Gowon and Awolowo killed regionalism for good. If you're mentioning regions because of Lagos, Lagos will be in West West as it has been before independence Brenbentondiaz: |

It has to be state police! Regionalism is dead and buried. Gowon, supported by Awolowo killed Regionalism for ever helinues: |

jpphilips:This write up is filled with inaccuracies and conjectures. 1) There was no organisation called Northern Authority Police (NAP) or WNRAP in the First Republic. 2) There were Native Authority (NA) Police and they weren't carrying arms but only used battons (kendo/Opa). The local names for Police in many parts of Nigeria has connections with this instrument e.g Olopa (The one with stick) in the South. 3) Only few officers (not the rank and files) of the Federal Police carried arms before ,1966. The insinuation, that the program in the North were carried out by Northern Police is a blatant lie. 4) Every State has the God-given right to protect their people and secure their properties. 5) There are already elements of State Police in Nigeria e.g LATSMA in Lagos , OYES in Osun, HISBAH in Kano etc |

helinues:The State Police does NOT mean abrogation of Federal Police. Has State Governors abused Amotekun or LASTMA? |

Smartcitizen:All over most of the world, Policing is a local affairs. Immunity of State Governors have nothing to do with State Police. State Police don't have absolute powers,as you guys are assuming. It is NOT compulsory, for all States to have State Police. States that don't want State Police can still rely solely on Federal Police. |
| Re: State Police, The Dream Of The Visionless And The Ignorant by oyatz(m): 12:26am On Sep 19, 2025 |
nairalanda1:It is NOT compulsory for all States to have States POLICE and even if they have State Police, it may just be dispatched to certain areas as a SPECIAL SECURITY outfit to argument the effort of the Federal Police, without necessarily been in all parts of the State ,all the time |

jpphilips:You haven't proved anything wrong with State Police apart from the unfounded fear that non indigenes will not get Justice from it. State Police can't detain anyone beyond 48hrs and if one is not satisfied, he can appeal the handling of the case to Federal Police. How do non-indigenes, get Justice from State Judiciary? |

jpphilips:Military Coup of Jan-15,1966 with tribal colouration led to the civil war, not State Police. You can advise your State Governments, not to participate but other States, that want it should get it. |

jpphilips:Lawyers and courts don finish for Nigeria Abi you think say state police will mean no more Federal laws in the states Or no more Federal high court? A Yoruba trader in Enugu will simply go to a federal court that will protect them You no get any point Shouldn't igboland be the ones championing this cause cos of the insecurity in the region? Oh I've forgotten they don't believe there's insecurity in the east, they all believe it's the FG that's creating insecurity even though it's Son Ekpa and Nnamdi kanu that's directing their lives from prison |

oyatz:All of a sudden we have gone from state police that is statewide to 'special force to augument the federal police' You state police people should make up your mind, what is it you want? As for me, most, if not all states cannot fund a state police. I am not attacking your positions or saying that you are so wrong, I am just stating a fact. To maintain a state police, most states are going to have to tax the citizens of the state that are not taxed...and most of you guys don't like that. I mean, look at Zamfara....even if we use your idea....the state police still has to be well equipped....because bandits and firepower....and at the end of the day, where are we gonna get the money? From a state that is as broke as 34 of the 36 states? From a federal government whose federal police use ancient guns and weaponry because funding issues ? Even our federal police, government has issues funding it properly, ya think there will be money enough for state police? Let's face reality o. State police on paper is a good idea, but in the Nigerian setting, where we all rely on limited money from oil, and where most states don't want to do proper igr, it's basically unrealistic. Unless you want guys in khaki shorts and shirts wielding sticks and batons like the old NA Police. |

nairalanda1:States that afford State Police should have it. Even now, are the current FG Police everywhere? The answer is CAPITAL NO. There are many States in Nigeria that Police Stations are NOT available in rural areas. The FG maintain a special Road Police called FRSC, are they everywhere? |

oyatz:With what is happening in the local government election supervised by the state electoral body appointed by the governor and you are still making this comment in support of giving states police with governors immunity, I strongly believe that it's either you are not in Nigeria or you have problem with understanding the environment you are living in. How can a Nigerian reason like this, after what politicians has exhibited for the past 25 years of return of democracy in Nigeria? Waoooo! It's unbelievable to believe you are in Nigeria. 🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱 |

oyatz:If we carry your plan to fruition, only Lagos can afford state police. Barely. Most states can't . Make we no lie to ourselves. |

nairalanda1:Why crying more than the bereaved? Let the States that can't afford it reject it. States can afford State Universities, Hospitals, High courts etc but can't afford State Police? Even private residents form vigilantes to secure their Estates ,which on many occasions prevent thefts. |

oyatz:Well, you do have an active imagination, old boy. Let the States that can't afford it reject it.Which means about 34 states can't afford it, and i wonder why that fact makes you so angry? States can afford State Universities, Hospitals, High courts etc but can't afford State Police? Even private residents form vigilantes to secure their Estates ,which on many occasions prevent thefts. The same state universities that are mostly subpar, poorly funded, and cannot afford to raise salaries. The hospitals that are for the most part poorly equipped and have no advanced equipment, and that many nigerians are running away from if they can afford to do so? And is vigilante as strong as police.? LOL. Give it up. |

Constitutional ammendments requires concurrennce from 2/3 of the states houses of assemblies. Almost all the givernors are aligned so what is the challenge? Your excuse is not valid oyatz: |

nairalanda1:For arguments sake and it is not like your opinion will count. you can just gnash your teeth here on nl as part of the constitutional freedom of speech. Go and hold your state government responsible, the tax law makes adequate provision for more funds. Federal government has seceded more funds to your state government, instead of you-all to police and elect better leadership and put pressure on them, you are fixated on other things. South West already has a regional police. North has a regional police. Go and hold state and regional government responsible, that will be much easier than praying for progressive policies to stop. |

oyatz:I am not obligated to prove anything to anyone who struggles to understand the basis of a discourse. This was a national debate held at Aburi, mediated by the Ghanaian HOS at the time. Facts were presented by both sides and a resolution was reached, a solution that has worked for 60years, if you want to change it, common sense dictates you should try something different from what took you to Aburi in the first place, stop thinking like a Nigerian politician. Use your own head because in the end, the politician will serve out his term and leave, while you become the victim. |
