NURSS HAILS PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU GCFR, AS HE RESTORES DEMOCRATIC RULE IN RIVERS STATE THROUGH THE RETURN OF GOVERNOR SIMINALAYI FUBARA GSSRS & HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY MEMBERS.

National Union of Rivers State students National Secretariat has welcomed the return of democratic rule in Rivers State through the return of executive and legislative arms of government today the 18th day of September 2025.

You will recall that months back, a lot of political drama was seen within the political environment in Rivers State which brought in temporary stay of democratic rule in Rivers State through the president of the country with a view to maintaining peace and order in the state. While we accept the statement that, "Desperate Situation, requires desperate measures", the NURSS National Secretariat focuses on current day reality of the return of democratic rule through the governor and house of assembly members whom we voted to bring in democratic gains to their people.

In accepting the political realities, we extend our heart felt gratitude to the political leaders in the state, students, traditional rulers and electorates for their peaceful dispositions during the period of the state of emergency, hence we expect togetherness and inclusivity of not only remembering to capture the welfare of Rivers State students but to reactivate the Rivers of our dreams.

Again, this is not a time for open blame games of political show but rather a time to move the state forward through the executive and legislature by initiating projects and empowerments that will speak in the positive interest of not only to the beneficiaries but for the entire interest of Rivers State. As a matter of urgency, Rivers State students call on the governor of Rivers State and the state assembly to urgently look into "High cost of rents and agency fee" imposed on tenants and intending and those already living in the state.

Once more, we extend our gratitude to former governor of Rivers State and the FCT minister Chief Barr Nyesom Wike for the steps taken for peace and democracy to return in Rivers State. Indeed, it is and should continually be "Rivers First".

Welcome back our dear governor.

Like play like play, I created the thread above just 3 hours before president Tinubu declared the state of emergency in Rivers state

The purpose of the SOE have been achieved . There is peace across River state. They even has LG election with very low attacks or killing.

The purpose of the SOE have been achieved . There is peace across River state. They even has LG election with very low attacks or killing.

The LG election held by Fubara was also peaceful.

This SOE is currently being replicated across democratic institutions in Nigeria like Pengassan in the name of bringing peace.

Once a vote of no confidence is passed against a Branch chairman loyal to Osifo, the next thing he does is to dissolve the entire Branch Excos, establish a caretaker committee, suspend those who oppose his candidate, set aside the byelaws, and ultimately reinstating his preferred candidate through less conventional means.

Tinubu has set Nigeria's fragile democracy backwards with this move.

Tinubu has successfully set a bad precedence. This means, in the future, the president can easily suspend any governor even when there is no trace of violence in his state. If you sue the president, the attorney general will quote what Tinubu did in Rivers State in 2025.
