The first petrol shipment exported from the Dangote refinery to the United States (US) has reached the country.

Sources at the refinery told TheCable that the “vessel left the refinery to US about two weeks ago”.

According to MyShipTracking, a vessel tracking site, the shipment aboard the vessel, named Gemini Pearls, arrived in New York on Monday, citing the vessel’s automatic identification system (AIS).

On Tuesday, Reuters first reported that Vitol, international oil trader and Sunoco, North American fuel distributor, took delivery of the first US import of petrol from the refinery.

Reuters said the shipment, carried aboard the tanker Gemini Pearl, was discharged on Monday at Sunoco’s Linden terminal in New York Harbor.

According to the report, Vitol purchased Gemini Pearl’s cargo of about 320,000 barrels of petrol from Mocoh Oil, Switzerland-based company — selling most of it to Sunoco.

However, the publication noted that it was not immediately clear “what volume Vitol sold to Sunoco and how much it will keep”.

Reuters said a second shipment of petrol from the Dangote refinery to the US was sold by Glencore to Shell aboard the vessel ‘MH Daisen,’ which is expected to arrive in the New York Harbor area around September 19.

The publication said a third cargo, purchased by Vitol from Mocoh, is being transported on the vessel ‘Seaexplorer,’ and is scheduled to reach the New York Harbor area around September 22.

Long overdue.

At least he tried where multiple government has failed.

Kudos to him.

The biggest enemy to Nigerians is the Nigerian government (both previous and current).

How man go get wife and an outsider go dey bang am. After the outsider is done, the man go come pay the outsider to bang his own wife. this is the short story of Nigeria. Hopefully, things will change...

You all know the United States would never allow substandard PMS into their country. We have to commend Dangote; this might just be the biggest refined product Nigeria will be exporting. Correct me if I’m wrong.

That said, when will NNPCL begin exporting to our neighbors in Benin Republic?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaatasha!

Exporting fuel to a country like the USA is a big achievement. But why are oil marketers in the country,NNPC and the government ( indirectly ) trying to sabotage him?
Re: Dangote Refinery Exports First Petrol Cargo To US by Mide70: 5:18pm On Sep 17, 2025

Re: Dangote Refinery Exports First Petrol Cargo To US by Akamon(m): 5:21pm On Sep 17, 2025
Kudos to Dangote.
This is the only way to industrialize Nigeria, the government needs to seize the opportunity to galvanize the elites especially those who looted the nation's economy by giving them corruption amnesty for them to fund critical sectors that will boost the nation's economy and increase revenue for the investors and the government.
We need Investment in cargo and human train station lines transversing the length and breadth of Nigeria, connecting Nigeria to all it's neighbouring countries. Investment in industries that will embrance value addition of Local agricultural produce maint for Nigeria and west African states consumption.
Investment in car manufacting targeting conquering West Africa.

Dangote Refinery Products Inferior To Imported Ones; Nigeria Can't Rely On Them Alone To Avoid Monopoly – Nigerian Agency, NMDPRA

Farouk Ahmed, the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has cautioned Nigerians against over-dependence on products from the Dangote refinery.

Ahmed highlighted concerns over the consistency and standardisation of the refinery's output, stating that the quality of its products was inferior compared to the imported quality products.

He addressed concerns about the nationwide supply of petroleum products and denied claims by some media outlets that they were trying to scuttle the Dangote Refinery.

He said Dangote Refinery was still in the pre-commissioning stage and had not been licensed yet. "We haven't been licensed yet," he added.

"I think we have about 45% completion. We cannot rely heavily on one refinery to feed the nation because Dangote is requesting that we suspend or stop imports, especially of AGO and DPK, and direct all marketers to his refinery.

"That is not good for the nation in terms of energy security, and it is not good for the market because of the monopoly.

Ahmed said that in terms of quality, Dangote's current AGO suffers from the lowest quality in terms of sulfur content, falling short of West Africa's requirement of 50 PPM.

"Dangote Refinery, along with other major refineries, produces between six hundred and fifty to one thousand two hundred parts per million (PPM). Therefore, in terms of quality, their products are inferior to imported ones," he said.

Imagine some woke and educated people on nairaland and in Nigeria at large still want the downfall of this enigma because of their alleged "monopolistic" nature of his business like he held their families down from producing the same products!

The world is changing in our very eyes. The past leaders believe it's not possible for us to export refined oil to US and then Tinubu provided the free trade zone which Dangote acquired part of it for his refinery and Buhari"s administration somehow gave license to individual to refine petrol. APC hasn't been a saint but it's still better than PDP by miles.

And the sense that you get only works in one negative direction. Your sense only function when you are listing imported products but shutdown when you need to list exported products right?
Our Quarter 2 balance of trade was POSITIVE (+) if you get enough sense to understand what that implies.

What the wobbling, fumbling, goofy, third class succeeding Nigerian governments could not do in about 3 decades, you've done it.

Na man you be.

Well done.

Na so so lamba we dey get from the APC's refinery.

Few months ago, the news channels were awash with reports of PH refinery beginning operations. Las Las, na samba.

Nigeria Air also brought an Ethiopian Airline plane to lamba Nigerians.

This really marks a turning point in Nigeria’s petroleum space. Dangote isn’t just cutting prices — he’s reshaping control of the supply chain. NUPENG’s concerns are valid, but he can’t be held hostage. He understands the terrain, and his strategy as a private businessman is intentional and far-reaching.

Lol, as usual, time for paid party agents to start laying claims to the achievements of Dangote as the enabling factor.

The problem of oil cabal who still don't want to team up to build a refinery, is just that they are use to free money which they have scammed the country over the years through subsidy. I blame the president for not supporting Dangote hundred percent. How many years did he take Dangote to build his refinery that even government cant do all this while. I won't talk about Obj and buhari but Jonathan really goofed cos south south host most of the oil well and he couldn't build one brand new refinery even if is situated in bayelsea. Nobody cares as long has there is working refinery. Since 1999, it just shows all the president deliberately didn't build a refinery because they are huge beneficiaries.
