Nigerian Girl Breaks Down In Tears After Her UK Student Visa Was Terminåted by ThroneNGamez(op): 9:12am On Sep 20, 2025
Nigerian girl breaks down in tears after her UK student visa was terminåted for exceeding the 20-hour work limit. She has now been ordered to leave the country immediately. According to reports, she took up extra work after losing her father in 2023, who had been her main sponsor🥹🥲

The post describes a Nigerian student's emotional breakdown after her UK student visa was terminated for exceeding the 20-hour work limit, a rule enforced by the UK Home Office to prevent exploitation and ensure compliance with immigration laws. This incident highlights the stringent enforcement of visa conditions, which can lead to immediate deportation, as seen in recent crackdowns reported by Businessday NG in October 2023.

The student's situation worsened after losing her father in 2023, who was her main sponsor, forcing her to take on additional work to support herself. This backstory adds a layer of personal tragedy, illustrating how life circumstances can intersect with immigration policies, often with severe consequences, as noted in the UK government's immigration white paper of May 2025 aiming to reduce immigration by tightening settlement rules.

The event underscores broader systemic issues, such as the employment crisis in some European countries leading to stricter visa enforcement, as mentioned by user Chuks in the thread. This shift reflects a policy change where previously lenient enforcement has tightened, affecting international students, particularly from Nigeria, who form a significant portion of the UK student population, with a 73% increase in sponsored study visas as reported in 2023.

I watched her video on fb and i sympathised with her, if her explanation is anything to go by then its really sad.

She needs to appeal the decision and given a chance to appear in front of immigration tribunal for a good chance to stay and finish her degree

I can only join other Nigerians to pray for her. As someone without a passport, I still don't know how Nigerians are coping in the UK.

The news coming from there always is always disturbing. I was on a space of Nigerians in the UK few days ago and I'm just praying for them... How are they managing paying thousands of pounds for papers all the time.

Sincerely I really wish Nigeria National orientation agency will start speaking up... Many Nigerians are fine living in Nigeria but because of online noise about abroad some will resign from government jobs, abandoned flourishing business only to arrive abroad and start developing high blood pressure over bills.

Just last week i heard a gist of a man who sold two buildings just to travel to the US, he has been booted out now and don't know how to start again... Abroad is good with testimonies but I think its not for everyone.

I feel bad for her. Three years wasted.
She should appeal.

It would have been better if she had informed the Home Office she lost her Dad and would like to add extra hours.
It's too late now

We are the ones that praise these countries for having working systems but will also be the first to expect them to circumvent their system for our own selfish interests. Now I used "selfish interest" not to be inconsiderate but because that's the appropriate term to use.

First question, did she notify the relevant authorities when her dad passed away? And did she even list her dad as her sponsor initially because if she didn't, his death his meaningless to her stay except she wants to take leave to travel down for his burial.

Secondly, is she doing her 1st degree or Msc because I don't think Msc lasts for 3 years. I may be wrong. If her program is still on, I don't think the UK would have arrived at the decision.

I may be wrong though.

Yes you are, she is doing her first degree.

The way the law works on paper is not the same way it works in court room because laws are made for interpretation. Her personal circumstances may favour her case if taken to immigration tribunal.

I'm not for one minute supporting law breaking, however when its not intentional the law maybe lenient

That's the reason I asked the first question... If her father was listed as her sponsor and if she notified the school and/or immigration services of his passing, then maybe she has a chance.

Forget about law on paper and it's interpretation. Western laws work with paper trails. If all you have is your word of mouth and emotions when things backfired without following the appropriate channels when you should have, no one can help you. The best they can do is see if they can help her convert her classes to remote so she can still graduate from Nigeria but her staying in the UK? The chances are very very slim.

Why are we applying for their visas then? Why do you really need to be in the UK and not US, Germany, France etc?

Constantly over working is not something you do by mistake but terminating her visa half way is just too harsh...she is working towards graduating with a 1stt class degree according to her video.

If she appeals the decision they are likely to allow her enough time to finish her degree and leave the UK.

She should appeal to the local MP and make sure local papers and networks pick it up. Likely she will be allowed to finish her degree on compassionate grounds.

I would be 90% certain of this were it not for the anti immigrant campaign by Farage's Reform Party and that Robinson chap!

We dont know all the facts though because there is also a quota of classes that must be attended.

When you submitted your study visa application your provided evidence of proof of funds. If you are not from a rich home stop playing with fire in the name of student visa. Degrees that may not even secure you any meaningful job
