onwuategwu and 2 other officers who turned out to be among the leaders

Not only did Ironsi do nothing but he even put PM Balewa's (who was also informed) mind to rest that there was nothing to be concerned about

On what capacity was Awolowo planned the coup?

Are you sure you read the book or did you read it upside down as ifeajuna motive was to make awolowo prime minister. Awolowo should have quietly accepted his fate than disrupting the country and hanging it on the head of the young officers. It wasn’t statemanly at destroying ones own country

Deveropers and barefaced lies. So, Awo planned a coup from prison, ordered the military and civilian leaders from other regions to be killed, and those of igbos to be spared? A coup was planned, and the head of te military was never part of the people to be neutralized? Read the report by the Special Branch, and put 2 and 2 together.
