Someone is celebrating a birthday and asking people to donate to a national library. Explain why that’s wrong in simple terms:

Obi turns everything into politics. Ordinary citizens mark their birthdays by giving to motherless babies’ homes, their old schools, or other causes. But donating to a government-owned library? That’s everyone's, not something to be politicised. Obi and his supporters should be ashamed.

Well, there is nothing wrong with donating to the first lady's fund for the national library. At the end, it's quite laudable that at least she is asking for donations in lieu of gifts that she probably won't have use for.

As for the library

1.In saner climes, public libraries do have channels where you can donate.

2.Our libraries are poorly stocked...let's even forget national library....and could need some help via donations. SO far there is no provision for that, but I hope it is done

3.The idea that the government can complete the project when at the end of the day, oil prices have been too low to adequately fund the budget, before corruption...is basically a big ask. Best to face reality

4.We are all not compelled to donate to the library. I am not donating myself....for reasons I will soon outline. I also had the feeling that the first lady appeal was directed to the rich and to the elite political class. Not to the masses. (You want to curry favor with me and my husband? Oya...donate to my National library fund...don't buy me gift that in two years would be useless).

5.All in all, the reason why they ask for donations goes to show that the APC government has failed since 2015 and even now in diversifying the economy. Away from oil. That is why we are in the situation where donations are now needed to complete the library. Again, nothing wrong with donations...but the honest truth is that if we had been serious about our economy since the end of the last oil boom...we would have been using donations for maintenance.

Off topic, but one thing rich nigerians could do is set up a foundation that would build libraries in the rural areas and refugee camps. I could donate to that.

He negated himself because he's not making any sense. FG never denied allocating funds to constructing the national library, the more the available funds, the better. So the first lady tasking people to contribute to a national project that is dear to her does not change anything. It only means they'll have more funds to do more. If what she asked is not illegal and is for a good cause, what is he complaining about?

National Library has been there for ages and I don't think Tinubu that came in 2 years ago, or his wife remi, was responsible and should not be chastised for this lapses.

You see... This is what happens when you're desperate and have sycophants all around you, you don't know when to speak or keep quiet. If Bukola Saraki speaks now, it holds weight because people understand he hardly says anything so for him to speak, then that thing must be important.

Most of the gains Peter Obi made over the last few years have been eroded with his excessive intakes on the most irrelevant things. Tinubu sneezes, he has something to say about it, and it always ends up being from a political angle. Not knowing when to keep the mouth shut is the reason fishes get hooked.

Now they know how to bait him and what to bait him with, he has lost the mystery about him and that's the greatest mistake he has made.
