This is Myrtle Avenue on the landing approach to Hearthrow Airport in London. It is a normal site for those who lived there. Meanwhile: Check this thread to further appreciate the gracefulness of the A380. Meanwhile below is the sleeky elegant speedbird and wonder of modern aviation - the legendary Concorde landing @ the dangerous Kai Tak Airport where aircrafts have to make a tight sharp turn passing through residential buildings in the final approach to land. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1s7Q-Z2PGQw?si=mvkIkS_IxHIJD8QC |

One little mistake from the pilot and it becomes a different story entirely. Or imagine if the pilot is suffering heartbreak and is distracted |

Racoon:Gliding over residential building is very dangerous and disastrous. Where are the authorities to ban this dangerous move before a calamity strike... |

The Airbus A380. No Airport in Nigeria can accommodate that plane. A plane that can accommodate more than 800 passengers at once. NIGERIA is far behind |
| Re: "Too Close For Comfort;" Airbus A380 Gracefully Glides Above Houses. by Dogalmighty17: 6:26pm On Sep 17, 2025 |
Kingray10:No airport in West Africa can accommodate that plane. Get your facts right. Possibly, the Nigerian Airforce Tactical Air Command based in Makurdi, which has the longest runway in West Africa, might. But the tarmac of that runway is not rated to handle something this heavy. |

Too close for comfort and too scary. Not bad experience however |

Dogalmighty17:You are right no Airport in Nigeria can at the moment. But the new lekki Airport might. |

I don't think we have many Airports in Nigeria that can land that A380, the wings are just too big to land in some airports. |

The Airbus A380 is a majestically beautiful piece of engineering & marvel to behold. Its underbelly looks like one giant grasshopper just lounging on lush green grass. Meanwhile, it's my view that after electricity & telephone, the next best invention ever by humans, is the aeroplane! |

No. North American airlines uses A380 for some reasons but they have their own equivalent of boeing that can match up this aircraft |

Mexyz:You're right. However, I understand that the Gateway International Airport, Ogun State is probably the only airport in Nigeria with capacity to accommodate the A380. Meanwhile, in Africa, only the airports in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Dakar, Egypt and Mauritius can accommodate an aircraft the size of the A380. ***Modified*** The Gateway International Airport is actually the only airport in Nigeria designed to accommodate large, wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777 and Airbus A380. With an extensive runway measuring 4 kilometers (4,000 meters) long and 60 meters wide (said to be the longest runway in West Africa), the airport meets category 9 fire cover standards, equipped with advanced lighting, navigation systems & has a substantial apron area (this particular feature - among others - was & is still lacking in the newly remodelled international wing of the MMIA which was why many international airlines boycotted the terminal) - an important factor for airports that want to host large aircraft. |

My fav aircraft. I've boarded it to Los Angeles once and Paris from DXB. The roof design is like earthly paradise. You'd forget you're in the air once you take off with those beautiful star designs on the roof. Amazing! |

The plane is not being navigated by sight. That thing is utilising GPS and multiple sensors from air traffic control as well as the internal computers. In addition, it's not as close as it seems. That being said, I went to Johannesburg and stayed at a guest house in Kempton Park, just across the highway from OR Tambo International Airport. I can't do it on a permanent basis. The jumbo jets don't stop. Ha! Those who live by airports have nerves of steel. |
