A Nigerian lady has triggered heated discussions online after sharing a controversial video where she bluntly stated that people who cannot provide basic comfort have no business bringing children into the world.

In the clip, she argued that:

Anyone still boarding public buses with a baby strapped to their back should reconsider having children.

Couples still living with their parents should not be starting families.

Parents who struggle to pay school fees on time should not be having additional children.


She went further to say that if a child is forced to hawk or accompany parents to shops and markets in school uniform immediately after classes, then the decision to have children was already a mistake. According to her, if a couple cannot consistently afford three square meals, they should not have children at all.

The lady emphasized that her point had nothing to do with education, but with common sense and responsible planning.

Although the video was originally recorded in August, it resurfaced this weekend on Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter), where it quickly began trending and attracting a wave of reactions.

Many viewers strongly criticized her stance, describing it as insensitive and disconnected from the realities of economic hardship faced by millions. Others argued that raising a family is a fundamental right and not something that should be dictated by financial status.

The video continues to spark debate across social media, as people share conflicting opinions on whether financial stability should be a prerequisite for parenthood.

I know where she's arguing from... it's understandable!

Pushing adult responsibilities to children by forcing the children to do hard labour is very bad.

But it does not justify telling poor people not to look for an extension of their lives. I will rather tell a poor couple to consider having just one child than tell the couple to be childless. Many millionaires or billionaires of today where strapped on their mothers' back in public buses in the past.

To be childless is terrible. Who will support you in your old age? Even if you are wealthy in that old age, who can you trust with your life and your wealth more than you can trust your own child? There is a reason some barren couples adopt children.

I don't understand why she talks about people who are still living with their parents. I have never seen someone who still depends on his or her parents getting married and giving birth to children. If she is talking about unwanted pregnancies that result in people who are still under their parents giving birth to children, she should be specific.

The father should have the children we all know in any culture any nation the father has the children as the kids that is it especially when they have grown but it in case of younger ones can stay with their mother pending when they grow

Most Nigerians parent have that behaviour of having children with no plans what so ever, the notion is always " God go take care of them"

I wanted to argue with her, but looking at the environment the video was made, I had no option than to reason with her.

If we were to adopt her hypothesis, the world would have missed a lot of talents and breakthroughs.

Lakshmi Mittal - Indian Steel Tycoon
Jay Z - Named greatest rapper of all time by Billboard and Vibe

The list goes on and on...

Life is not a 1+1=2 thing like the "social media people" want to make it seem.

She is right therefore anybody in the village should not have a child.

She has a point but some can have one or two and as they grow, they acquire a car....I remember boarding a bus heading to Mile 2. At the bus stop that has Chosen HQ, a woman and her 4 kids were returning from church and boarded the bus, I was angry because she had on her back one less than 6 months and the baby wasn't comfortable.

Impeccable line of reasoning..she's right on all fronts

As bitter as it may sound, she's actually right

Why should you bring children into the world to suffer?

Why should you have children with the intention for them to take care of you? Isn't this like creating responsibilities for unborn children?

If you look at the lady, she was raised by harking on the street....she looks like she came from poor background.

But then again, this thing she is saying is just pure common sense

You might not like what she said.
But the truth is bitter.
If you cannot take care of yourself, you have no business getting married or even having children.

Make she return the blame to her parents
I know it's pitiable

If poor people birth only one child or none at all, the country will become better. Their only argument is that one out of fifty children may become a billionaire and he/she will lift the entire household out of poverty. Reality shows this is hardly the case.
