Hello house and Volvo XC90 fellas, I want to convert my Volvo XC90 V6 to 5 plugs. What are your advice and do I need to change the transmission too?

Sell the V6 and buy V5 for peace of mind

And what do you intend to achieve with this?

Thanks. I have been having issues with the V6 engine as per servicing issues, but was advised the V5 is better compared to V6.

It consumes more engine oil or what?

No sir. It gets to a point it drop efficiency and issues like heating or temperatures can upset it's work and could lead to knock.

The cost of the swap may be far cheaper than fixing whatever is wrong with your v6. If it's overheating problems, why not fix the overheating issues?

Thank you sir. I have had experience of the temperature issues repeatedly messing up with the another engine, this is the second engine(replaced in 2021 tho) that this issue is happening to.
My question however, is would the swap to V5 require changing of the gear too?

I'm not a mind reader or psychic too, no way i can tell what year his car is and what engine spec they're trying to switch him to

That said, the 2004/05 2.9l 6cyl engine were very problematic and unreliable so its become quite popular around here to swap out the engine, gear and wiring to that of 2005/06 2.5l cyl . Engine, gear, complete ECU and wiring, lower engine beam, shafts and engine mounts will be swapped in. Every other thing on both vehicles are the same. I suspect this is what is likely going on here

It will be 5plugs

First, you need to go research the difference between a V engine and a straight engine so you don't keep misleading people.

Volvo does not have a V6 or V5 engine. It is i6 & i5.

Now that i6 engine is in 3 variants, the 3.2ltr NA, the 2.9ltr twin turbo, and the 3.0ltr turbo.

The i6 engine that many people like you ignorantly use to assume all the Volvo i6 engine are terrible is the 2.9ltr twin turbo which can only be found in the 1st gen xc90s & s80s

Of all Volvo engines, the most reliable are the V8, 3.2ltr i6, 3.0l i6, and the i5s
