overall90:Because, as they said in 2006-2014, the Coastal Road is a Federal Government project. The land is a Federal Government land. The Lagos State Government also does not control what happens in other coastal states. They said, back then, that the Federal Government would build it and the FG is building it. |

As you know, I haven't fully recovered from my operation, so I have no time to argue with people that are not serious. |

I don't see the correlation between the traffic congestion in Lekki and the misplaced and out of priority coastal road ..... Is it only in Lagos State not just the whole of Lagos State but around Lekki Ajah axis that the coastal road works ![]() Then it should be a Lagos State affair not a Federal Government business....so that the money to be spent will be less , at least construction should be to ease congestion in Lagos Lekki roads not to take the construction down to Calabar when Nigeria is not anywhere near a stable economic standpoint..... O.P .....am sorry to say this, you don't have a point here at all.... Just looking for who you will manipulate and get angry this morning... |

U09ce:The East-West road in the Eastern part of Nigeria has been there for ages without completion, does that stop them from calling it "East-West road" The 2nd Niger bridge was conceived for over 30yrs. What about the Lagos -badagry road some parts were completed yrs ago before it got to the badagry end. |

Anyway, the heavy rains have started again and you'll need to consider whether you need to go out today. This has been the situation since Monday: On Monday there was a heavy traffic jam on Victoria Island and in parts of Lekki because of the Lagos State Government. The Government had announced that they were going to fix the Lekki Expressway, but that the job would be done at night. However, workmen appeared on the road on Monday morning and a carriageway was closed. It caused a massive traffic jam that affected places as far away as Ahmadu Bello Way. The workmen were removed from the road soon afterwards, but the damage had already been done. Tuesday: There was a massive rainstorm in the morning after people had already left home. Admiralty Way and the Lekki-Epe Expressway were flooded. This caused a massive traffic jam that began around Jakande and extended into VI (ignore people that are talking about Dangote, the traffic jam did not get anywhere near there). Some smart people waited until the flood had subsided and used the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge. Surprisingly the Bridge was totally free while there was a monster traffic jam on the Expressway. The traffic jam extended into Victoria Island, especially places like Eko Hotel, Akin Adesola, Muri Okunola and Ozumba Mbadiwe Road. The rain has started again this morning. |

Hello Mr Naptu, I am not understanding this ur post. Which coastal road are you talking about. Firstly, I am not for or against constructing roads or coastal roads provided it improves Nigerians movements easily. But talking about this opening or not. I was once a Bolt driver that work virtually in the vicinity of VI, Lekki and beyond. Apart from the Lekki expressway, they're other roads that one can use from VI to Elegushi and burst out to Chevron and continue with the express. So I am asking, did the construction of the coastal roads made them close those outlets. Cus it's since 2023 I left that axis. And also, what of the Ikoyi link bridge that can make one bycut the VI traffic. So I guess if people are complaining about opening the coastal road, it should be the former roads that has been there, except if those roads was damaged to accommodate the coastal. |

Tupacx:That's the catch. If the EW that is at least 70km inland has taken this long, how long would a coastal road through ultra difficult terrains take. If you know how the coastal terrains of Bayelsa and Rivers look like, you'd understand the situation better. |

naptu2:This thread seems to push an agenda. I find it interesting that you never mentioned WHY people opposed the construction of the coastal road at the time it started. Anyways, people would always love their chains. |

![]() And yet some people who know little or nothing about city planning and development will be criticising Wike for constructing roads all over Abuja. |

Someboby should tell the op that hundreds of millions of Nigerians don't live in Lagos. Secondly, in his propaganda, I didn't see him saying that drivers used the Lagos coastal road and ended up in Calabar. The major opposition to the road was the whole road, that is Lagos to Calabar. |

oz4real83:No, the opposition party in Nigeria is evil. They don’t know when to stop. Many criticized the project simply because their favorite is not in power, and some did so simply because it doesn’t pass through their states. |

NOETHNICITY:Who are the "them"? Where did the "them" go to and where are the "them" coming from? Should this coastal road be used to ease traffic congestion in all other areas of Lagos where there is traffic congestion? If traffic congestion is the reason why there must be a new coastal road from Lagos to calabar, apart from Lagos, are there any location within the Lagos calabar corridor where there is traffic congestion? |
| Re: Lekki Traffic: Lagosians Criticise Government For Not Opening The Coastal Road by Tupacx: 7:33am On Sep 24, 2025 |
U09ce:You didn't get the point.... you said it shouldn't have been named :Lago - Calabar road" just because you claimed that activities are going on only at the Lagos end and you think it will take "decades" before it gets to Calabar. Meanwhile, your reference to Bayelsa and Rivers terrain doesn't matter if there is a Political will. It's all about priority. The idea of the 2nd Niger bridge was conceived in 1979.... 36 yrs later during Buhari's regime it was done within 6yrs |

| Re: Lekki Traffic: Lagosians Criticise Government For Not Opening The Coastal Road by JuanDeDios: 7:51am On Sep 24, 2025 |
naptu2:I too was a critic of this coastal highway. But I recently travelled across the “south south”, and now I have mixed feelings. There are hardly any good roads left in the SS. Across the roads, you see fallen trailers, creating bottlenecks as road users are forced onto one lane and spend hours at a spot. In fact, everywhere, people have two words on their mouths: Dangote and Bua. They believe the roads have been spoilt by trailers. Now, here comes my on-the-one-hand… argument. If FG does not do the coastal road, it’d have more money to spend on these existing federal roads that have become unpassable – which was the argument made against the new road by many Nigerians, including me. However, many people I spoke to say – somewhat naïvely – that government should create a road for trailers. Well, maybe they can get that with the new road. The new road won’t be Trailer Road, of course, but having two roads will reduce traffic on one. This will reduce the issue of cement-laden trailers putting dead weight on the roads and spoiling them. But, again, we already have two roads (Old Road, the one built by Setraco, and New Road, the one built by Niger Cat). In most places, one was allowed to rot away, forcing all vehicles and trailers to use one and then wreck it. And now? Sisyphus is building a new road, a coastal road. Anyway, I wish Nigeria luck with its roads. |
