its a fact. lagos had always been a 95% UPN/AD state. There was no opposition, so no need for political thuggery. I am old enough to know the flash points for politics in yoruba land. They were Ibadan, Akure, Ekiti. Those were the only places where political thuggery existed and it always because the yoruba states were always in opposition to National party that a yoruba politician from the national party (Akintola in 1960s, Omoboriowo in 1983, OBJ in 2003) attempted to use federal might and thugs to to capture those places against the will of the people. The means of engagement was the same in 1965 as it was in 1983 and 2003.

The determination of Obasanjo and the PDP to take over the SW is what introfuced political thuggery to places in the Sw that had never experienced it. Places like Ife, lagos, ogun state etc. One of the men behind the thuggery in lagos is an old man in PDP his name starts with "B" the thugs they armed in 2003 are the thugs of today, just like the thugs they armed in Borno and abandoned after elections became Boko Haram .

many heembeciles have commented on my post about thuggery. Mostly from people who clearly arrived lagos recently as refugees on a nightbus. My signature articulates how i approach people on nairaland going forward. you can disagree with me and I welcome constructive disagreements and intellectual engagements but i dont respond to unintelligent abusive people. I have blocked all of them.


To those sensible or genuinely curious nairalanders. Common sense will dictate to those who have that you dont need thugs in a state where you are in total control. Prior to 1999 lagos elections were won by 80-90%. It is always when the opposition wants to take over a state against the will of the people backed with the confidence of federal might that introduces thugs. What do you need thugs for in a state you control overwhemingly? Again same scenario in ibadan in 1965, 1983 in Ondo state (ekiti and Akure were part of Ondo state then) 2003 is when political violence entered Ogun and Osun states. These were safe AG, UPN, AD states, States that are won with 80-90% votes.

NuRTW has existed from the dawn of time. I challenge anyone to produce any incident of political thuggery in Lagos by NURTW or anyone prior to 2003. So what happenned in 2003? I have told you. PDP wanted to take over lagos by fire by force. A certain old man in PDP was the anchor behind the mission, they armed (I mean guns) a lot of street thugs and in reponse AD alligned with the state chapter of NURTW. Remember that Atiku had warned Tinubu about the mission. Tinubu turned to NurtW for protection and that is why NURTW do anyhow today and are untouchable. That was how NURTW became a factor in Lagos politics.
